I do admit there are a few gospel moments and some more obscure jazzy/vocalists numbers that aren't for me, but overall, the programming keeps me on my musical toes and bopping my head. The song selection is so unexpected and diverse that the other day my husband exclaimed, "This is like listening to satellite radio!" When a station makes you smile, you've found your preferred frequency. I am usually all grins when I tune in to 88.1. In addition to the tunes, I love the hyper-local focus of Power 88. I was driving around town the other day, and I heard them talking about the current top albums. How did they decide on the top albums? Did they consult Billboard? Uh-uh. They called up local record spot Sight & Sounds (I believe) and asked them what was selling! If I may say so, that is keeping it real. The whole vibe of the station is truly old school. Combine that with some classic jams I love to hear, and I've found myself a true gem in a land of Top 40 programming.

I've been listening to this station for many, many years. It's one of the few stations that has…read morelasted, besides 98.5 but I don't listen to that station anymore. The music is alternative/mix format- Nickelback, Lifehouse, Sara Bareilles, Maroon 5 (one of my favorites), Katy Perry (another favorite of mine), Train, Pink, Rob Thomas, etc. Sometimes I will hear Carrie Underwood. Yes, at times, it seems that the same play list is used over and over, but you can always change the station for more variety (you do have that choice.) I am lucky enough to have XM as a choice at my workplace, so if I want early alternative (one of the music types I grew up with) called 'New Wave' I can listen to it, whenever I want. I really enjoy the "Mark & Mercedes in the morning" show (weekdays/ weekends play repeats, sometimes). I've been a fan for all these years. The topics of conversation are thought-provoking as well as being funny and entertaining- kinda like one of my favorite shows of all time "Sex & The City." I like the witty banter of two people that seem down to earth and I can relate to their point of views. Enter their verbage: the BOD (wink wink nudge nudge- if you're a true fan, you'd know it.) They bounce off of each other, is what I mean. I saw Mercedes pose for pictures at the last Bite, and she seemed so nice, not snotty at all- I like that. When listeners call in, it adds another dimension to the show. I've called in a few times myself. It's a funny show and I enjoy it. I am, however, growing tired of JC's never- ending commercials for laser hair removal- I mean, c'mon already! He's like the Glen Lerner of/in radio. And the delivery is a little like wooden skates, not natural at all. Blair adds the youthful perspective, as she is the youngest contributor to the show, though she sounds more tattooed than the average person/listener. There are so many events that they sponsor that I enjoy going to, like Pet-A-Palooza & Bite of Las Vegas. Both venues encourage drives to benefit the community (nonperishable canned foods to donate). The station also does a Four Corners Food Drive every year. The station is an asset to our community- our community is better with all their efforts and contributions.

I could daydream a few thoughts and sing along to Adel like nobody's watching, but soon I am compelled to tune in KNPR 88.9 FM....often trying to catch Fresh Air hosted by Terry Gross. She interviews everyone from comedians to politicians....all types of lives matter to us. Her gift is gently opening interviewees hearts without force-to the level often they didn't even intend to do so on public radio. They have a great line-up programs, including but not limited to: Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, Ted Talk, and All Things Considered. Because they are commercial free and member supported radio station, they have non-biased opinions delivering the facts and allowing you to draw your own conclusions. In this society, we are over-stimulated with lots of media but check this geeky station out and enrich your stand in this world.

She has been unable to increase membership significantly in the last five years. Despite great economic recovery in the greater Las Vegas area and increase in population, she incompetently hobbles along, unable to significantly increase membership. The station is too indigent to present interesting programming such as "The News Hour" and relies instead on cheaper local "filler" programs. The pledge drives are long, obnoxious, incessant and apparently unsuccessful. Ms. Rodgers has done a terrible job and has created a terrible product. She is too arrogant to acknowledge her incompetency. I stream KQUED from the San Francisco Bay Area. What a relief to listen to competent, interesting programming. Rodgers needs resign her position with KNPR immediately and to return to her home country, The Isle of Mann. INCOMPETENT!!!!!!!

Boasting commercial free music in the morning, for 100 plus minutes (hope that doesn't change). I switch channels because I hate commercials on the radio and also, the type of music depends on my mood too. But I also play my CDs too BTW. Some of the artists on the play list: Far East Movement, the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Kesha, Nelly, Pink, Beyonce, Daughtry- and so many more.
