I first learned of 12 Oz at the Atlantic City Tattoo Convention this year when I had the honor of being tattooed by David Carreras. I was so in love with the tattoo that I decided to make an appointment with him at the studio during my next visit to Atlantic City (the studio is in Deptford and I drove an hour to the studio because that's just how awesome David is). Upon entering the studio I was blown away by just how bright, inviting and massive the studio was! They do tattooing, piercing and also have a large retail section that sells awesome items (& they were having a Black Friday sale). I worked with David via email on the design (& also signed all my paperwork and submitted deposit electronically) which was super convenient and when I arrived at my scheduled time David was ready for me (which is also awesome because I've had appointments with other artists at other studios and they were never on time). David was awesome as usual and allowed breaks whenever I needed them and also finished within the number of hours discussed. I LOVED LOVED LOVED my new piece of art and my friend who was with me also love it (& the overall vibe of the studio that she is thinking of scheduling an appointment as well), Lastly, the artwork throughout the studio is sooooo dope and you can just tell that these people CARE and are GREAT PEOPLE because the energy is that real and flowing from everywhere. I came in to get my second lobe piercing. The man that pierced them was speaking so quietly I couldn't hear him. When he pierced them he missed both of the marking dots completely. My left ear has the pink earring I asked for, but my right ear has a gem that is a red color. The environment was clean and all but everyone seemed to hate their job. read more

This place is a prime example of what I expect from a top tier tattoo/piercing studio. I was fortunate enough to get a walk-in appointment one Sunday to get a new stud put in to my nose piercing after a rather unpleasant experience at another south Jersey staple tattoo/piercing shop. Mantis was exceptional to work with, and his work was impeccable. Their jewelry is excellent quality, and the woman working the front was also great to work with. I got my lip pierced by 12 OZ back in 2005 and the experience was similiarly great. Any additional work that I get in the future will definitely be done here. I have now officially been both pierced and inked at 12 oz and I feel it is my duty to tell everyone how fantastic they are. First, I had my nose pierced with my best friend during the second half of the pandemic (May 2021) as a little midlife crisis moment. AJ was wonderful from start to finish, explaining the process, taking all safety precautions, and making us feel at ease. Now, a year and a half later I came back with my mom for matching tattoos that we had discussed getting for over a decade. The shop is set up almost like a doctors office, with private rooms for piercings and tattoos. There are two little seating areas for waiting, a small area with merchandise, and a few cases of body jewelry. When you walk in, the receptionist is so helpful and welcoming. My mom and I had Maria as our artist and she was amazing. We talked to her the whole time and felt like we knew her forever by the end. I also had my nose ring replaced and discovered they carry high end body jewelry too. AJ helped me select a low profile four diamond cluster setting and even took out his trusty diamond tester to show me it was legit. I will never go anywhere else for piercing/tattoos and will recommend 12 oz. to everyone I know! read more

Listen, I'm not a piercing and tattoo kind of gal, or at least I didn't think I was. But earlier this year I brought my daughter to get her nose pierced. And as many people have rightly said, AJ is the consummate professional: he knows what he's doing, he's efficient and meticulous, and one thing my daughter really appreciated was that he explained every part of the process as he was doing it. He deserves every bit of praise that he gets for being a master at his craft! And now I must give HUGE kudos to Vincent DeCastro, who so steadily and (also) meticulously gave both my daughter and myself our very first tattoos yesterday. We were very (very) nervous, but Vin, as well as his wife Valerie (who communicated with me several times via email before the appointment) made the process as smooth as it possibly could be from before we even arrived until the moment we left. Neither my daughter nor I have any illusions that we are what most would consider part of the normal crowd at a piercing/tattoo shop, we're pretty basic! So there was definitely a ton of imposter syndrome going on in my brain when I visited back in January, and then again yesterday for the tattoo. That said, at every part of our experiences there, including several interactions with the *wonderful* person running the front of the shop (who deserves a raise for making an old lady like me feel welcomed), we have never been made to feel like we don't belong. I am being genuine when I say that means the world to me as a person, a customer, and most importantly, a mom. Vin (aka Best Hair in the Biz) did a beautiful job. He put up with my dozens of questions, was patient, gracious, and best of all...really intentional and excellent at his craft. We are beyond thrilled with both the results and the experience. So, as I close out this monumental, overlong review that I hope serves to show how positive the experience was, if you're out there like I was, feeling very nervous about getting your first tattoo, I cannot recommend this place, or Vincent, more highly. He was beyond kind and capable and stayed calm as ever when she got a little scared. He was more patient and compassionate than most of the pediatricians my kid has been to. He is an absolute gem! Our son wanted to get his ears pierced and I heard that AJ at 12oz is the best and boy were they right! The facilities are beautiful and clean. Masks were worn by all. AJ took his time making sure that we understood the sterilization process and was able to see that everything (even the q tips) were sterilized. He explained the entire process to our son as he went along. He was so gentle and our son was thrilled with the process and the outcome. I highly recommend!! read more

