They go the extra mile to try and get a property sold and do their best to remain good humoured even in a difficult property market. They have recently added a lettings department to their business which seems to be doing well. They mainly deal with properties in Barry and Barry Island, but occasionally have some houses in other parts of the Vale of Glamorgan. Their fees are similar to their competitors and the location of their offices makes them very visible to potential customers.

I was recently helping a friend find a new place of residence, and was fortunate enough to tumble with her into this place. The welcome was warm and congenial, and right form the off, despite making it clear we we only making vague enquiries, we both felt as though we were being valued as people, rather than just customers. Okay, I'm not really a massive fan of estate agents, because I'm always highly aware of them after hearing all the horror stories. Neither have I really had all that much experience with them as I'm not yet hopping up the property ladder. This place has got an excellent local reputation and there really are some lovely properties on their books, so they're most certainly worth checking out if you're after a property around the Penarth and Cardiff area.

Michael Jones & Co. provide a number of services including property sale and valuations as well as offering a lettings service. It is for the latter that I know them. I registered with Michael Jones & Co. on-line when I was looking to move over a year ago. The form I completed was pretty exhaustive, but was quick to complete as all I had to do was provide contact details and tick a few boxes. I didn't end up renting through Michael Jones & Co. but I was pretty impressed by the level of service. They sent me information on several rented properties that they had on their books, all of which were appropriate to my needs. Updates were regular, but not excessive. I would have been happy to commit to renting through them had I not found an ideal place through a friend in the end.

The house was filthy wen we…read moremoved in - had to scrub everything, especially the kitchen down, despite it being a condition of us moving in, that they clean the house. There was also a socket hanging off the wall, which we had to ask them to re-fix, a health and safety issue hat they actually put on the inventory! The freezer drawers were jagged and broken, another h & s issue that we phoned up about several times and ended up having to take them directly to the agency for them to agree to replace them. They couldn't as there was no serial number on the fridge freezer. There was lots of rubbish left in both the front & back gardens, which we had to ask to be removed. The contractors only removed some of it and when we asked them to come back, the receptionist was rude and arrogant, suggesting we'd left it there. We had to threaten photos from when we'd moved in along with environmental health before they'd send out more contractors. They tried to get contractors to go in with a key without us being there and let themselves in to do a viewing without us there, even though we'd agreed to be there to let them in 5 minutes later! This is classed as trespassing, by the way. We never got a formal apology for this, the reaction was 'none of our other tenants have ever complained'! Probably because they don't know their rights! The receptionist was always rude and arrogant towards us and once Jenny Jones realised we weren't going to take any c*ap from them (I do know my tenant rights as a housing officer) she was also quite rude. We left the house spotless, but on inspection, Jenny wouldn't acknowledge this at all. It was just as well we'd kept accurate photos of when we'd moved in, or it would have been much harder to get our deposit back.

With David Baker himself an expert estate agent, his unrivaled local knowledge gives him the edge over all other local competitors. The shop itself is located conveniently next to Penarth's main train station, with parking usually available right on the doorstep. Inside, all the local properties available for purchase or rent are displayed clearly, with very useful and informative descriptions given for each. Customers are encouraged to browse, whilst expert advise is always on hand should more guidance be required. The employees are very friendly and are keen to assist you in any way possible. As it's a call centre, the job is either for you or it isn't and unfortunately, speaking to customers on the phone all day was not something I enjoyed at all. Mainly because I find it so difficult to be nice to rude people for a protracted length of time. The building itself is relatively modern and attractive, being built in 2000. Inside there are 4 floors housing everything from customer services and sales to the hub for the AA driving school. They have a very good training scheme at the AA, lasting about about 2 months and for which you receive a certificate approved by the Chartered Institute of Insurers (or something,,,). You hear horror stories about call centres immediately plunging you in at the deep end, with an irate, shouting customer on one end of the phone and you, a quivering, inexperienced wreck, on the the other. That's not the case here though. After your classroom based training (for which you still receive full pay), you are placed on a section called the "Grad Bay" for a couple of weeks. Here there are coaches assigned to each person giving you tips and help in general if you need it. By the time you actually get put into your team, you feel like a seasoned pro. I can't fault the AA as an employer at all. They have a very good bonus structure and realistic targets. The managers and everyone I worked with were all easy to get along with too and, although there is a certain amount of pressure involved (as your sales are targeted) I still think they do their best to keep a fun atmosphere around the place. All that being said though, and as nice as the people were, it is a very repetitive job, dealing with the same queries over and over. If you get bored easily, as I do, then I would avoid!
