Horrible. Their website might be the most useless hunk of junk on the web. Click on the 'My Credit Card' link and you see no info about your CC. No ability to add, delete or update. No ability to do anything. Click on the 'Manage my Orders'. Same thing. No ability to modify or cancel the order. After wasting time on their website I got to waste more time talking to their useless customer support team. They can't do anything either. Take your business elsewhere. I'll start with the friendliest employees, both the drivers and the clerical staff. Everything else was a nightmare. A long distance move. Selected these rats as the other service did not serve my new zip code. (Used other service before and was superb). After half filled, it rained and the pod leaked. Sent replacement next day. Filled that pod and 2 more. They picked them all up and family moved to new location. Pods were supposed to be there the next day. Nope. Called to find out they never closed the pick-up, so all pods were still 12 hours away at their origin. Then they schedule telling me it'll be TWO WEEKS before delivery. (And hold time to talk to someone was never less than an hour, up to 5 hours and averaged 3 hours). So here we are at the new residence sleeping on the floor and eating off of paper plates with plasticware. No pots and pans, nothing. Then the argument began on my "four" pods. Wait - I filled three. They insisted there were four because they included the first one that leaked. They wouldn't deliver until all four were paid for. Paid for the fourth and I'll fight that battle later. Just get me my stuff. OK, 13 days later I get the first pod. By the time all (three) pods were delivered and emptied, a month had passed so I'm now being charged for another month's rental for two of the pods. Seriously? Currently six weeks in and they finally straightened out I only had three pods and I'm frustrated and fighting to have the rental charge on two of the pods dropped since all of this was the Rats' error in not closing the pick-up at the originating zip code. Never again. Cost, time and frustration could have been avoided with a private moving company. NEVER again. read more

Do not trust Pack Rat, they work with third parties like Zippy Shell that are careless and false advertise the services they offer. The container they provided was a cage. It was never "protected by the elements" like they said it would be. I thought maybe the cage would be moved into a pod at their storage facility, but it is clear that it wasn't because our couch had RAT feces and holes as if the fabric had been gnawed on! Maybe they call themselves Pack Rat due to their RAT PROBLEM. I'm beyond LIVID and disappointed. read more

Negative stars. I'm updating this review to state that even the third party movers that they contract with follow the company policy of behaving like vermin. I originally thought the third party movers provided great service; however, after unpacking our stuff we found a few things missing. These things were in their original boxes which looked new and were stolen by the movers. I don't know if the items were stolen when loaded or unloaded. Regardless, a claim was submitted a month ago and we have heard nothing. Also, the "manager" that replies to these reviews has never contacted us. So it's Aug 23rd, the new date given to me by their social media team on the 17. My stuff was supposed to arrive between 1-4pm and when I called they said it was scheduled to be delivered since it's on the schedule and unchanged. It's not here. According to the geo location device I put in the container, it and the truck are in Baton Rouge. I called and they acted like it was still on track to arrive at my house today when it's 820 miles away as of this posting. Please note, though, that at the initial agreement, the total was supposed to be a total of $5,780, but you took payment of $3,285.75 on June 30, 2021 and $2,980 before that, quite a bit more than agreed. After confirming both via telephone and on the invoice, as well as after taking full payment, you then advise me that you cannot deliver to Arkansas and that I am expected to travel over 300 miles to pick up two containers myself!!!!! Since you only picked up and did not deliver, nor are you planning to provide the two men PER CONTAINER for three hours each to unload that was included in the payment, I want my personal property and I want more than half of what I have paid. read more

