I've visited this place frequently and have never had a bad experience. The people are friendly, the staff goes out of their way to serve you even though you can order at the front and seat yourself. They treat you as tho you're at a full service restaurant and offer a variety of dishes and great healthy options. My favorite is their soups and salads. Most visits have been during the day for lunch but I also have joined for dinner. The wine selection is also a great reason to visit this place. Their house 208 Rosé has become a favorite of mine, and they offer it by the glass or bottle. You also can purchase bottles from the variety of stock they keep at the store front. I wish I had some of the staffs names because they all deserve recognition for their impeccable people skills. We don't live far (4 min drive) so we do plan to keep this on our list of favorites. I liked this place so much that I came back the next day! If you want good italian-inspired food (sandwiches, soup, salad), coffee or wine at an excellent price, this is the place to go. It is perfect for a quick date, a meeting with friends, or for studying for 4 hours. All day happy hour sat and sun means prices are incredibly low. I stayed for 4 hours two days in a row to get some work done and the staff was great about checking up on me just enough without being overbearing. It is moderate noisiness with background music and some people (not a lot of people this weekend - I think perhaps PLU is out for summer break). What I was most impressed by throughout various dishes was the bread. The bread they use as a side for soup or salad, or on the sandwich - it is crusty on the outside, chewy and soft on the inside, and they serve it drizzled with a fragrant olive oil. Delicious! The caesar salad is generously topped with a hard cheese (I think parm) and crispy prosciutto chips. Pomodoro soup is full of hearty tomato chunks and bread pieces. Grilled cheese with sweet onions was super gooey inside and crisp outside. The white bean dip and bread pudding are also delicious for snacking. Lavender ice cream is 3 scoops of amazingly fragrant, strong lavender flavor. Weekend and HH drink specials mean a glass of wine is 5$. Rose is light and delicious. The chai latte is soso. Went in today about noon, it was busy but there were at least 2 open tables. I was by myself & I had about a 10 minute wait before ordering. I ordered only because I asked the waiter helping the people in front of me if I could order. Seems he thought someone else was helping me. I placed my order, and waited. My drink arrived & the waiter asked if I'd like a straw, I told him yes. The straw never arrived so I got one myself. I continued to wait for my food... after almost waiting an hour for my food, I asked my waiter after helping someone else when my food might arrive. He was visibly surprised it hasn't been delivered & checked on my order. He apologized and gave me a free cookie and shared somehow my order never made it to the cooks. He said my order would be out in about 5 minutes, and it was - it was delicious. I love the food at 208 but have never had good service. At the next table Sat the current football coach from PLU who kept getting lots of visitors at his table and decent attention from staff. I was disappointed and felt pretty invisible with the lack of follow through after ordering. I do appreciate the help from the waiter when I met him know but I've never been able to go to the 208 & feel confident that I'll be helped & have time to eat to make an appointment if I have somewhere to go after eating there. In other words I only go there if I know I have a few hours free, and this makes me sad, because otherwise I'd go more often. read more

This place is not your regular coffee shop since it does sell wine or beer which is a good place to just relax. I came here to study and do homework. The noise level isn't as bad. Just average so you can focus. Food was delicious! There's a happy hour menu for selected foods and drinks so that's a plus. I got a Italian grilled cheese and they put sweet onion in it which was a good add on! The employees are very friendly, they come to your table to drop off the food which was nice. You can order at the counter; or at dinner time, they'll come to you at the table. They offer long tables for larger groups, outlets for your laptop, and free wifi. Plus, they have some yummy HH options. They don't rush you to get out nor pressure you to order more (though I always do) and it's a very relaxed environment. Wow, I'm so impressed! We went here for happy hour today and it was outstanding. The wine selection on tap is incredible...and then there is the happy hour food. You get large servings of wonderful, fresh, local delicious fare. We actually ordered one of everything on the happy hour menu. My favorite was the Smashed Potato with Cambozola and Olive Oil. Pure genius! And all plates were just $4 each! Of course we also had to have dessert. The bread pudding bites were to die for with the chocolate and caramel sauce. We had one of everything on the happy hour menu and 5 glasses of wine, 2 coffees, 2 desserts and the bill came to just under $60 for all of that! But here's the best part...it's owned by PLU and profits go to benefit their various scholarship funds. Employees are students who change each quarter. Imagine being able to do your work study in this environment! Also many of the vendors are PLU graduates who own local farms, companies, etc. Service was top notch, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable with the wines and cheeses. This is a really hard review for me to make because I absolutely loved this place until today. I normally dine in with my daughter pretty regularly. We loved the staff and food, this was my first time experiencing anything like this. Yesterday I made a pick up order and ended up locking myself out of my house, so I had to cancel my order. Today I ordered from 208 Garfield off ubereats. There is no option for the white beanie starter so I ordered chips and asked for a side of it and to be charged extra. I called the store just to make sure and they said they could not do that (Even though on Uber, it states that you will be charged for any extras in the notes.) They stated I could place a new order because they just added on the starter after they received my order but would not give me spread or charge for it. So I asked for them to cancel my order since I didn't want the chips by themselves. They said they would, but didn't. Once my driver showed up he ended up paying for it, which made my day. When he came to deliver it he said that the older Hispanic woman had a nasty attitude and was talking bad about me. Talking about how yesterday I locked my keys in my car and having a grouchy attitude. I could not believe the employees were talking about me to the public. How unprofessional