We enjoyed sitting on the patio for brunch! The heaters were much appreciated! We ordered off the menu but had to try the tacos being cooked on the patio. Everything was great! Cute place and great menu. We ordered the Americano breakfast which wasn't on the menu but I saw it on a Yelp review. The potatoes were so good! We were spending a single night in Tyler and our innkeeper recommended the 1836 Texas Kitchen. We were SO glad we took her advice! We had a group of six, which meant a wide variety of food was ordered. Every single person said their selections were very, very good. Special mention must be made of the Crawfish Queso...my wife considers queso to be a major food group, and she said "I think this is the best queso I've ever had in my life." I had to agree, and one of our friends asked for a taste and then kept coming back for "just one more bite." Definitely order this dish! Our server was attentive, friendly and helpful. The food is always great here! They have a wide variety of food options ranging from American fare to TexMex. My top three things to eat here would be the Dob's Fries, anything with the Green Chili Gravy, and (I would say the Best Burger in town) The Lone Star Burger. Sat at the bar and wanted to order a screwball, those that don't know what it is, it's a peanut butter whisky which is just plain awesome. It's more of a sipping whisky. We were with a large group and were given the upstairs area. There were about 40 of us. We had two waitresses and one helper. Believe it or not, they did a great job even though they had to bring the food and drinks from downstairs. A large variety of dishes were ordered and everyone seemed very happy with their choices. The portions are large enough for sharing, and my husband and I split the chicken fried steak. Sometimes you get a sandwich and the chicken breast doesn't fit the bun, it's too thick on one end and too thin on the other and it's not flavorful or juicy. This sandwich was the opposite of all of that. Pounded out nicely to fit perfectly on the bun, each bite full of flavor with a crispy crunch. The sauces, the dressings, the pickled jalapeños and the bun. I would order it again in a heartbeat! And the service was fantastic too. This is probably my favorite restaurant in Tyler, but they either need to step up their takeout game or stop offering it. If you pick up, you check in at the bar, but then the bartender has to find someone else to actually get your food and take your payment. This leaves you hanging out awkwardly in the crowded bar areas. If you use a delivery service, apparently they won't let the person picking up check the bag. Obviously a quick look in a takeout bag might not catch all errors, but if there's one container in the bag and two entrees on the order then something is clearly missing. I got the lone star burger without the fried egg. It was fantastic! It was large enough to save me leftovers for later. I loved the crunch from the fried green tomato. I don't think it needed the bacon, but the pimento cheese was amazing on it! The bun was also perfect. We also got the $15 mimosa carafe, which was definitely worth the price and didn't taste watered down with OJ. My only complaint was how slow the service was. Terrible experience. Hostess was rude when we arrived. Sat at table for over 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged we were there and offered us water. Waiter acted like we were putting him out. When food arrived my food was cold, not warm, like refrigerator cold. He didn't even apologize when I had to go find him. Took the food and eventually brought back another plate that was hot, but just sat it down and walked away never checking back to see if new meal was ok. Ate alone since bynow my wife had completed her meal. Had to track him down one more time to get check. Never heard from a manager. Terrible customer service experience! Just went back there. They are adding 2% undisclosed charge to your bill if you use credit or debit card. Last time to eat here. read more
