Whites Bikes is kind of divided into two sections. The first is loaded with high end bikes and bike accessories and apparel and the second sells second hand stuff. Both sections are worth a trawl. All the crap they have in their shop is absolute dynamite, and I can wile away hours just browsing around. What really makes T. Whites Bikes special though is the love they obviously have for cycling and the cycling community in Auckland.

Last week however, I had to get 2 spokes replaced on the rear tyre of my bike so I dropped it off at T. White's because it was close to my work. All good dropping it off and the employee was relatively helpful, but then I received a text that my bike was fixed and the cost would be $60. Insane price for 2 spokes in my opinion. I came to pick up my bike the next day and a different employee was there arguing with another customer that the shop shouldn't have to replace some component that had broken on a bike that she had recently bought. The employee first ignored me and then looked at me in an unfriendly manner as if I shouldn't be in the shop so I had to explain to him that I was there to pick up my bike. I once talked to a Galapagos tortoise at the zoo that was more personable than this guy. After paying the exorbitant price for 2 spokes I asked for the receipt which he handed to me with a nice glob of grease on it. I know this is a bike repair shop but come on, get a rag! Even though my bike is fixed, I cannot recommend this business.

Should have failed its last 2 warrents but when he looked up on the system who had issued them it was blank. Someone had purposely faked the warrent then hidden their identity.. When I asked Terry about it he made up some story about selling it for a friend. Couldn't give me the friends name or number though.

They said he was honest and reliable, and happily, that turned out to be just the case. He worked his magic on my car, the gearbox, to be specific, including things like exchanging the wiring loom, filter, gasket, and transmission fluid, and running a full diagnostic scan. Okay, okay, I copied that off the invoice, I have no idea what it means. The most important point is that I had a couple of other quotes and First Gearboxes was by far the cheapest, and my car's been going great since. It's so nice to get this blokey stuff done by a trustworthy company, and I'd recommend First Gearboxes absolutely. But that said, it is the kind of service you find yourself not really hoping to need again any time soon!

When I returned to pick up my bike it had been cleaned and rode much better than it had been. I hadn't purchased my bike from the shop, but that didn't matter and the staff were flexible with the actual day I picked it up. We already had the old frames but they needed things like new tyres, chains, handlebars and tape etc etc. I love the selection of handlebar tape/grip that they have here, while it is a little expensive they have such a wide range of colours it was so fun to choose. The staff are really great, when we needed specific products they didn't just try to sell us the most expensive option they took us through and showed us the entire range and told us what would be most suited. We have had them completed for a while now but the other day my tyre went flat and I needed a new one so I went back and they sorted out a deal for me, I bought the tyre which they fitted and they gave me a free gear tune which was really great and only cost $40 all up. I love this bike shop I will always come here for my cycling needs.
