The City of Hackensack had luncheon for 200 Seniors and the luncheon was catered by 14 Parish Restaurant, there was a variate of food, rice and peas, chicken 3 ways, salmon 2 ways, vegetables fry plantains, both beef and vegetable cocktail patties, festival, stew beef, fish, sweet potato, steam cabbage. I am sure I missed a few other things. I have also used them for some catering also. So if you are just have a small gathering you should call 14 Parish Caribbean Kitchen. Love the stew chicken with rice and peas!! Chicken is always sliding off the bone. Rice is always cooked well and flavorful. Delivery order yesterday for late lunch... I had never tried Jamaican food so I wanted a bit healthy and interesting food to try. My husband and I did Jerk chicken which came w/rice and peas and steam vegetables. The plates are really huge. We got two orders and they can be shared with four. The flavor was smoked ,spiced, salty-sweet with hot spicy ( I think habanero). Oh my Lord!!! I fixed it absorbing all the jerk sauce over the chicken with a paper towel and it worked. Legit, delicious Jamaican food that hits the spot on the money. Had been craving Caribbean food for a while and came in for takeout for the Lunch Specials a few times and 14 Parish was ASSSSSS advertised on Yelp. This restaurant is super tiny and there are no tables or chairs, so it's 100% takeout. They don't take orders via phone, unless you provide your credit card info, so it's pretty much order in person or online. There are about 20 different lunch/dinner options to choose from and if you drop in from 11AM-4PM you can order one of those options as a lunch special - which is slightly less expensive than the small/large selections - it's not that big of a difference between the small and lunch special - but during inflation, every cent counts! :D Each entree is served with white rice/rice & peas + plantains + salad or vegetables (cabbage). So far, in the few times I've been here, we've tried the Stew Chicken, BBQ Jerk Chicken, Sweet Chili Fry Chicken, Curry Chicken and Stew Beef. Out of what we've ordered so far, the BBQ Jerk Chicken and Sweet Chili Fry Chicken were the outright winners in this bunch. The BBQ sauce on the BBQ Jerk Chicken gave it a ton of flavor. The Sweet Chili sauce on the Sweet Chili Fry Chicken was absolutely delicious and, shockingly, my first thought when I bit into the Fry Chicken was....Korean Fried Chicken (KFC)! It had the fried texture of KFC and the sweet chili flavor gave the chicken a nice sweet tang. As for the others, the Stew Chicken was decent, however the Stew Beef was on the dry side and the Curry Chicken was OK. If you've had curry chicken from an Americanized Chinese restaurant, it drew similarities in my mind. Just saying. They tend to give a lot of rice, which is in my genetic DNA to devour, and the cabbage makes for a nice side to mix it up. The employees here are super friendly and welcoming. Ordered via UberEats for pickup for a late lunch on a Saturday at around 2:30. It turns out they cancelled our order (without notifying us) because they had run out of the jerk pork. We ended up getting the jerk chicken and the fried chicken, with a side of rice peas and steamed veggies. The jerk chicken was good. It could have used some extra sauce (even though we had already opted for the extra sauce option). The fried chicken was not what I expected but in a good way. It comes smothered in a sweet and spicy sauce. It reminded me of gochujang or Korean fried chicken. The sauce was really good but it was salty. It will definitely have you reaching for tons of water. I was apprehensive of the steamed veggies because all of the pictures looked like it was just frozen carrots. Luckily, we got cabbage that day and it was a nice balance to all the saltiness of the food. We also ordered Jamaican beef patties and at $3.75, these were a rip off. They tasted like they came from the freezer section of a supermarket. You're better off taking that money and buying a whole box at the grocery store. We didn't eat the food until maybe about 45 minutes later, so obviously it was cold by the time we did. I have been going to 14 parish for years, and the food is always consistent when the owner is present. The other day i wanted some jerk chicken to bring with me to work for dinner. The jerk chicken wasn't jerk chicken, it was bland, no color, and absolutely disgusting. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I wasn't able to eat this. As I sit here eating, I noticed something black sticking out of a piece of goat. Then I decided to look at the other pieces of meat and noticed more hair on another piece of goat. This must be a secret seasoning or something. Nothing worst than finding hair in your food as your eating. Not sure what is happening here, but the cleanliness is severely lacking. A coworker had mentioned 14 parish, so my sister and I decided to walk in and try for ourselves. Ive lived in Hackensack for 6 years, and managed to drive by this place and never see it. The young lady behind the counter was phenomenal. (I wish I could remember her name!). I told her I had already tried the curry goat and it was delicious, and my sister and I were interested in having the real jamaican experience :) That comment opened up the flood gates to what would become an 80$ take out order lol We ended up getting the curry goat again, and oxtail, beef patties, potato salad, mac and cheese, plaintains, and two drinks. (Both were also suggestions by our food consultant at the register, both bevs were