Nice little diner! We needed a quickly lunch stop and popped in....had a cheeseburger with fries and a grilled cheese with coleslaw and a coke. The fries they served that day were like the mix between a steak fry-potato wedge-curly fry! Food was good and everyone working there was courteous. A little hole in the wall diner with great southern hospitality. Our waitress was great and attentive, very kind and I loved how she told her guests to have a blessed day. The food was amazing!! We sat at the counter and watched them cook everyone's order. Every Single Thing looked amazing coming off the line. I got bills special and wow. I ended up getting an order of crispy bacon on the side because it looked so good getting cooked and I'm not a big bacon fan. I'll go back just for the bacon. Coffee tasted good. If there's one thing that my letter carrier father has always taught me, it's that you shouldn't judge a restaurant by its locale. He has always been the king of finding great places to eat hiding in unsuspecting strip malls. I've taken that advice to heart many times over the years, and did so again when walking into 16th Avenue Diner on a recent trip to Gainesville. I'm so glad I did. My Uncle (my Dad's brother) and Aunt had a diner back home when I was little. It didn't last for more than a few years, but I remember it well. Walking into 16th Avenue was like walking into Margie's Diner all over again, and it was almost like I was waiting for my Uncle to come walking out from the back to start cooking on the grill. Talk about some real nostalgia, guys. I ordered some corned beef hash, eggs, and home fries, and they were just as if I ordered them from a diner back home in Connecticut. Our waitress was observant, but not overbearing, and the staff, as a whole, was incredibly nice. Prices were right on par for what I expected, as well. The ambiance might not be everybody's cup of tea, but this little diner made this born and bred Yankee feel right at home. read more

So this is where we go to compromise on Waffle House. The hubs feels like he's in the 7th Circle of Hell at Waffle House but this place allows him to have comparable food without the experience. It's a small diner but steadily busy with people coming in and picking up food. Lots of people seem to order takeout here. I enjoyed the variety of people that came in. The service was very friendly and small town feeling and the food was good. My reason for taking a star off is because I felt like everything needed a bit of salt.
