We started off with the signature ceviche as our appetizer. For mains we picked the Club 86 Wrap, The Italian, and 'Loated' Shepherd's Pie. Signature Ceviche- This has a shrimp base which was nice and fresh. The marinade is bright and zesty. Served with crisp tortilla chips. A nice appetizer to awaken your taste buds! Club 86 Wrap- The wrap was tender. It was loaded with chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and cheese which is a pretty hearty combination! The side of fries was cooked to perfection with a glorious crisp. The Italian- This was served with a cheese- crusted bread that had a lovely crisp outside and a soft and fluffy interior. We got a garlic upgrade on our side of fries and it was so worth it! This has got to be the most well-seasoned, garlicky fries I've ever had. A real winner! 'Loated' Shepherd's Pie- The meat was flavorful and tender, with a nice hint of ale. Mixed with a generous amount of vegetables and topped with fluffy mashed potatoes. Omg!! Love this place! We spent the day at Dana Point and used Yelp to find a place to eat on the way home. This establishment is much, much more than a brewery. The inside is so relaxing with sports on the tv's. Our server, Kaitlyn, had a great personality and such a great server!! Thank you Kaitlyn for making our dining exper so good!! We shared the 1886 burger. It was so juicy and char broiled. My husband said it was the best burger he had in a long time. The fries were homemade served with delicious ranch dressing. Yummy!!! I recommend the happy hour menu. However, the service is extremely slow. It took them 20 minutes to take our order. A girl named Ashley brought us water when we first took our seats but that was it, she disappeared and she never came back to check on us. This is a great locals spot - but as good as the beer is, the food is great as well. The lunch special is a quite the deal at $14 for an entree and a beverage. I've had sandwiches, salads, appetizers and beer here and always leave happy (except for the chocolate chip cookies. Those were crunchy and unappetizing like warmed up chips ahoy - skip those). Service is great- I'm always treated well when I come in here, and the space feels like a great place to bring the family for a meal, friends for a drink or just to go solo and catch the feeling of the neighborhood. Came here because it seemed beautiful. Then my sister recommended it. Upon arriving we were greeted and the hostess was wonderful (3,7,26 @ 11:45am: sorry I don't know her name). We did wait a few minutes to get our orders in but-- our waiter, when he came to us turned out to be the best server. His name is Nick and he was awesome!!! Constantly checking in on all his tables and making sure they were happy. The food was brought to us and it was okay. . I'm usually an avid hater of cold meats being in salad or warm meat heating up my salad but the chicken was like a perfect temp that just worked well and the grill chars on the chicken were *chef's kiss* ! I was debating on getting the wings and my coworker actually did... they looked a bit odd breading-wise. He said they missed the mark a bit, but he'd try something else on the menu. The service was okay, our waitress was nice and kept asking us if we needed anything at first and then once we got our food we didn't see her for awhile which kind of sucked because I ran out of water. It pains me to write this. I really wanted to love 1886 Brewing. The building and atmosphere are fantastic--a cool, historic space with great potential. The beer itself was solid and the food, once it finally arrived, was pretty decent pub fare. Unfortunately, the experience was completely derailed by what might be the worst service I've encountered in a long time. Our waitress was shockingly absentminded and rude. Our entire visit felt like an exercise in patience and trying to flag someone down. Drinks sat empty for long stretches, and at one point, we saw her chatting animatedly with a table of friends while clearly neglecting her other tables. The breaking point came after an extremely long wait for our food. When we finally got her attention, she claimed WE NEVER ORDERED. After explaining that we had ordered and she had even repeated it back to us, she dismissed us by saying, "Oh, I thought you were just talking about it, not actually ordering." This was not an apology--it was a deflection of blame onto us, the customers. The food eventually came out much later, with no offer to compensate for the wait or the attitude. It's a shame. There's a good foundation here with the location and the brew quality, but if you can't manage basic, attentive, and courteous service, none of that matters. We came for a relaxed dinner and left frustrated. I won't be returning, and I'd caution others to temper their expectations if they decide to visit. read more