Took 8 days after we tried to get our container shipped for them to contact me about the credit card being declined. Long distance move made us change zip to a PO box and I forgot to update my online account. Oops, my bad, but 8 days. I was then told it would take 10 days from that Monday (was a Saturday I think). Not ideal, but it would give us 8 days to paint and clean the new house (fine). After camping out at our new house for a week I get an "update". The container was going to be shipped and we could arrange for drop of from the nearest ship site 13 days later!!! I was in shock as they had to charge for another months "storage fee". That conversation was today and I'm typing this out at 2:17 in the morning because I feel our house hold items are being held hostage by an incompetent crew of dislocated phone operators. What can I do, they have us by the short hairs? Saga will eventually work out (I hope), but right now I should have bought my own moving truck and sold it after we got here 8 days ago!! On the good note, might be great for a short move, just make sure you have half a football field for them to get in and out of. Update: 7/31 Provided the order number to the Christine J, waiting for response. If I could, I will give 0 star to this company. We are moving from NC to CA, and paid total $8682(including expedite fee $700) to PACK RAT to ship containers. The original date on the order to drop off the container was July 5th, but they didn't show up or contact me at all. I called multiple times and finally they told me they don't have any containers in stock. They finally dropped off the container on July 7th after calling them a dozen of times. After that they changed everything again without any notifications! The original deliver date in CA was July 21st, and I called them on that morning, they still told me it's on schedule, but in the afternoon I called again, they told me these 2 containers were still in NC and they modified the deliver date to July 26 without any notices! Then we wait until July 26 and called them again. They AGAIN changed the order date and told me those 2 containers are still in NC. Every time I called, they always said they will reach out to the facility and give me a call back. But they never do the follow up! I called them again July 27, they still cannot get a response from the facility and get me an updated ETA! AVOID THIS COMPANY! Go to BBB to see how many similar complaints on this company. We were supposed to get our POD delivered on 7/31/2021 for a move that was nearly a month planned in advance. PackRat never showed up leaving us homeless and leaving the 10 people we had to help us move in with nothing to do. On top of that I spent $250 on food and drink to feed my helpers. We started calling PackRat at 9am on Saturday and found out they would be a no show at 5:30pm. We tried to speak to a supervisor but the incompetent leadership was not only unavailable they refused to take our call or even have the decency to call us back. Now my 80 year old mother-in-law has no one to help her move in because people have jobs Mon-Fri. Very happy with my experience with PackRat. First, our sales rep (Marcy?) very thoroughly understood our needs for the move. She was spot-on with her estimate of how many containers we would need and she explained their process very clearly. Right on schedule, the containers were delivered, they were in very good condition and locked securely. On the other side of the country, they were delivered to us as scheduled and we found they had been treated with care, no damage to any contents. I would avoid 1-800-Pack-Rat, LLC because of their surprise fees. Their customer service claims that I was informed about all fees to be paid but that is just their excuse to make me pay more. We have already paid $279:17 up front for the 30 day rental of a 16 foot storage container, know about the pickup charge that is either $64:99 or $69:54, and we received good delivery service and a sturdy storage unit. Surprised us with an additional charge that they claim is for mileage or fuel for $47:48 and it might even be more than that. All together we will be at $4??:?? for a 30 day storage unit rental and no other of their services used. Isn't that a lot of money and at what point will they be happy with what they are collecting? I'm filing a complaint with the DOJ of North Carolina, where their headquarters are. I would NEVER recommend this company. I called the office and set up a storage pod for a bedroom renovations I was doing. I asked that the storage pod be placed in my backyard. I wanted it there for two reasons. 1. B because I have an Entergy Servitude on my property and have to allow them access to the yard. 2. The front area of my yard floods. The representative on the phone assured me that it could go in the backyard. However, the driver pulled the container into the backyard and then got afraid that he would get stuck so he pulled it back into my front yard. He tore my fence off of the hinges and destroyed the grass in my yard. The container was left in my front yard and was flooded during Hurricane Ida. This company also allowed my account to be over due for months and accrue over on thousand dollars in rental and late fees without notifying me that my payments were not being made. They then had the nerve to tell me that a lien was placed on the property in my container. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND that anyone use this company. They tell you whatever you want to hear to rent the container and do something entirely different when they deliver it. They are NOT on top of their billing and are VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. 6/4/2020 . What a scam. I paid an extra $400 for an expedited delivery. I moved my family 600 miles away and expected my container to arrive today.. apparently a fork lift broke a week ago and they have not repaired it. They never called to tell me this happened a week ago. I called twice today to finally find out that they have done absolutely nothing to expedite this, rent machinery, hire an outside contractor or anything . I have a family of 6 including a toddler and pregnant wife waiting for everything we own. Pick up and delivery was on time. No problem there. Our furnature was in storage for over a year. When we unloaded we found rodent damage to several pieces, mattress and carpet. This type of damage is NOT covered in their protection plan. Make sure you read the fine print. read more