and honestly mean. I called to talk to a manager. A girl said the manager was not available and didn't know when they would be. I told her my whole situation, and stated that she probably knew about it since I had been talked about. She gave me her apologies and said she would talk to the manager but did not ask for my number or any contact info. I feel very devalued as a customer and disrespected. If you are looking for a nice place for breakfast or a nice brunch/lunch cafe, this is the place for you. I have been coming here every year since my first year at PLU. There are a lot of PLU professors, faculty, and students who eat here. On an average day you will see people here studying, having conversation, or just having lunch. My favorite food here is their BLT salad. I LOVE them and they have a paleo option as well. Sometimes I get a sandwich, but 9/10 times I'll get that salad. It's so good! They also have great drinks. I like the Lavender Dry Soda. YUM! I have never been disappointed coming here. The staff is really great and they start to remember you the more you come in. Almost employees are students which makes it very easy to come in and sit down. They are a little spendy but totally worth it. I sometimes as for a gift card here for my birthday or a holiday. The atmosphere is nice. It has that rustic chic look which is open to those who are in business attire and still comfortable with clients in casual clothing. I think it's a little confusing if you're new and it's your first time in the restaurant because if you want to eat in you seat yourself and if you take it to go you go up to the counter. I wanted to eat in but there was no one at the register so I wasn't sure anyone saw me come in and so I didn't want to sit unless I knew I would get service. There was a sign that said if you want to dine in you can sit anywhere and if you want to take it to go, just go up to the register. So you think it would be clear, but there was a bell on the counter for service which tells me that they don't always pay attention to when someone comes in or not. This is why they get 4/5 stars because I don't think this is as clear as they try to make it to be. But once the server noticed me she was very friendly, took my order and walked me through their menu. They have vegetarian and vegan options, as well as some delicacies (pork belly) I haven't seen around this area before. I got a tomato mozzarella panini because that sounded delicious. It came with a side salad. I asked if they had Iced tea and they said they could make any of their hots teas iced. I got regular black tea which was delightful (on another visit I got the pot of earl grey which was delicious). The sandwich seemed like half a portion with a small side salad. The pesto was nice on the sandwich but I feel like there could have been more garlic. I won't knock any stars off because I love garlic so I'm a bit biased. I'm sure it's the perfect amount for those non-garlic lovers. The salad had a balsamic dressing that was a little sweet and thick compared to a normal balsamic. It balanced out well with the sandwich. I also got a blueberry muffin because it was my first time here and I wanted to try a little bit of everything. The muffin was brought heated up with butter to spread on it. It was divine! I couldn't finish it all because I had eaten my fill, but I saved it for later because it was that good. Three people behind the counter and only one would even acknowledge our presence, telling us someone would be right with us. We stood at the counter for at least five minutes trying to catch the eye of the two other people who seemed available to communicate, since one of them was milling around seemingly looking for things to do. Neither would so much as look our way let alone smile or greet us. Finally, the first woman, who was actually busy making coffees, offered to take our order but warned us that it would take at least 20 minutes (we were going to get a scone that was in the case, and had a question about one of the sandwiches on the menu, but she had not even let us speak yet). There were maybe a half dozen patrons sitting in the restaurant at the time and it was by no means busy. The majority of the restaurant was empty at noon on a Saturday. read more

The pricing is fair for the type of cuisine offered and the presentation makes every dish very Insta-worthy. The produce is fresh and the overall food quality exceeded our expectations. Cons: The space is a bit small, so be prepared to feel a little cramped. The menu can be a little overwhelming for first-time customers. We dined on appetizers including their holiday Scandinavia cheese platter and a white bean garlic dip. The meal itself was good and if not for the service I would return. The gentleman working that night was super friendly, directed us toward a table as soon as we walked in, and immediately brought us water. We ordered: Yellow split pea soup Caesar Salad with Pecorino Toscano and Prosciutto Chips Bresaola with Parmigiano Reggiano and Fresh Lemon Slow Roasted Crown S Pork Belly with Brown Sugar Glaze, Pickled Mustard Seeds and Shaved Fennel Salad Beet Salad with Arugula and Samish Bay Ladysmith Cheese Meat plate (Bresaola, salami smoked paprika, wild boar) Pot of sencha Japanese green tea A few minutes after ordering, our server came back and advised they were out of the Bresaola. No problem. Went with the salami porcini instead. What all we did receive was tasty; the yellow split pea soup stood out for me while the friend enjoyed mostly the pork belly. We never received the beet salad or the pot of tea. Where 208 Garfield failed additionally was in the service itself. After bringing the food out, our server never gave us another glance. When we were through eating, about 10 minutes went by and then the presumed manager came over and cleared about half of our empty plates (we were obviously completely finished). Another 10 minutes went by before a different server who was in the middle of prepping another party's food glanced over and decided to come clear the rest. Yet another 10 minutes went by (no one even attempted to refill our empty water glasses) before I managed to catch the manager's eye and wave her down so we could finally pay and leave. So yeah, around 30 minutes total to get our check. The ambiance is nice; the food, in general, is nothing special; and basically, the service is slow and kind of sucks. I've been here a few times & we have never paid first but I guess things have changed. We sat for 5 minutes waiting then stood at the counter and rang their bell for another 6 before anyone came from the back area too take our order (one person was fixing something while the other 4 associates watched). The food came out 10 minutes later. We both got the blt salad which was actually really good. I would have given 4 stars but the customer service was horrible.
