The owner is from Colombia, and there's a beautiful portrait in the shop representing coffee from her family's farms, which adds such a personal and meaningful touch. BLUF: Lots of kinks in customer service and operations need to be worked out. Food was ok. Coffee itself was rather acidic but espresso drinks with all the extras added were more appealing. Cute shop but service negatively affected the overall experience. Walking in, we liked the vibe. The place is tight on space and it gets very busy and crowded on weekends. This coffeehouse has potential, but they're not showing their best right now. Bait and switch: Based on their menu, we did not at all receive what we were anticipating. It sounded so delicious on the menu. However, what we got was not what was posted and not one of the staff told us that they were out of what we ordered. Not at the time of ordering, not while we waited forever to get our food, not when the food finally came out. Some food was brought to us, some sat out on the counter forever (because the buzzers don't work) where other customers picked up their orders. Who knows how much spit ended up on the food! We kept munching and kept thinking something is missing. We looked under the bread and didn't see what was stated on the menu so we finally asked and were told they were out of what we ordered. Absolutely unacceptable but useless at this point after waiting 20+ minutes for sandwiches and beverages and being faced by someone extremely unapologetic and unmotivated to correct the situation. So, prices definitely not worth what you get here. Hit or miss in terms of food and beverages for both quality and taste. Disappointing that the coffee was so sour and bitter tasting. Hoping for a nice smooth cup. Everything we ordered and customer service received here...unreliable at best. Worth the drive? Nope. If in the immediate area and needing caffeine, maybe, but definitely not worth going out of your way. Parking tight on the weekends. Was so hoping to love this place because we need more independent warm, cozy, welcoming coffeehouses. But service, food, coffee at this point were all very disappointing. Nice local place to just relax with a yummy coffee of your choice. I like their lattes. They also have breakfast and lunch options like avocado toast or an egg, bacon and cheese croissant. They also have some nice desserts. You just order at the counter and find a place to sit. I see a few people with laptops, Grandmas with a child, friends who are just chatting, etc. It is a comfortable place to visit and very clean too. Enjoy! read more

Big fan, wish I had found 1971 sooner! This coffee shop has a very relaxed yet somehow sophisticated vibe to it. I enjoyed the laid back music, the long layout, and the variety of seating - among the many tables are a comfy couch and armchairs, and a longer table tucked away in the corner that is perfect for studying or working. They also have a couple small tables outside. There are many great sounding food and drink options - it's tough to go wrong! I tried the pan de bono (and took several home), almond cake, and an iced pistachio latte. Everything was outstanding and beautiful to boot. Service was so nice. Found a great little coffee stop in Haymarket, near Gainesville, Virginia along US 66. It is 1971 Coffee Shop. It is in a multi-story brick building that has a number of small businesses inside. 1971 is on the ground floor. 1971 is the year the company was founded by Eliana Uribe who wanted to bring the flavor of real Colombian Coffee to the area. The roast it in what they refer to as a traditional Colombian fashion. My wife tried a matcha green tea latte. She is particular and prefers the powder not a pre-mix, and at 1971 they do use matcha powder which is unsweetened. That way you can request added sweet like simple syrup at the amount you prefer. She requested extra hot, and it came as ordered. It was a nicely balanced matcha latte and it was extra hot. She liked it a lot. I had a standard latte, as always, with 2% milk. I got a lovely, creamy latte that was just the right mix, so the richness of the coffee roast came through. Their coffee is full bodied, but without any bitterness or acidity notes. We will go back. 1971 serves nicely crafted coffee drinks and check out their special menu as it is loaded with seasonal options. read more

On my visit, I was the last person they served and I honestly felt really bad. It was about thirty minutes to closing but I wanted something warm to drink as it was cold. The person who was working at the counter was really nice and said I could stay for a bit if I was there past closing. Inside is a spacious area with cute chairs and small tables to sit down at. It's very calm and relaxing! I got a Matcha Latte and a Strawberry Flan Cake and I gotta say, the barista who made my Matcha drink; this is perfection! The latte art is perfect from what I've seen and I've never been so delighted to drink this. The Strawberry Flan Cake is pretty good too! It's not too sweet but paired with the Matcha Latte, it balances it self out! I would come back here but it is a bit far out. It's a little easy to miss - you need to turn onto a side street and then enter the parking lot. The place has been open about 6 weeks or so (I asked since I live in Prince William County and drive by this building almost every day - and did not notice the coffee shop until this morning). The Barista's are professional, they are very knowledgeable about where their beans come from in Colombia. I started my morning with the espresso and pandebono with guava. The coffee bean left a beautiful taste on the back of my tongue. The pandebono takes me back to Colombia. My next adventure was a black coffee with A Thousand Leafs. I love my coffee black so that you can taste the flavor of the beans. The thousand leafs was flaky, the Carmel was not to sweet and the filling was creamy. So delightful! This cafe is cute with sophisticated vibes and the ladies behind the counter were helpful when asking questions about their food and drink options. My friend and I both ordered the banana bread latte. Hers was hot and mine was iced. They only came in one size. I asked for almond milk--which was an extra $1, and my drink alone was $8-$9. The drink wasn't even full; it was literally 1/2 to 2/3 full with zero flavor. The almond cake was alright, but for anyone who has to be gluten free, just be aware that the GF almond cake is baked with everything else. My friend enjoyed her dulce de leche roll, her hot latte was filled to the brim, and she enjoyed hers. Although, she couldn't really taste the banana bread syrup either. I asked the server and they didn't know why the extra percent. I paid in cash in case it was a credit card fee. Been a couple of times now! The environment is very cute with nice ambiance. It's nice that they have a mix of coffee, cocktails, and small pastries. It has a similar vibe to Trummer's in Gainesville. Trummer's seems more like a bar/restaurant with coffee, whereas 1971 seems more like a coffee shop with a few drink offerings. The coffee, though, is really expensive for what it is- two iced lattes will run you about $18. The lattes do not have a strong espresso flavor. The cold brew is better than the lattes but I believe a cold brew (plain) is $9. There is also a limited selection of food. Service was good! read more
