Light rock. Nothing to get excited about here but I like the fact that I can listen here at home in NH and also up in Vermont and Montreal when I visit. Minus 1 star for their horrid "Delylia at Night" syndicated radio sob story which is so depressing and so anti -gay.

The array of programming is eclectic to say the least. The personalities of the DJ's alone are worthy of listening this station, which like New York City, "never sleeps".

Good news for me, WMPG has none of those things! In the interest of full disclosure, I do slave away behind the sound board in the early morning hours here playing all manner of subculture-y audio goodness (and a bit of badness) so that may make me a little bit biased. I came to WMPG as a volunteer because it's an awesome radio station that has a wide variety of programming that simply doesn't get air-time on commercial stations. They have something for everyone (except maybe eight year olds into Beiber - but there's plenty out there for kids with terrible taste), without those irksome commercials. And, while I may fall into convulsions at the sound of a bagpipe or a fiddle, I know that I can tune back in an hour or so later and hear something else. Plus, they actively encourage voices from the community. Real, genuine voices. And they are a friendly environment for all people regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, physical mobility, age, gender, sexuality, politics, or personal quirks. That makes them super awesome in my book.

I am sad to admit that I worshipped this station for three months in my youth. Maybe the three months of darkness made the light of good music shine more brilliantly. Yet, it's just as likely that it did irreparable damage to my taste in music. If you have children, shut it off for them, and give them some Iggy and the Stooges for their fix of angst.

WFNK is more commonly known as "107.5 Frank FM". When I look at their playlist, I expect that I'll…read morelike the station a lot. But when I listen, I usually find myself happier with their competitor, The Blimp. Frank just feels too poppy for me & they lose me after a while. What I really like about Frank is that they're there on Sundays, when the Blimp develops a multiple personality disorder and morphs into sportscasting mode. I'm a fan of Frank FM as a backup station but they rarely hold me for more than a day or two. Quick update (10/29/13): Lately I've been listening to Frank because I want to understand why it seems annoyingly poppy despite the playlist. It's the DJs. Some of the jocks have the sound in their voice that comedians like to make fun of. The voice that you hope they don't use when they're off the air & hanging out with friends and family, like one of Casey Kasem's Top 40 shows. I hope that makes sense.

They play a lot of the new and popular songs/groups in rock/metal (Dayseeker, From Ashes to New, Ice Nine Kills, etc). As well as plenty of classic rock too including Ozzy, Nirvana, and more. During the morning of weekdays from 5am-10am they are one of many channels across the country who play the talk show Free Beer & Hot Wings. It's a great morning talk show to listen to at work before they transition over to music. After the morning show the hosts playing the music have some good personality and typically go into some details of each band after a song plays. They have a couple different hour spans where they don't play any ads and during the lunch hour you can request songs as well. Lastly they often have giveaways for many concerts available through their website with easy entry. Which with the prices of tickets nowadays how could you complain about a chance at free! Overall an extremely solid option for a Maine radio station! Give it a listen if you are a fan of rock/metal and any similar genres.