I put my belongings in storage on May 14 in Durham, North Carolina for a move to New York in August. I informed Pack Rat from the beginning that I was moving to New York, New York and was quoted at $1495 with no extra fees. I was told when I booked the pod that I just needed to provide 1 week's notice for my move in date and Pack Rat would deliver my goods to my apartment for unloading and stay with the van during this time. My move in date was August 25. I notified Pack Rat 2 weeks in advance of this date and was told that Pack Rat could not deliver my goods on August 25. Pack Rat would only deliver my goods on August 23 or September 6 even though I provided them with more than 1 weeks notice. I agreed to let Pack Rat deliver my goods on August 23 even though that did not work with my schedule. Then, Pack Rat said they would not be flexible on the time of move in on August 23. I asked for delivery in the afternoon but Pack Rat said they would drop it off between 7-8 AM without caring that move in at my apartment building starts at 9 AM. My apartment did not allow move in before 9 AM. I informed Pack Rat of the timing issue and they were uncooperative and just said I had to get it delivered between 7-8 AM or not at all. Then, Pack Rat told me that they could not deliver my unit at all on August 23 without an extra $500 fee for a "live delivery" even though that was part of the original quote. Then, Pack Rat said they needed two full parking spots to park the pod in. If Pack Rat did not find any parking spots at my building, they would turn around and charge me an indeterminate fee. This opened the door for Pack Rat to come look for a space, claim they couldn't find a parking spot, and then charge me an excessive fee for no reason. In general, movers in New York either double park during the move in time but Pack Rat was unwilling to do this so they could make some extra money from "not finding a suitable parking space." I didn't feel comfortable allowing Pack Rat to make any excuse for charging me more money so I said I would pick up my belongings at the pod site in New Jersey. I incurred extra expenses out of my own pocket to pay for a U haul and movers to drive to New Jersey to get my belongings because Pack Rat refused to be cooperative. Pack Rat said they would have my pod out front at their site in Secaucus, New Jersey. However, I got to New Jersey and my pod was nowhere to be found out front. Pack Rat has no system for locating their pods. It took a whole hour to look for my pod in the warehouse. Once I emptied my pod, I noticed that all my boxes were open. I had sealed every single box when putting them in the storage unit to find that they had all been opened. Someone from Pack Rat tampered with my belongings! When I use a moving company, I entrust them with my belongings with the understanding that the movers cannot just open my boxes and go through my stuff as they please. This violates my Fourth Amendment constitutional rights to unreasonable searches and is unacceptable. I learned from the facility where I picked up my storage in New Jersey that the company policy was to hand out 3 keys for their locks. I was supposed to receive 3 keys upon getting the storage unit when in fact, I only received 2 keys. This means someone at the North Carolina facility kept one key for themselves to use after I put my stuff in the unit. This is a complete violation of the original agreement and a scam. read more

Without his intervention and commitment to ensuring no more miscommunications, which was the case to begin with and led to me exploring getting the container picked up empty and cancelling any shipment through packrat but then Bruce stepped in and turned it all around. He truly was exceptional, kept his word, took ownership and became my primary contact to ensure no more snafus. Bruce you're a rockstar and now I am a happy customer and everything from pickup and drop off from California to the east coast went perfectly. One of the all-time worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I used 1-800-Pack Rat because reviews praised their customer service and it was a couple hundred bucks cheaper than PODs. Huge mistake. The container was delivered incorrectly in a way that made it impossible to pick up on its scheduled date. The pickup driver did not inform the company about this even though I asked that he pick it up ASAP (early the next week). When I called to have it picked up, I was informed it would be another week. This was during a week of record humidity and flooding, so I was very nervous about the belongings and asked that they expedite the process. The AWFUL customer service team (including supervisor Nathaniel) not only was not accommodating (for a problem they created in the first place with incorrect delivery) but told me that any problems with the packed items were my fault. He was very curt and rude and showed no desire to help or fix their mistake. Shame on you. Terrible experience. read more

