Had a really nice breakfast in this cafe on Main Street in Vergennes, VT. Very extensive menu with food vegan options. You order at the counter and then grab a table. Plenty of room inside and a few tables out front. I had the breakfast tacos with sausage on corn tortillas and they were fantastic. Nice staff and fairly quick service. read more

I've been here about 7 times. I definitely would recommend. Great atmosphere for getting together with family or friends. The baristas are fast as well as the food arriving. I really love coming here for the delicious drinks and food, but the only downside is that sometimes I am disappointed with smaller portions because the quantity is inconsistent. Sometimes it's heftier and sometimes lacking. Side note: please bring back the curry tofu scramble!!! (All of them are great but that one was killer!! A request from multiple ;) ) read more

This restaurant deserves all the stars they get. Very clean. Good service. Great selection on the menu for breakfast and sandwiches. The blueberry lemon pistachio pancakes were amazing. Excellent food, service and atmosphere! We came here with our 7 year old grandson for an early lunch and we all walked away very happy. The menu is varied, with both substantial meat and vegetarian options, many of which were creative and yummy. The portions were very generous without being crazy (I finished it all). The staff are so accommodating! I joked that I am like Sally in "When Harry met Sally". I made lots of modifications with my order and they were not fazed and all and happy to roll with it. The adults had: 1. Reuben sandwich without Thousand Island dressing, on sourdough bread, with undressed greens, salad dressing and mustard on the side. Absolutely delicious!! 2. Vegetarian Reuben sandwich, which sounded great and was enjoyed. 3. Tuna melt The 7 year old had: Hamburger with french fries - child's portion. He can polish off a sizeable amount of food for a kid, but the child's portion was plenty for him. They also have this cool thing that if you take a picture of your time at 3 Square cafe and post via an app they give you the link for, a meal is donated locally. What a great endeavor! 3 squares was definitely yummy, the man at the counter was awesome, but the prices are a little high for the portions and type of restaurant. The breakfast burrito was good but we should have requested the sour cream inside. The panino was yummy and a good portion with the breakfast potatoes, but definitely needed more bacon. The kids loved the pancakes, but $13 for 3 pancakes is slightly high. The endless coffee was an added bonus! We would definitely go back, just feel it's a little pricey. read more

I ate brunch today at the 3 Squares Cafe. I had the Kimchi Chicken Sandwich and a glass of iced black tea. It was a very tasty meal and the staff was very friendly. It was a littke crowded when I arrived around 1 PM but it wasn't long before I was able to find a seat. I would live to come here again for a bite to eat. read more

Ambiance: Basic downtown cafe / coffeeshop, but with great breakfast options. Water is free, coffee is available from a coffee station to the side. You order first, then pick a spot to sit and they bring the food. Service: Very good, although a portion of the work is done by you. Food: Good. The Challah French toast my spouse had is great, and of course Vermont maple syrup. Bacon was overdone for my taste; it's as if it had been sitting out in a warming area for a long while. I had the mushroom truffle scramble which was good in its own right, but the home fries were also overcooked for my taste, and also over seasoned. Home fries shouldn't be this hard. But, it's great to have a local breakfast spot as close to home as this, and I'll concede we got there a bit later in the morning; will have to see if an earlier time might improve things. read more

Really cute on the inside and tons on the menu. I didn't even see the board with specials on it until after we ordered. Some of the best food on my trip so far. We got the banana walnut pancakes so fluffy light and with the syrup delicious. I got the smoked salmon toast which was packed with salmon so much I almost didn't finish it. We got inside of bacon and home fries which were good as well. Super nice place to hang with family grab a quick bit and you can see and smell the food being made. Def need to stop her for breakfast or lunch read more

The ambiance was really nice and they did a good job to encapsulate the old timer diner sort of vibe. The service was very quick taking only about 2-5 minutes or so but the waiter spilled maple syrup on the pancakes not that it matters but if it was something else it would really suck.The food was really good, the tofu scramble had great flavour and the fries were interestingly tasty with their smooth texture, the buttermilk pancakes were fine but the home fries really packed a punch with there sweet yet spicy nature. read more