deeeelish. Champagne Kola though! ) I always say, its the hole in the wall mom and pops that are the hidden gems. I've enjoyed the food at 14 Parish and have made food orders from there many times. The staff can seem somewhat curt and indifferent but I've eaten at enough Caribbean restaurants to expect that. All that aside, this will be my last time eating there. This morning I order butter bean and salt fish with boiled dumplings and banana. I cut the dumpling and found a long hair kneaded into it. I reached out to the restaurant and was asked to send a pic which I did but requested my money back because I had no intentions of finishing my meal. I was told on my next order I would receive a credit...I have no intentions of eating here again and will forgo a credit on a future order. Ranging from classics such as Jerk chicken meals and oxtail -- everything tastes so authentically fresh and like it's flavored with a lot of attention to detail. The oxtail literally melts off the bone, is sitting a spiced gravy, and the sides are not an afterthought but perfectly cooked rice and beans, and stirfried cabbage which who knew could be so tasty. The jerk chicken is really well seasoned and not salty. All of the dishes were well packaged, came hot, and left me excited to try more in the future. Discovered this place on Uber Eats one night and have been ordering from them non stop for the last couple of weeks. I don't have any frame of reference for Caribbean food since I haven't had it all that much but everything from 14 Parish is delicious. I am slowing making way way through everything on their menu. Their portions are very generous and they are priced very affordably. My favorite so far is their jerk chicken fallowed by the lamb. Everything is well seasoned and and full of flavor. Their patties are also great, but on numerous occasions I've gotten the wrong patty (not a big issue for me because I learned that I love them all). Their lunch specials are slightly smaller than their regularly prices menu items but they come with a drink. I had been craving ackee & salt fish, calaloo, fried dumplings and plantains which they never have, but ShopRite always has them on sale. I ordered my food, paid $20 for 2 mini containers, and 4 fried dumplings. The Ackee & Salt Fish was very spicy, and greasy, the Calaloo had stalks that were tough and strains of wood like substance. I never tasted anything like this in my life. There is no way I can eat the remaining food. I ate what I could because that was my first meal of the day. Omg. The food was so dang good. After having the oxtails at Flames in Boston, I was nervous to find something that wouldn't equate to the same experience. My friend and I ordered the oxtail lunch special, their beef patties, and the jerk chicken $5 special. The oxtail was perfectly cooked and fell right off the bones (as good oxtail does) and the cabbage added a sweetness to cut the fatty goodness of the oxtail. The only thing I didn't really love about this place was their rice. It was a little hard and brittle as if the rice wasn't fully cooked, but we still ate most of it because we can't get enough of that oxtail sauce drizzle! The beef patties were perfectly crusty--PTL that it wasn't golden krust (sorry..but I can't do the frozen after the real thing)--and the beef itself had a nice spicy kick to it. Just an FYI, these are good even for the next morning. Just pop it into the air fryer if you have one and wallah! Still good as new. Lastly, the jerk chicken $5 was the real deal. My Jamaican friend also told me about callaloo being like collard greens which I love... so this was the venture! Small restaurant nestled in a strip mall, street parking only. The menu is largely displayed on multiple TV screens with actual plastic containers denoting their available sizes for meals. Found the last Irish moss, however, not freshly made & was the last bottle in the fridge. Picked up the ginger beer & sour sop bottles too! The ginger beer is STRONG! If you can handle ginger spice then this is a great drink to enjoy. Not too sweet, but it did have lots of sugars shown on the label, I wouldn't down it all. Heck I couldn't even, very potent but this perhaps could cure a darn cold haha. Sour sop is a nice light tropical drink. Tastes fresh even though delivered in a bottle. Must get. Irish moss is an acquired taste I feel. It's got that vanilla & allspice flavoring but either the vanilla was too strong or the sea taste is. I know the sea moss's health benefits for congestion/antiviral/antibacterial/skin conditions but I couldn't drink more than a sip. Will try again, but more importantly more other juice flavors & foods here. The Jamaican patty was toasty & soft with a delicious seasoned filling. But, twice did through Uber eats and the order is incomplete and spent 50 dollars this time. Get goat curry bundle and did not receive sprite and callaloo w Roti skin Dhal puri did not get Roti skin. Also ordered Side of Roti skin bus up shut and received that. I would pick up, because they are to lazy when it come to delivery orders or under staffed or two different Uber driver took items. Today I ordered mac and cheese, rice&peas and candied yams on the side. The sides were cold but that's usual. I literally order really for the taste of the oxtail. The mac and cheese tasted like left over from several days ago and no visible cheese in it, except for a little piece on top, but otherwise dry and tasteless, rice & peas looked fresh but also tasteless and the candied yams were just ok.
