Prepare for the worst A.I. customer service experience you will ever have AI assistant called me to confirm an appointment that I was trying to cancel and it was constantly stuck in an infinite loop of "are you still there?" IMMEDIATELY. I could not get a single piece of information about the price either. Instant cancel. Never using them ever again. Follow up: was contacted by customer service, and I notified them that a broken A.I. is an unacceptable replacement for actual service. My concern was not at all addressed but rather evaded. Naturally the CSR was still very professional, but implementing a broken system is almost a step down from a phone menu system. read more

Mickey Mouse service. Time window was 10:30-12:30. At 11:00 they call saying it'll now be 12:30-1:30. OK, I ask if that's a definite because I have appointments, they promise yes. I try to call the dispatcher back at 1:15, no answer just a message saying the number you've called hasn't set up a vm so you can't leave a message. Finally get hold of someone and they again promise the truck is on the way but by that point I don't trust them and cancel the appointment. 30 minutes later the truck guy calls saying he's on his way. He was nice and apologetic when I told him I'd already canceled...not his fault the company is useless. So if you've got 4 hours to spare waiting, then yeah...otherwise no. I already know what the company response will be, look at other 1 star reviews, it's always the same canned words. read more

Do not use this service - The workers Arnoldo and G were very capable and did a good job cleaning out, but their efforts were not worth the upcharges for 3/4 load truck ($880), recycling ($880), labor ($200). This was twice as much as Junkluggers, who just quote just one price for all their efforts for a clean out. read more

May 16 we called 1800 Got Junk last minute to remove a large amount of garbage bags, furniture and donations. The Customer Service Rep immediately assigned a team to our job that moment. He reviewed the process and made it so seamless. The Team consisted of 2 men, Ray and Tyre. They arrived promptly during our allotted time window. They did a walkthrough and provided us with the price breakdown costs. The 2 men worked so hard and carefully not to damage the home. They even swept floors to ensure the spaces looked clean afterwards. I was so impressed with their work ethic and cheerfulness. Excellent work - I highly recommend! read more

Without that fee, it only would've cost me $150 after tip- that price of course being much better which is why that's NOT what they charged me. $99 for the one futon, $200 for the "walk up building" then because of that fee, the already calculated 20% tip was 75% of the actual job cost. Shady, overly aggressive, and frankly out of line business/sales tactics. Called them originally because I had a couple of small, light-weight (under 20 lbs) pieces of furniture to remove from my new apartment and was told that they would need to see the items in person to give an accurate estimate for cost of removal. Could easily have done it myself, but being the naïve newcomer to the city, I wanted to make sure that I was disposing of these items properly. They quoted an amount that was frankly insane for the job, even by Manhattan standards ($800, which they claimed was because I lived on a fifth-floor walk-up), and when I refused, they would not take no for an answer and acted like they would refuse to leave my home if I didn't pay them to do the job (they were two people much physically larger than me). I proposed first asking my building management if there was a way I could dispose of the furniture myself without incurring any fines (since the furniture was so lightweight), and then calling them at a later time if I needed to, but they still wouldn't accept that. I showed them the NY department of sanitation website that indicated that residents could place unwanted furniture on the curb before collection day, but they still refused to let me do so and mentioned fines as a scare tactic for people not familiar with the laws. They then asked for (demanded) a five-star review before they actually did the job, which is likely why they have so many five-star reviews on Google. The way they demanded a tip, before they completed the job, was also very entitled, as if they would not complete the job properly. I had to call them 3 times after my scheduled time, they confirmed I was on the schedule, said they would be there but couldn't give me a time. i told them this was unacceptable And wanted someone to call me back. they did call me only to let me know that no one is available for the pickup because it's Sunday and it's difficult. so my question was if no one was available then why was that day and time offered to schedule? Won't ever be using this service again. Way overpriced. We could have used a moving company, and had them move the stuff to the nearest landfill, and it would've been cheaper. We also could have left all our stuff on the side of the road, and any potential fines would've been cheaper. They also showed up 3.5 hours after they were supposed to, wasted everyone's day. Do not recommend using this company due to their pricing. I was charged $1,398 for furniture removal and $400 labor fee. While speaking to others who have used this company they were not charged this much. I was also asked to write a review before I paid. I reached out to customer support to help review the charges but no feedback has been provided. Overall they did the job and did it well. I'm subtracting 1 star for 3 small issues: 1) Getting the COI wasn't a smooth process. It required multiple follow ups. 2) They did not honor the accepted time window. They were 30 minutes late after the end of the window. 3) They are pricy. Got Junk charged me triple the estimate and then dumped perfectly good furniture without making a serious effort to donate to a charity. I found this out after calling for a charitable donation receipt. Every day I called they told me I would get a receipt via email by 5 that day. After a week, they admitted to have dumped the furniture. I have no way of knowing whether the hauler kept it and/or sold it as the furniture was in top condition. read more

It was not the fault of the men who came four hours late to pick up five small items, but the fault belongs with the scheduler who sent them before my 10-12:30 window somewhere else where it was obviously a bigger pickup. When the crew arrive at a location, the amount of pickup is detailed- the crew should inform the scheduler they couldn't make a pickup of the next location and either an alternate truck or pickup time convenient to client be arranged. I received one call after 10 am saying they would be late. I called back at 1:09pm asking what happened and was told they hadn't finished the last load. They got to me at 2:09pm. This is not the service I received using 1-800-got-junk previously, I would have not used them again if that was the case. read more