As soon as you enter this restaurant, you can feel the 'happy vibe.' All of the staff are smiling and happy to work there. It becomes contagious to the customers and they begin to smile too. Inside, the restaurant looks just like what you would find in the Union Square/SOMA/Mission districts of San Francisco. It has a home made, 'hippy' look and feel. After all, this area is the 'west coast of New England.' Service was excellent. You order at the counter, take a table marker to the table of your choice, and wait. They will bring your food. They even clear the dirty dishes from your table. I had the meatloaf sandwich from the specials board and my wife had the carnita burrito from the regular menu. They each came with a small side salad or fries for $1.50 extra. We chose the salads. Overall, we felt the lunch was excellent. We not only enjoyed the food, but also the experience. read more

Great food, superb service - we had lunch at 3 Squares, which we had done several times in the past. We live in Burlington, but when we pass through Vergennes we make a point of stopping at 3 Squares. The homefries are perfect, crunchy and hot with a hint of something spicy (is it paprika? not sure). The dish I had initially ordered turned out to run out just after I placed my order but the staff quickly took care of the problem and made sure I had a meal I would be happy with instead. Very professional and it made me feel very taken care of. read more

Delicious, individually made. We stopped on our way back from climbing Camel's Hump with a pretty big hunger. Smash burger and turkey Swiss and bacon with steak fries and Boylan cane sodas were our orders. The burger was large and juicy, the turkey was real turkey, not meat roll. Our hiking dog was welcomed to the patio and was provided with an icy cold bowl of water. That patio is separated from the sidewalk by both elevation and a railing which was nice. If you've ever tried to get lunch in Vergennes on a Sunday afternoon you'd know that there's Subway, a Chinese take out and 3 Squares. Even though I didn't have much of a choice 3 Squares blew me away. You have to order at the counter and then they bring your food to your table. I ordered the Black Forest ham sandwich with a side salad and a cup of coffee. They give you a few choices of coffee and the one I chose was delicious. I sat down with my book and only a few minutes later my sandwich arrived. The sandwich was great but what blew me away was the dressing on the greens. It had a hint of maple but just enough vinegar to make it tangy not sweet. Service was great and they've got local beers and I think some wine and cocktails available. I didn't partake because I had a long ride ahead of me but the next time I go through with someone else driving I'll get a beer too. read more

My husband and I dined at Three Squares Cafe one afternoon for lunch during our short vacation in Vergennes in late October. My husband got a sandwich, which he really liked, and I got the Soup of the Day (a satisfying and spicy bean soup) served with warm, crusty bread and butter, and a glass of oat milk. The menu (hanging over the counter where orders are placed) is not easy to read, and there is very little seating (I had my doubts as to whether we'd find a place to sit), but all in all it was a tasty place to grab lunch. read more

Really want to give this place 2 stars because my sandwich was soooo awful, but let me start with highlights. My wife got some sweet potato tacos that she really liked. The coffee was good. They bus their tables, nice touch. My kid got a nice kid-sized cheese quesadilla that she seemed to enjoy. The space is nice. The servers are friendly. Now, my sandwich. Turkey panini. Bread was cracker-brittle and impossible to bite into. Turkey was sloppily stacked and dry as a bone. Couldn't finish it. Big mess. Seems like a tourist trap but it was packed for Thursday lunch rush. This whole town stinks. Bad vibes everywhere you go. Glad we're just passing through. read more

Waitresses were so kind, and service was speedy. They bring you your food and bus your dishes so tipping at the front counter seems fair. I sat in the window, which is my favorite place to eat breakfast. Coffee was tasty and free refills, and prices seem pretty normal for these crazy times. Husband and I stopped here for lunch on our route out of Vermont a few days ago. It was our first visit but I had heard good things. Husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich with a side of steak fries. I had a dry because otherwise what kind of wife would I be if I didn't eat my husband's fries!? Breakfast burritos are sooo good. French toast are delicious and my favorite the coconut macaroons are bomb. The inside is cute and on the weekends it goes off so either call in or have patience to stand in line for a bit. Either way totally worth it and employees are amazing. read more

