A hidden gem. Found by accident but it was fantastic. Pastrami sandwich was out of this world. Bread was soft and the pastrami was warm up.

3 stars 17th Street Deli is still a solid local deli with good sandwiches and a neighborhood feel, but in my opinion it was much better years ago before the ownership/menu changes. Back then the portions were huge, especially the large sandwiches, and it really stood out as one of the best deli spots around. The food is still good and the quality is decent, but the portions definitely feel smaller now and they seem to skim a bit more on the meat and ingredients compared to how it used to be. It's still worth checking out if you want a local sandwich spot, but longtime customers will probably notice the difference from the old days. read more

I love the sandwiches here on the French Baguette. Their ingredients are always so fresh and tasty. Albeit their prices are on the high side, but you DEFINITELY get what you pay for. My recommendation isn't about the food, rather the ambiance. I've eaten in there and because there's just lots of tall windows, it gets super bright in there, which makes it a bit uncomfortable to sit in. If they could have some roll down blinds to take away the glare, it would give it a better feel for sure. Just offering some feedback from a loyal customer. read more

Had not been there for a few years but recently heard some positives from friends so I tried again. Was greeted by the new owner who introduced herself, her name is Michelle. Great menu items. She told me they bring their bread in fresh daily and I wasn't disappointed. I had the turkey bacon and it was full of meat and tastiness. Prices were reasonable. The next place we tried was 17th Street Deli. I actually found this spot on TikTok while looking for a good deli before heading to the beach with my wife and our friend. It was a sunny day and nothing hits better than a cold sandwich before the beach, so this place came through perfectly. The staff here was super sweet and the girl at the front was incredibly helpful. I basically rapid fired questions at her asking what she recommended and let her choose for me. She pointed me toward the Italian cold sandwich, and she did not miss. I added jalapenos, pepperoncinis, and pickles, and the whole thing was phenomenal. The French baguette had the perfect crunch while still being airy inside. The meats were loaded with flavor and had that perfect salty bite. Paired with the pickles, lettuce, and the dressing they use, it just came together really well. I was honestly impressed. Eating that sandwich on the beach with a full ocean view on a hot day made it even better. It felt like the perfect moment. I am glad we found a new go to deli spot for beach days or even just for a quick lunch. We are used to higher costs living in Orange County however the roast beef au ju sandwich was good flavor but wildly expensive for what you get. For an 18$ sandwich without a side of anything and very little meat overshadowed the taste. I understand your rent is more than it should be in that strip mall, but don't take it out on the sandwich eaters. It's not my fault. Even in 2025 with all the inflation business owners are overly passing onto their customers, the max a sandwich combo should be is $20. Be better. The shop is super clean, simple & quiet because people are in & out. Great place to place a to go & pick up order, especially for lunch. Great place to eat if your a minimalist also. My first acquaintance, and certainly not the last. The food is pretty good, and their popularity is warranted. The wait is on the painfully long side, however, so order ahead online is the principal takeaway. The Reuben, toasted instead of grilled, sounded great. It's been so long, and very few places actually grill anymore. That's what made me curious about their production line. I cooked in a number of restaurants back during undergrad, and the first place was a successful breakfast, lunch, and early dinner spot. I learned how to work fast and cook multiple orders and have high, accurate output. So, after waiting at my table outside for close to 15 minutes, I went in to ask about my order. I think the kitchen could be laid out better than it is presently. There seem to be some inefficient movements by the people on the assembly line, especially to retrieve items being heated up in lieu of a griddle. A manual steamer would be an excellent addition between the two assemblers, for example. Anyhow, everyone was extremely friendly, from the guy who took my order to the guy who completed it. I really enjoyed the sandwich though, which is the important thing. Critiques aside, I'm looking forward to trying something different on the next visit.