We were up in Tustin this weekend so I could pick something up that I had purchased online and decided to make a day of it since we don't make it up here often. After our business had concluded, our first stop was to visit Old Towne Orange. I don't get up to Orange County too often and had never been to old towne before and it seemed like a cool area to check out so we made our way over there and it was a great experience. There was plenty of parking when we arrived and we were close by the town center roundabout. We decided to visit 1886 Brewing for lunch just based on the reviews we'd seen and we had a wonderful time there. I believe that they had just opened for the day because we were some of the first people in there. The layout of 1886 was very open with a long bar as well as a large dining room all of which afforded ample seating for guests. I love the interior of this place and it sort of reminded me of something you'd see from a western movie. We walked in and made our way to the bar where we were greeted by Mackenzie. She brought us too menus and waters and asked if we'd been here before of if she could get something started for us. I ended up getting a spicy Bloody Mary which also came with a sidecar and my fiancée ordered a michelada. Both drinks were wonderful and when I asked for my Bloody Mary to be on the spicy side, Mackenzie understood and executed the assignment perfectly. Although we had already had breakfast, my fiancée got avocado toast which wasn't on the menu but they were able to acquiesce and I had French toast sticks with a bowl of fruit. The food all arrived quickly, was presented and checked all the boxes. It was the perfect amount of food and satisfied our hunger perfectly to get us through the day. Honestly, it makes me very sad to have to write this because the food at 1886 Brewing was genuinely very good. My girlfriend and I came here for the first time on Monday, January 5th. The place had a very welcoming ambiance, and we really liked the giant beer canisters behind the bar. We ordered food for pickup but decided to sit at the bar and ordered two mocktails while we waited -- those were really good as well. Our order included the fish and chips, Brussels sprouts, shepherd's pie, Lulu grilled chicken Greek salad, and the 1886 burger with garlic feta fries instead of regular fries. We took the food home that night. I had the fish and chips, and my girlfriend had the Lulu chicken salad -- everything was great. We were honestly excited thinking we may have found our new go-to spot since our old one is now too far away. The next day, I went to work (I work overnights from 5:30 PM to 4:00 AM) and brought the 1886 burger, garlic feta fries, and Brussels sprouts for my lunch. Everything tasted just as good as the day before, especially the Brussels sprouts. However, while eating the burger, I suddenly choked on something I immediately knew was not food. I was alone in my truck at the time. Luckily, I was able to dislodge it on my own after about a minute, which was honestly very frightening. When it finally came out, I realized it was a piece of plastic. I don't know how it got there, but I still have it and am holding onto it in case the owner sees this and wants to see it for themselves. Because of the incident, my throat became sore and it was hard to breathe in the moment, so I had to leave work early. I feel normal now, but I'm still extremely disappointed and frustrated that this happened -- especially because we truly enjoyed the food and experience otherwise and wanted to come back. After this experience, I'm honestly not sure how to justify returning, no matter how good the food was. I just ask that the kitchen and staff be extra careful when preparing and assembling food. We ordered the brunch board (brunch charcuterie-style), and it was loaded: waffle-battered chicken strips, sausage, candied bacon, scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, French toast sticks, churros with caramel and Mexican chocolate dipping sauce, pancake bites with cinnamon syrup, seasonal bread pudding, and maple syrup. It's meant to be shareable, but we somehow ate almost all of it--which says everything about how good it was. Everything was hot, fresh, and really well done, with a perfect mix of sweet and savory. It's the kind of board that lets you try a little bit of everything without feeling like any item is just filler. We're doing sober January, and the mocktails here deserve a serious shout-out. We had two of the best mocktails we've had anywhere--thoughtful, flavorful, and beautifully made. Granted I only got one item on the menu that I shared with my other party , so take this review with a grain of salt . I am vegetarian so I did not get the chili on my nachos , so maybe that would have made them better . The nachos just weren't what I was expecting , the plate was cold and the cheese was lukewarm . I rate them 5/10 maybe it would've been better if the temperature was higher and the cheese was melted . Espresso martini was delicious and the Mai tai was... well nothing to write home about .