My friend and I went to get out nipples pierced today and had a great experience. Sometimes you pay high prices for quality jewelry and great care and that's what this place is. The piercer AJ was fantastic. He knew his stuff and made my friend and I feel very comfortable. My friend was nervous as heck but he had many tips and techniques to help with that and make it as painless of an experience as possible. He's gonna tell you the truth if you ask about the pain but that's great. He showed us what he was sterilizing and using and how he was doing it. He even had this cool machine that anodizes the jewelry which made it change colors, he did this at no extra charge as well. He made sure to follow the covid guidelines set forth by their studio. He even had a k95 mask and a face shield before he began piercing which was a nice added touch for comfort. He is apart of APP (association of professional piercers) and I don't really know what that means or what it takes to get in but that's another great thing. He was inviting as well as the entire studio but especially him. It took about an hour and a half after everything was finished which may seem like a long time but that time went into him making sure we were ready and comfortable and knew what we needed to. We also talked about Mandalorian, music, the office, etc. so long story short he's a cool dude and if you're wanting to get a piercing from someone who knows what they're doing then go to this guy. read more

I've had both of my nostrils, my helix, and my tongue pierced by AJ and he's done a phenomenal job every time. He is extremely professional, and excellent at soothing my nerves throughout the process which I most appreciate! All of my piercings have healed perfectly, I have never once encountered a single issue with the piercing or the jewelry. The wait is usually never too too bad, but I recommend going earlier in the day rather than later as if it's busy, getting in to see Aj could take a bit longer than expected. The waiting area does have a TV with Netflix to keep you entertained as you wait! The man at the front desk is also very friendly and funny, which again, did help with my nerves coming into the studio each time. if i could give a 0 star i would. AJ was incredibly rude when I was going to get a belly piercing. I had to do a $50 deposit to continue and when he told me I wasn't eligible I only got a refund of $40. Every time I couldn't hear him when he was speaking and asked him to repeat himself politely he answered me obnoxiously and with zero respect. The fact i had to put money down just to be told he couldn't do it, I happily went somewhere else that had no problem piercing, and it's healing just fine. read more

AJ is one of the best piercers in NJ. Really, the guy really knows his stuff. I've had my rook and vertical surface tragus done by him. And you know what, the surface piercing, after 2 years, is still going strong in my ear (and those things don't usually last longer than a year). I've gone to him a couple times throughout the years to ask questions and he's always kind and helpful. The jewelry is a little expensive but he only gets quality metals, so you can trust it. And honestly, I'd rather fork over more cash for a quality piercing that's going to heal successfully and not act up down the road. I've recommended him to all my friends and they have all had successful experiences as well. I can't speak for tattoo artists here, but for piercings, definetly go to 12 oz. in Deptford! read more

I just got pierced here last night by AJ and loved the entire experience. The entire shop is spotless, and is relatively quiet as well. He is extremely professional, gave me great advice, and talked me through the entire process. Everyone here (including the other customers) were extremely nice! AJ was so informative about my piercing and even took the time to explain why my other piercings went wrong from other people in the past! I got my septum pierced and it literally felt like someone pulled a nose hair out of my nose with tweezers... even less than that. I have come multiple times to get a piercing done and each time I was told the wait would be "a few minutes" and it ends up being a long time. I tried to give one more chance but it happened again. I was told "a few minutes" and ended up waiting at least 15 minutes, all the while hearing the piercer himself having a casual conversation with someone. Like YOU HAVE A FREAKING CUSTOMER WAITING FOR YOU. and then another customer comes in asking for help to look for a new piece of jewelry and they talked at least 15-20 minutes. And then when they FINALLY finished, the piercer took another customer who had 'apparently' been there first and the receptionist tells me it's gonna be at least 20 minutes before they are done. WTF. I left. I have had it. "a few minutes" turns into a one hour wait?? More like a waste of my freaking time. I don't mind waiting but give me an honest answer of how long. Especially because I really did not have the time today. So BEWARE, if she says "a few minutes", it's possible you will be there at least half an hour. Screw that. read more

My experience at 12oz was absolutely incredible. Yesterday I had another shop very inconsiderately cancel my appointment last minute because their client before me was hours late and instead of canceling their appointment they canceled mine. I was super bummed because this was a tattoo in memorial of my passed father. Not wanting to deal with the previous shop anymore I called over to 12oz because I've heard some really really good things about them. I spoke with Mario on the phone and he told me to come in so he could check out what I wanted done and set me up with an appointment. When I made it in Mario was actually free and was able to take me on the spot as his last appointment of the night. The shop itself is very clean and up to date and Mario was super friendly and funny. He executed my tattoo perfectly and I'm so happy with how it turned out! I got my nipples pierced by AJ this past July. I was super nervous going in and he made me feel super comfortable. I think the best part about my experience was after - I've read so many stories online about people having trouble healing their nipples.