You pay for the convenience, and instead they want you to work around their schedule. When you called them the operators are very rude and very difficult to deal with. I asked for morning delivery. At 1230 I called to find out where the container was. The recording said I could schedule it online. You can't. It asked for a call back number and said I would receive a call back shortly. An hour forty minutes later a computer calls back and puts me on hold again. Eventually a human comes online and says they scheduled me for "anytime" and they had no ETA but that a driver would call an hour ahead. I state that I had asked for morning and she transfers me to an "escalation person". The escalation person said well you are scheduled for anytime so we go by that, but it should be there by ten pm. By no stretch of the imagination is ten o'clock at night morning or even evening. This is the worst excuse for customer service I have encountered possibly ever. I will never do business with this company again and recommend others do likewise. Screwing up the scheduled time is bad enough but making it clear that they don't care about the error, my time or my business is pretty much a guarantee that they will screw up again. read more

Pack Rat Deceptive Sales, Pricing, Delivery Issues Pack Rat has a deceptive online practice of showing charges that you will be charged and then adding on charges when they charge your credit card. The initial charges price never adds up to the charges of what they charge to your credit card. Also, they do not honor the dates that they state for pick up of a unit. They say that that they called to ask to pick up early and there is no record of them calling to ask any such thing. Just a voicemail from a driver saying that he would be picking up unit. I was not scheduled to have unit picked up until 7/14/18 and PackRat sent the driver on 7/13/18 with no call to me to find out if that would work. Then they tried to charge me for that pick up, which I called and they took off my bill. They never picked up on 7/14/18 as originally scheduled and did not pick up until 7/18/18. I have disputed charges with USAA credit card and given them screen shots of my account, before Pack Rat removed all evidence of my account online. I still have screen shots that I will send with this complaint. This company needs to be investigated for bate and switch tactics. They are dishonest either at their remote locations or at their headquarters. They also charge your credit card without fully explaining the charges in advance or your acceptance. read more

We are so glad we chose pack rat for our storage and long distance move to Florida from New York. We had a very narrow driveway and originally called pods who could not put the pod on our driveway..their driver recommended pack rat because of the way they could maneuver in tight spaces. The driver was very nice and helpful. When we finally bought our house in Ocala we had pack rat ship our pod from NY. Although it took them 10 days to get here, they were prompt in delivering our pod and removing it when we were done. I would use them again. read more

We had a horrendous experience with this company. First, they missed delivery window and did not show up till 9:30 pm at night. When I spoke to the manager on the phone he said "it's been a really bad day." When driver showed up he punctured a hole into the side of the pod. He had to take it back to their warehouse which delayed our move by a day as we were hoping to move stuff into the pod that day. When they returned the next day, again there was some damage done to the pod and the invoice was over 50.00 more than what we agreed to when choosing pack rat. I called their headqurters and spoke to a manger who didn't seem to care too much about the delay and cost they had on our move. I understand we all have off days, but this was a bit excessive. Great company! I rented a container from them to move from Chicago to Orange County California and they showed up right on time and the driver (Ryan) was very professional and informative. As promised, he stayed the two hours while we loaded up our container. We received our container at our new home in California in a little over a week which I considered to be very reasonable. I was able to schedule the delivery as soon as it arrived in my area which was nice. I didn't give them five stars due to a couple of snags that occurred but I must say, they were quick to resolve any issues. This is an excellent company with outstanding customer service! I moved in March 2015, long distance from Raleigh, NC to Ft Collins, CO. I used PackRat to move my stuff across the country. PackRat was great to work with! They gave me a better deal than I was getting from anywhere else and even upgraded me to the next size container for same price. The delivery driver was great and answered all my questions. He even gave some helpful tips in packing the container. He checked that the container was secure when he picked up as well. I got the same great service in Colorado as well. When I got the final bill, it was incorrect from what they quoted me... PackRat apologized and quickly resolved the issue within a couple days. I was selling my 2200sqft 2 story house with 2 car garage and buying another house, reserved 2 16ft PackRat units which we packed to the gills. Was never told any weight limits. On the 11th (day before closings) the driver moved the first unit to the new house without issue but the 2nd unit was too heavy. Driver suggested I call dispatch to see if they could deliver another unit to unload into. Jeff Hatcher (Manager), said he didn't have any units available. NONE?? NOT ONE in the entire Triangle area?? Nope, and he wouldn't be able to help me, period. I called my husband who had taken the day off to run last minute moving errands. He said he was around the corner from the house and had just passed the driver, and that I should call him and tell him he would unload as much weight as he had to to get it lighter. I called the driver back, told him we were unloading RIGHT NOW! Even though he was less than 2 miles away and technically still within his time slot with my pick up, he refused to turn around saying he had already committed to the next job. I told him the property wouldn't even belong to me by 10am the next morning and if he was 5 minutes away he should just be able to turn around and finish this job. Nothing I said would change his mind. This began a series of phone calls with me pleading with CS reps, managers, and the ever unsympathetic Jeff Hatcher who asks me if I was ever told a weight limit. When I said "no", he says "yeah, that happens a lot." (You would think if it happens a lot they would have invested in some kind of sticker or gauge on the units that help you determine when you're reaching the weight limit.) He finally said he could squeeze me in for another pickup four days later on the 15th, and even though that meant I would have to abandon my property I had him book it just so I would at least be on their schedule. I called my realtor to contact the buyers of my house to tell them that when they closed and showed up with their moving truck the next day they would not have access to the driveway. Their realtor threatened to get a wrecker to move it. (That conversation was a lot of fun.) Our only choice was to abandon our property and close on the house the next day. The morning of the closing I received a phone call from PackRat asking me to contact the other realtor and ask her to stop calling them because she was insisting that they remove the PackRat unit from her clients new house. I told the CS rep that if that's what it takes to light a fire under them then I would gladly ask the realtor to KEEP CALLING! I don't know what the other realtor finally said to them, but the 2nd unit was in my new driveway at 6pm that same night. Four days later, on the 15th, I get a call from PackRat saying they were on the way to pick up my unit and move it to the new house. I had to inform them that had already happened. (Unbelievable!) We had both units emptied by the 16th. Knowing how they hadn't had ANY available units for me when I had my emergency over-weight incident, I called dispatch and said even though my final empty pick up wasn't scheduled till the 22nd, they could pick up any time. The empty units sat in my driveway and weren't picked up until the scheduled day on the 22nd. Moving and thinking of using this Raleigh/Wake Forest franchise? Good luck! read more

