    Curry Chicken

This place was recommended to me by a coworker and then I saw several people recommending it on a Facebook food review page so I was exited about finally trying it out. Well I can say I was very, very disappointed. The portion size is large and the sauce to meat ratio is perfect. Other than that, the food is not good. I don't understand how all three dishes we ordered basically tasted the same. We ordered the Chicken Curry, Butter Chicken and Chicken Vindaloo and there wasn't a huge contrast in flavor. They all were lacking something, so bland and flavorless. The texture of the sauces wasn't smooth and creamy like other Indian restaurants. And the chicken in the Butter Chicken dish was like crunchy, like not fresh chicken. We had a lot of food left over and days later it's still there. No one wanted to even eat it. Gave it a try but won't go back.

So happy to have a local , low key Indian take out near me. I miss the buffets ( now closed) in Exton/Malvern and all the home style cooking in Norristown/Oaks. The 3 Indian restaurants in the Ardmore /Bryn Mawr are are good but I like more home style food.First time trying - I ordered goat byriani with side of Raita and rasmalai for desert, and small mint chutney. There's free parking lane in front of the stores but it's really tight in space- safer than parking on the busy main road. They take charge but there's a 4% surcharge. I get it - the transaction fees for the vendor- but inconvenient. Food was ready in 15 min and hot. I asked for medium spice and the goat was tender and rice flavorful. The raita was the usual yogurt with cucumber onion and carrots. Watch out for bone attached to the goat meat. I'm use to that as that's how it's traditionally made. $18 was a bit steep for carry out but I also understand the spices and goat, prep are pricey. The service portion is enough to last me 3 meals! Not as good as my friends byriani but I love it for takeout and it's owned by a family. Rasmalai was good- cooled my palate and sweet treat. Nice touch: paper plate was included so I could eat it on the go. Giving it 4 stars since I just tried 1 entree. I will be back to try more. Next on my list: chicken 65. And samosa chaat! FYI - this place is northern Indian food so they have Halal meats. Spices are little different than South Indian. I love both regional cooking!

Having lived in UCity for 4 years, my Indian taste palette has been dominated with New Delhi, Ekta, and Sitar. Moving out to the suburbs made me a little nervous to try something new but saw great reviews of 1st Indian Kitchen and decided to take the leap of faith. I was not disappointed. Portions were large - easily 2 meals - and the butter chicken had so much chicken we were so surprised! We ordered vegetable samosa, saag paneer and chicken makhani. Saag paneer is the green spinach dish, paneer is the cheese cubes; chicken makhani = butter chicken. Veggie samosa had a lot of peppercorns so it was spicier than I wanted, my husband and I joked that we would be OK if they just gave us fried samosa skin xD But actually. Saag paneer and chicken makhani were VERY good. I'm lactose sensitive - not intolerant - but it didn't give me any stomach issues and it tasted very similar to New Delhi. This is definitely our go-to Indian place from now on. Compared to Saffron (hellaaaa more expensive, the same butter chicken was $17 and I heard it's watery) and Tiffin (their saag paneer is really watered down / not seasoned well) 1st Indian Kitchen is no frills. There's even a tiny parking lot area you can pull up since located along West Chester Pike. Convenient, great prices, efficient customer service, on-time service (we called in our order and it was ready when they said which was 20-30 mins). There is some seating area but very no frills, would honestly say that order take out is probably better (very fast-casual esque) Can't wait to order again!

    5. Samosa Chaat -it is so tasty!! I love it

Wow! I just recently stumbled upon this place. I already went 3 times and this will be my go-to Indian takeout in Delco. I am vegetarian and they have a lot of good options for my diet. My partner eats meat and loves it as well. We both love Indian food! Indian food is our favorite! They are careful to cater to your spice tolerance. So give it a try!!

Seriously delish Indian food. For me, it's been one of the best Indian food I've had and I'm just so glad it's near me.

The food here is delicious and the people are friendly. It's family owned and feels like the recipes are from a mom's kitchen.

So we drove to Saffron Kitchen, thinking our chances were better. I like the ambience of Saffron. While my favorite Indian restaurant is a hole-in-the wall a few miles away, I was happy to be here. A waiter handed us menus that didn't include the prix-fixe dinner we came in for. "We have October specials. That's it," he said. "Nope, please check with the manager," I responded. And I was right. (Anyone coming in through October 25th might request the Restaurant Week menu, which may -- or may not -- be of interest.) The prix-fixe is $30 per person. Dinner was great, with leftovers enough for another meal. The appetizer was my favorite part. We each got a plate with a succulent chicken kabob and what's called 'aloo tikki.' (Was it potato? It was delicious.) There's a choice of four entrees, two being vegetarian. I chose chicken bhuna cooked with onions, green peppers, tomatoes, ginger, and garlic in a light curry. My husband ordered chicken tikka masala in a creamy, spicy tomato sauce. I thought his was better than mine. The plates came with basmati rice and a choice of either butter or garlic naan. You're given badami kheer, an Indian spin on rice pudding, for dessert. It's very good. I noticed there's a small lot to the side of the building, but nonetheless street parking is readily available. Saturday night Saffron had a steady stream of customers, many bringing their own wine. I'm happy to see they remain a byob sans corkage fee.

HOWEVER I thought they did a stellar job with sauce, which is what brought us back. I went with my second favorite dish, chicken korma. The sauce was great, the chicken a bit dry. Deviating from his usual vindaloo, T lived in the fast lane (ha!) and ordered lamb roganjosh. The sauce was excellent, described in the menu as "yogurt, onions, ginger and garlic in a traditional curry" but there's the unmistakable addition of cinnamon. And it works! Our appetizer, tangy eggplant, was crisp and spicy with a portion large enough to feed four as a starter. What made the evening notable were four delightful octogenarians seated next to us. I was tasked with the awesome responsibility of guiding them through the menu. My recommendations luckily were well received. The restaurant was practically empty Saturday evening. "I guess the waitress is too busy to come over," one of our new friends said sarcastically. Which brings me to the help. Our server, the same person we had last time, is noticeably timid, hesitant to effectively interact with her customers. The neighboring table agreed and continued to wait patiently. Nirvana is still considered a byob, though they may actually serve alcohol. In any case, they now impose a $10 corkage fee, when before they charged nothing.
