Not bad, not great. It's a big restaurant with a decent ambience, but it's definitely overpriced. We went for drinks and apps, but I noticed the drink menus didn't have prices. I looked at the food menu and saw most entrees were pretty pricey, so I imagine the cocktails are overpriced too. We stuck to beers, and ordered the Mediterranean flatbread, which was like a super thin crust pizza. Pretty decent. Nothing stood out as being negative about this experience, but for the same amount of money I'd choose to go somewhere nicer. read more

What I had was very good, but a little overpriced. Everything was a little overpriced... That being said, the service I received from my server and the bartender was great. It is very, very hard to find average service these days let alone good service. Any resemblance of services seems to have been lost, so guess you have to pay a little more to find it. $22-$25 for a cheeseburger, $19 for a salad, $22 for a Mac and cheese. I used to eat here once in a while, but won't be back until they lower the outrageous prices. No thank you. The food is not even good. Wait staff has usually been attentive, but prices are through the roof. A burger and salad at The Savoy Grill (fancy place in KC) will run you quite a bit less than the new prices here. read more

Update: I've now been back two more times and have had excellent service. Check out their happy hour for cheap beer and the Turkey Stromboli is awesome! I loved that when my fiancé and I said we were going to split it that they brought it out on two separate plates. It's little things like that that will add up to great service and a happy customer. The last 3 orders have had items missing or were the wrong item and I just sat in my car for 27 minutes after indicating "I'm here" with their curbside pickup website only to go inside and find that my food was getting cold on the bar. I have never had a bad meal here. I have also never had a fantastic, out of this world meal here, either. It's the type of meal where you are truly enjoying it and it tastes good. When you finish you wonder why you don't come here more often. When you get home you don't think of it again. It's not the goodness that lingers. My favorite dish is the fish and chips. They do a great job on this yummy meal. The salads are good, too. Very good. I have also liked the burgers and sandwiches I've tried here. The serving sizes are just right and not skimpy. Everything is fresh and delicious. I have a natural skepticism of any restaurant that tries to be everything to everyone. When the menu gets too varied and large, I get concerned. There is no way to do everything good so why not just focus on what you do best? 23rd Street Brewery serves pizzas, calzones, pastas, salads, burgers, fish plus desserts, appetizers, sides and light fare. I have only scratched the menu on the wide variety they serve. I can't help thinking, though, that they are over extending just a bit. I love the fact they are open to midnight every night. I also like that they have busses that run regularly to KU football and basketball games for free. What a great service. Many items on the menu are named for local celebrities and I think that is very cool. Warning, though, that this place gets packed and especially in game days. The noise level can be a distraction to table conversation. This is not a laid back sports bar. It's a sports bar on PED's. Good service, reasonable prices and good food. Excellent service, good food, but the beer wasn't great. The Irish red was flat. Raspberry wheat had no raspberry flavor/aroma at all. Food was good but not great. I ordered the salmon, which was a huge portion, and came swimming in sauce. Both salmon and sauce were way too salty (and I'm a salt lover!). Mac and cheese was good but a bit bland and way too rich for me. I could only eat a few bites. Husband enjoyed his burger. Kids enjoyed their pasta and corn dogs. Standard frozen fries. Strangely enough, the best thing I ate was my side salad. It was super fresh and crunchy, and the rice wine vinaigrette was delicious! I'm not sure if it's under new management or what but in the past this place has been pretty solid when it came to food and service. We ordered pickup and part of the order was incorrect. Fine these things happen, emphasize with how difficult their job is. We called back and they said they would correct the order and it would be ready when we arrived. We arrive and the person told me they needed to confirm (a third time at least) before putting in the order. It was obvious that they forgot or felt they had more important things to do and was lying straight to my face. I obviously lose it as anyone would at this point, ask for the manager, express my displeasure and left. I don't have hours to spend on just trying to eat, the whole point of to go is that is easy and you don't have to cook. The manager just feed me the usual BS lines about making it right not understanding that you already screwed up twice and it's still not right. He didn't get that waiting around again was not an option. I just left at this point. Given that the person on the phone indicated it would be ready when I arrived, I never crossed my mind that I would have to call a second time and reconfirm. It was clear I was just getting lied to my face to cover for another mistake. I really don't hope this is a trend with this place, it used to be good service. The food is pretty good usually but I wouldn't know from the recent experience because I never got to eat any of it. Visualize how inconsiderate and incompetent the service must have been for me to leave without requesting a refund and to end up going to bed without eating dinner, I would have paid about any amount money at this point for that interaction to end. read more

First experience there was Terrible ! ! Took my family there for an early dinner after moving all day. There was 4 of us and a baby, got there at 3:00pm and there was maybe a handful of folks there. The server ask us for drinks then ordered dinner. We sat for an hour before our food showed up. Not sure what happened either the chef took a nap or the server left the food under a warmer to long. Everyone's food was dried up ! My wife was holding the baby most of the time so she didn't get to eat her Calzone she ordered till we got home. Kind of bummed with my last experience! This has been a Lawrence family fav, so I took my boyfriend here on Monday. We got there at 5, luckily before the pre-game rush. After being seated, we waited 20 minutes for anyone to come to our table. It felt like everyone was avoiding our eye contact which was a bit weird. We started off with the Rock Chalk Raspberry Wheat, which is a MAJOR redeeming factor. Think Blue Moon but with raspberry instead of orange. Might be my favorite beer out there! I then ordered the Schneider Burger, a cheeseburger with green chile, guac, and bacon. Based on the toppings, I was hoping it would be delicious. Instead, it kind of lacked any flavor? The guac was amazing, but other than that it was very very average. My boyfriend got their classic cheeseburger, and he also said it was very very average. Our experience didn't quite live up to what either of us had hoped. We'll definitely be back, but Freestate Brewery has definitely solidified itself as my favorite Lawrence brewery. read more

Never disappoints. This time, we had the Chicken Tenders Caribbean Jerk Seasoning and the "Schutz..." Burger (forgot the name, it's weird). The chicken was delicious and I had the Hazelnut Beer and it was really good. It is a dark beer, looks like a potter, but it is not heavy or bitter, it's like "dessert beer." I have been checking out the gluten free pizzas in our area and this is the top of the line. The basil merges with the chees to make and OMG taste sensation. There are big chunks of chicken also. I think PinStripes Fig pizza is the best gluten free, but this gives it a close run for the money. It was ok, service was ok, food was ok, the beer was great, not amazing but great, the beers we got had to much head on them that they probably qualified more as a foam drink than a beer. It's hard to tell who actually works here though cause most of the people carrying food and drinks were dressed like they got pulled off the street that day. I would of rated higher if it was easier to identify who actually works here. You don't know who to ask for help or who to report an issue to if you have no idea who actually works there. read more

This place has been one of my favorites since coming to Lawrence several years ago. The food is very quality American with a HUGE variety across the menu. They have anything from pizza to burgers to almost any appetizer and so much more. The ambiance is sports bar vibes with lots of seating and a small outdoor section. The food here never disappoints.