yes this is in all caps. this is the worst company i have ever delt with. i ordered a 16' container on 6/28/2021, they told me they would have it delivered on 7/23/2021. i called on the delivery date to verify it would be delivered and was informed "yes it is schedualed today and you will recive a call 1 hr before they deliver it." well i never got a call. i called again that day and had to wait 1 hr to talk to someone. thay said they would check and call me back.......never got a call. i called again on 7/25/2021 and i was told they would email the manager to cantact me asap! so i waited a day to see if they would call and what a suprise they didnt call. so i called today 7/28/2021 and requested to get a call back and never got one. wait it gets better, at 2:58pm today i got an email saying they cancled my container. still no phone call, no updates, no call from the manager. so instead of trying to help the situation, they just cancled my order i've been waiting a month for. do not use this company ever. read more

We have never used pods before but Pack-Rat made it easier. They were more competitive than other similar movers and since we didn't have our home on the other end ready, the option of having our things stored in the same container as we packed them reduced the chance of having things broken. I must mention that this is the first move where we didn't have anything broken. (We have moved 7 times across country.) Everything arrived just as we packed them. The driver were also very accommodating and helpful in meeting our schedule. I will consider Pack-Rat in the future when we move again. read more

You get 40 emails and they all say contact ME if you have any problems or questions... that is until you give them credit card info... then they don't answer emails or calls? If you call the 800 number, you are on hold for hours, return calls several hours later...then of course after you explain problems they connect you to someone else and you have to tell your story all over again. read more

If I could give negative zero stars, I would. The initial customer service rep never told me I might potentially need a permit to have the container on the street, although I mentioned it being on the street multiple times. I also mentioned street cleaning (I live in the city) several times to her. She couldn't give me an estimated delivery time or even basic hours of operation for when the container would be delivered. As I found out later, they actually charge $50 to confirm a delivery time (who does that). I was annoyed, but was pressed for time, as my condo was rented at the last minute and I had to move out quickly. The driver couldn't drop the pod bc of the permit issue and when I spoke to a supervisor about my issue, he said "this is your fault". He had a cavalier and unempathetic attitude and even got nasty with me. I had to then speak with his manager, who was actually very decent. I recommended that as a standard, they inform people that a permit may be required (supposedly, this is done now as a result of my complaint). Finally when I was having the container dropped at its final destination I called billing to confirm my charges and the rep there was condescending towards me and acted like I was an idiot. He gave me a different quote than what I was actually charged. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.... Ever. read more
