WOW. What a beautiful place. Oh, and the food is pretty good also. From the moment you arrive, you know this place is first class. The first thing you see is a beautiful pool that overlooks the ocean. We came in for dinner. We heard that this was the place to see the sunset. Maybe you'll even get to see the flash if you're lucky. We had some clouds in the distance, so we were not so lucky. We got a table outside, in the corner of the deck. It was a nice spot to watch everything around you. We had wonderful weather during our trip, so there was a nice breeze which made it very comfortable. The menu has some really nice choices. Plus, there was a chefs special. We ordered the lobster and a special but substituted the grouper for the salmon. I ordered the grouper grilled, and it was very tender, fresh, and really tasty. The lobster was just right. Everything was perfectly cooked. Remember, everything is a la cart. So, each item is charged individually. Just FYI. The service was good. They were right there when we needed something. The meal came out quickly. We really got to enjoy a nice evening of great food, good drinks, and nice atmosphere. Very romantic. Our last dY in Eleuthera and decided to try 1648 Restaurant. This is located at French Leave Resort (Marriot). On the harbor. There is outdoor and indoor seating. We chose indoor because of the mosquitos that may be lingering out there. Our waiter was Keith. He was personable, friendly and hist an awesome guy who made us feel right at home. After we ordered, he gave us a history of 1648 and Eleuthera! We both ordered the 1648 salad which consisted of arugula, radishes, picked onions, mango in a mango vinaigrette dressing.. AMAZING! Then for din er we had the catch of the day, which was grilled grouper with Parmesan risotto, baby bok choy, grilled cherry tomatoes. This dish was outstanding, they did not skimp on that huge piece of fish. It was grilled to perfection. The risotto was creamy and tasty, the bok choy was a nice addition as it had that crunch factor. The entire meal was fabulous ! We ended up sharing the pina colada bread pudding, served with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Im speechless! It was soo delicious! The restaurant and grounds are beautifully decorated in a nautical new england theme i side. The out door deck had like 12 tables overlooking the harbor. There was a band playing to really make you feel like your on vacation! This is a MUST GO when in Eleuthera! read more

It would be a 5 star rating but the "No-See-Ums" (there is indoor seating though if needed), were pretty bad, but great location, great food and great service - thanks Kelly. Prices are reasonable considering location and compared to the local shacks although the wine list prices were on the proud side, but that's typical of the islands. Will visit again without hesitation, probably the best or at least one of the best on Eleuthera. Don't forget your camera for great sunsets. This is a "must go to" restaurant. read more

We were there in the off season, so really it was just us! It was amazing. Food was great, service was pleasant and we enjoyed the peaceful calm with no one else around. Also went snorkeling right outside! read more

Would give 3.5 stars if I could, rounding up because of the ambiance. On an island with incredibly high prices it wasn't a surprise that one of the fanciest restaurants is very pricy. The food was good, not great. The service was a bit on the rough side, but not horrible. The setting was fantastic - a small, high end yet understated resort with wonderful views of governors harbor and a beautiful sunset. My wife and I started with salads - she had ahi tuna and I had the 1648 salad. The Ahi was fresh and seared nicely, although completely unseasoned. The vegetables were fresh, but the dressing was very bland. My salad was pretty much one note - overly sweet - although on occasion I'd get a perfect bite where all the ingredients came together well. For main courses I got the catch of the day which was grilled salmon served over risotto. The fish was unfortunately over cooked but it was fine. The risotto was so over cooked and mushy it would more appropriately have been called polenta, but still the flavor was great, it was my favorite part of the dish. The two pieces of bok choy were a great addition and added some nice crunch to an otherwise mushy plate. My wife's curry braised lamb shank was the best dish of the night - tender and deeply flavorful - I'd gladly pay $36 for that all day long. With a bottle of water and one cocktail the total came to around $180. It was nice to dine in a more upscale restaurant after days of beach shacks, I'd recommend coming to 1648 if you want an upscale experience and come in with measured expectations of the food. read more

My favorite restaurant on Eleuthera!! The food is truly so good in all aspects and so are the drinks! We love the conch rangoons, of course, they are so tasty and flavorful. After telling our waitress we loved them so much and asking what was inside, the chef came out to say hello and tell us his tricks! Very kind of him and pleasant to talk to! Wonderful entrees include the lobster pasta with its incredible sauce, lobster pizza, and more! Those are just my favorites and I convinced my family to get the lobster pasta after how I raved about it our first night and they were all very pleased! My brother loved his fancy pina colada and my parents got fun cocktails they loved! No bugs at all when we dined at night, brought bug spray and were prepared but we didn't have any problems and didn't even need a fume tin lit on our table when we came! Spent a week on Eleuthera in January 2024. Went to 1648 twice for dinner; the first experience was so good we had to go back again. Both meals were excellent, as were both of the servers. Sat outside on the deck which was a little buggy, not too bad, and offers an awesome view during your meal. If you can time your visit to 1648 around sunset even better. Highly recommend. read more

This was 2 great meals (lunch and dinner here) in a beautiful atmosphere with great service. The Conch chowder was amazing! We also had the conch Rangoon for appetizers. Served with good service and great presentation. My husband had the lamb shank for dinner which he described as the best lamb he ever had. Cannot tell you how nice our experience was -- Torez waited on our daughters and our family friend -- someone who frequently visits the island. He was a total gentleman -- yet completely relatable in a very kind, fun way. He was respectful and courteous, but engaging so that our kids had as delightful of an experience as we did. My husband and I had an amazing dinner, which also had great service by Kenneth. We shared the conch rangoons, which were crunchy and delicious. My husband had the shrimp and sausage pasta and I had the lobster pasta. Both had such yummy sauces that we asked for some crusty bread to sop it up. Kenneth brought us some warm crusty slices that were perfect. We finished our evening with the coconut bread pudding, which was to die for. I thought the prices were just right compared to other places we ate on Eleuthera. read more

Disappointing, overpriced, and mediocre food. Our party of 8 made a dinner reservation for a waterfront table and were told that they wouldn't hold the table if we arrived late. We actually arrived early but were not acknowledged until exactly our reservation time, only to be told that our table was not ready and they had no idea when we would be able to be seated. Given the choice to wait an undetermined amount of time, we were offered a table inside. The interior was nothing special, considering we were on a beautiful island on the water. Service was friendly enough, drinks were fine, although our bottle of wine was served with wet wine glasses, straight out of the dishwasher with water still in the bottom. The margarita pizza was soggy, too much cheese and not a speck of basil. The pizza in Nassau Airport was better. Pesto pasta was swimming in water and the Carrribean salad is really just guacamole with tiny mango strips. The grouper and steak were good. read more