Our business needed to complete another seasonal clear-out. A local carting company charged us $225 to clear out more items than this company charged us $1000 for. The items in the second haul, by a local carting company, were similar or the exact same as the items in the first haul by 1800 Junk. When I told them about 1800 Junk, they told me to get my money back!!!! I am going to the Better Business Bureau! I am writing this so that others don't make the mistake that I did. On most recent visit, was told that to add a small 3X3 wooden end table would cost an extra $285, because I "hadn't included it originally". I typically do not write negative reviews; however, I feel it is my moral obligation to alert prospective clients to 1-800-GOT-JUNK's unprofessionalism and injustice. The movers caused approximately $5,500 in damage to the restaurant beneath my apartment and have refused to accept responsibility. Initially, the company assured me that they were insured and would cover any damages. However, the general manager, Johnpaul Jason, later contacted me and stated that they are not liable, claiming that their employees reported my onsite realtor as the responsible party--my realtor claims otherwise, an assertion made without any vested interest or motive to misrepresent the facts. Currently, the financial burden for repairs rests solely with me, in addition to the $934 they charged me to remove four furniture items. After multiple attempts to seek a resolution, the company has ceased all communication, ignoring my calls, texts, and emails. I feel dismissed and ignored. Johnpaul has prioritized his employees' accounts, who are clearly hesitant to jeopardize their jobs, leaving me, the client, in a vulnerable position. read more

One star review for super shady business practices. They arrived onsite and showed me the cost sheet - $1100 for a full truck load. Told me it would be an additional $250 if it was slightly more than a full load (if they had to dump and come back), but if they could fit it all in the truck it would be $1100. Expensive, but we needed the stuff gone. They worked for about an hour with me bringing items right to the side of the truck and indeed filled it. Proceeded to charge me $1350: $1100 for the full load and an additional $250 because they claimed they "squeezed" more than a truckload onto the truck! I reminded him he said that he'd only charge the extra if they had to dump and come back but he insisted on the $1350. Total scam. These guys are to be avoided - plenty of other options in the city with better reviews. I should have looked at reviews before hiring these crooks. read more

Call center approved the switch and I got a confirmation email for an appointment slot from 9:30-11:30am. Was supposed to get a call before 9:30 to confirm what time they would show up. I had to call at 9:40am to see what was going on, only to be told they had rescheduled the appointment to Monday. I never got any email or other communication updating me to this change. To be transparent they were my second choice after their competitor (who I won't mention) disappointed me when they showed up with a quote close to double the estimated quote. With my back against the wall since my new couch was arriving the next day I called 1-800-GOT-JUNK. They sent two guys within the hour and gave me a guaranteed quote close to half the price of their competitor. They showed up on time the next morning. They were pleasant and professional and moved quickly knowing I had a couch coming any minute. Although one piece of my couch was difficult to get through my door they did it. Aggressive business model! They will never quote you an accurate price in advance, until they show up and then tack on charge after charge. They assume that you won't turn them away, once they are there with you. The people you talk to on the phone (overseas answering service) have no information about the company, they read a script and push hard to schedule someone to come to your location. I called three separate times, just to be sure, they all said the same thing, "There is NO extra charge for no-elevator buildings in NYC". First, the driver called several times to push back the meeting, they twice had to go to the dump with a full truck from previous jobs, and finally showed up 3 hours past the time window. Second, when they did show up, they said that the base amount the answering service quoted, was wrong (too low of course). Third, they said that there IS a fee for the stairs, but I could negotiate, "cash to the driver" as a tip. They suggested $100. I was planning to tip them, but not that much. Overall, the price quoted over the phone compared to the price they gave when they showed up was double. I sent them away. Now I have to be Ross & Chandler with my old sofa, "PIVOT!" read more

The New York team did a great job. The issue is the corporate offices. They are basically running a scam where they will claim they will offer a significant discount in order to get you to use their service knowing full well that most people using them need to have items removed in prepping for a time sensitive situation like moving. The New York team got here and had no idea that I was offered a discount. The corporate team did not include the discount on my account as they claimed they would and I had no choice but to use them because at this point, it was too late to change to another service. Use this company many times in the past. Recent use was awful. First mistake: did not look in the load section of the truck for items loaded in the area before arriving to my place. NOT LIKE THE COMMERCIAL!!! Made an appointment to take away a swing set, they showed up and quoted a 'maybe price' then said they didn't have the equipment and would call back with an appt. They did not. Called them again and they showed up, unprepared but with a real quote, said they'd be back to take it down the next Wednesday. Came on Wednesday and said 'oh, we didn't bring a saw (knew it was a big swing set from previous visits) we'll come back Monday.' Didn't show up Monday, didn't call. Backyard paving brick removal job. I contacted 800got junk regarding the removal of an area of backyard paving bricks about 10 x 15 feet. Two of their associates came out and told me that those many bricks would only occupy 1/4 of a truck but that they would charge me for 1/2 a truck plus two hours of labor at $100 per hour PLUS TAX but if I wanted to save money on the job, I should go get a few of those hourly workers found outside of the local big box hardware store to "lift the bricks". Mind you, the bricks were NOT attached to the ground in any way, just placed on top of sand. I think they wanted ME to hire out a few hourly workers to do the "heavy lifting" of the bricks to the truck and charge me double on the haul away. The company later sent me an email that said I had CANCELLED the estimate appointment. SHAME ON YOU 800GOT JUNK !!! read more
