Located in Playhouse square, 1942 Tacos and Tequila gave this out of town visitor delicious Quesabirria tacos! Ordered on recommendation from the server, these tacos were outstanding. Three tacos come in an order with the yummy side of beef broth for dipping. Chips and salsa are quickly delivered to your table upon seating. The chips and salsa were very tasty! I also ordered a margarita. While their house margarita was clearly a better price and size, I had to choose a different drink to get a better tequila. This was absolutely fine, but the margarita was still heavy on the mix as opposed to the tequila. There is plenty of seating for larger or smaller parties, both inside and outside as well as a few seats at the bar. My server was very friendly, as were all of the staff at 1942 Tacos and Tequila. Looks like there are a lot of 1942 Tacos and Tequila throughout the US, so check to see if there is one in your area. I would visit again based on those Quesabirra tacos. read more

One of our office go to lunches, Tacos and Tequila is quick, moderately priced and the service and menu are amazing. Whether you stop in for lunch, happy hour or before a game you will not be disappointed. The wait staff are incredible, nice and patient, especially if bring the entire office to lunch on a Tuesday afternoon during the midday rush. They have my favorite salsa for a Mexican restaurant, perfect heat and texture. Today I opted for huevos rancheros with guacamole and rice, fresh and piping hot, loved it. I usually get the shrimp tacos and Mexican street corn, which is a huge portion, but wanted a lighter fare. I have been here 2x. Once after a Guardians game and now after a show at The Conner Palace. Easy walking from Playhouse Square. They seat you pretty fast. Very friendly. Brought chips to the table immediately. It was late so we did not want to get anything too heavy. I got 3 beef hard tacos supremes. It's written on the menu and I didn't want anything elaborate just the tacos. So it was perfect. My Mom who saw the show with me ordered some nacho jalisco. The food came out in like 5 mins. It was hot and delicious. The tacos were overflowing with ingredients. The nachos were the same. We dug in and I ate my tacos and mom ate most of her nachos. The nachos had fresh jalapeños and were really good. The seasoned ground beef was very good on both the nachos and the tacos. I really can't complain. It was a hot quick good meal, staff was great. The restaurant is decent size and it's a fun place. Next time we get some margaritas. They looked good but it was late and I had to drive home. A great nighttime stop after a Guardians game. Super friendly staff...we meant to get a few beers and leave. We ended up getting masterful margaritas, in addition to ice cold beers, and delicious tacos. Neat bar and dining room with cool lighting. Of note, while we were there, a drunken patron tried to start a fight with the staff, and the staff and manager handled it like professional negotiators. Well done. We came in kind of late, but were greeted kindly and sat promptly. Our server was kind and attentive, refilling water and ensuring we had everything we needed. One word to describe this place: inconsistent. I've been here a few times. In the past, it was fine, the food was decent, and the service depended on the day. Today, though, was a clear miss. Our server seemed aloof and uninterested. It took far too long to get our drinks, and refills were delayed or forgotten. There was no real follow-up throughout our visit. Unfortunately, both the food and drinks were mediocre. With so many solid options in Downtown, it's hard to recommend this place when consistency is such a problem. AMBIANCE -- There are neon lights and signs all throughout the restaurant which creates an inviting and fun atmosphere. FOOD -- I ordered the Al Pastor Tacos which are 3 tacos with pork, mango, pico de gallo, cilantro, and tomatillo sauce with a side of cheese fries. I got my tacos without onions. I don't like cheese that much so I ate around the cheese fries and I tried not to eat too much cheese but the fries were still nice and crispy. The tacos tasted good but I did not like the tortilla as much because I didn't know it would be a bitter kind although it was a soft shell. I prefer the plain flour tortilla's. Their menu is large so I'm sure you'll find something that you like. Besides tacos, they offer burrito bowls, appetizers such as empanadas and wings, and they have a vegetarian menu. DRINKS -- I don't drink alcohol but there is a bar that sells all sorts of drinks so you will find something that you like. A crowd started to form after 6:30pm so it was nice to see the restaurant packed. Customer service was friendly and efficient. Like many other reviewers, we stepped in right before a show at Playhouse Square. First off, the service was INCREDIBLY fast. We got seated, given our free chips and salsa, and our orders taken within 5 minutes. They have a fairly limited vegetarian menu (tacos, enchiladas, and fajitas). I ordered the tacos tropical--I will say I wished the vegetables were a tad less cheesy and more seasoned, but they did the trick. This was my 1st time here and I will not be coming back. Service was below average and I came around 2pm on a Monday so it was not busy at all. I ordered the 1942 fries and my wife ordered the asada fries. Our fries were basically burnt. My 2 kids ordered the Birria tacos which they liked but sauces lives/lemons were taking forever to be brought out so we all just basically sitting there waiting to eat. We never received any refill on our drinks until the next waiter came out and checked on us for me to ask him. Good food! I would recommend this place, at least for takeout. It was SUPER fast and tastes good. To get an entree through doordash was about $13 (+tip) so for a delivered lunch in downtown Cleveland I thought that was pretty good pricing. I decided to eat here before attending a show at Playhouse Square since it was close by. It was not too crowded when I first arrived but started to become packed not long after. We started off with free chips and salsa, which came out really fast along with the drinks. The mango margarita was good; however, I ordered it on the rocks and it came out frozen. For my meal, I ordered shrimp tacos with rice and beans. This time I had to wait a while for the food to come out. I enjoyed the tacos and the toppings that it came with. First of all, Claudine, our server, was friendly and expeditious. Our party of four had tacos, street corn, and margaritas. Everything was top-notch. Anyone who said the service is slow must have been in a hurry-we we're pleased with how quickly everything came out. We also loved the decor! The ambiance was great inside. My friend and I were looking for a place near playhouse square and saw this restaurant and thought we would try it out! Considering there was a Browns game, a Guardians game, and the show all at the same time the place was able to sit us down rather quickly! I ordered the steak taco salad. It was fine at first but turned out to be quite a bit of food and after a while my tastebuds just lost interest. So apparently this restaurant wants to be just like a gas station. They now charge a convenience fee if you choose to use a credit card of any kind. The food was OK, my black beans were so over salted. I could not eat them. I had pork tacos, and they were extremely greasy, but very flavorful. The salsa and chips were on the blander side. The servers were nice but service was really slow --from the ordering to receiving the check.