It's that a friend treated me here because I did all the driving in and around the Green Mountains of Vermont to look at the scenery. Starry Night Cafe' is about fine dining. It's also about "new" cuisine, so that means creative culinary takes on what could be ordinary dishes. Sometimes I'll buy into the concept of "new" and sometimes I won't. Either way, the food here is not meant to be just like it is at all those other restaurants! The two chosen starters were a Caesar-like salad and a cheese plate. I liked my salad, but felt the cheese plate didn't have much to it, although the cheese was of high quality and good. The entrees selected were the mafaldine pasta and the salmon. My friend thought the salmon was good, and I thought my pasta was very good. Portions were about right for fine dining and, thankfully, not abysmally small. The mafaldine's presentation looked green as if it the sauce might be pesto, but it is not. It's a spinach pasta. Also, note that these are pronounced "mah-fahl-deen-eh" and not "mah-fahl-deen." A dessert was ordered and it featured berries and cream. I tried a little bit of it and it was delicious. The bread that arrived at the beginning of the meal was excellent. The serving staff seemed excited about the vaudouvan butter. This name doesn't mean anything to me. Should it? The menu mentioned that the butter was flavored with curry. I hesitated and was told that it was a French curry. I wondered how that might be different. Still, no matter how much or how little you use of it, the aftertaste lingers for too long. I did not like this nifty butter. Starry Night Cafe' looks inconspicuous from the parking lot. Once inside, there are several nice rooms in which to eat and you initially see a tastefully appointed bar. Each of the dining spaces has a slightly different personality. There are even outdoor spaces flanked by a large pond that would have worked well if it wasn't as humid as it was that day. Even the restrooms are decked out, right down to what might be oil paintings by local artists ... and the restrooms even smell good! The name of the restaurant does indeed refer to the work of Vincent Van Gogh. The service is excellent. They both explain the dishes you inquire about and answer other questions you might have. Being my usual self, I was observing and making assessments of the situation, such as the service and its style. It was funny in that it tried to be informal and even a little folksy, given that it's Vermont, when it is in fact fine dining. In reality, the real vibe was that the interaction was more formal than in many nicer restaurants, whether rural or urban. With that said, Starry Night is an expensive restaurant. I asked my friend about all the 5 star ratings. My friend said that, for Vermont, it is probably a 5 star event, but if it was in New York City and its environs, it would most likely fetch 4 stars. I'll go with that logic. The entree and the dessert were very tasty, but I did not like there being a polarizing spice in the butter, nor the small portion of the (other person's) cheese plate. I did appreciate the curated atmosphere and the professional service. Starry Night Cafe' made for a very interesting experience. I chose things from the menu that worked for me. I'm glad that I was taken here to eat, and I'm (humorously) stressing the words "taken here."

She was very nice / good people skills...a good first impression...we were 1st time customers and...matter of factly....we used to own and operate our own pizza shop for ten years. She was a good staff member to represent their business at the front counter! The food. My Philly was outstanding. Moist. Not dry like some others I've had out. So many places use cheap Top Round of Beef, shaved thin to cut costs. This one was VERY good. I could only eat half / brought the other half with us. When the counter woman placed my wife's 'Margherita' pizza down on the table, I said, 'now THAT is a great looking pizza'!!! I'm not trying to diss other restaurants but sometimes....sometimes they must cook their fries or OR's way too early in the order and must put them under a heat lamp...when they SHOULD be cooked just before the order goes out to the table....these WERE!!! And most places DO NOT make their own OR's....too messy, labor intensive..these tasted like Brew City OR's...a brand...but if not...they were VERY VERY good!!! So all and all, a very good job by 'Rocker's' on our first visit....I asked the counter woman who made the Philly / she told me / so I ventured into the kitchen and gave the crew a two thumbs up to all! Yes I did! Because I used to own my own pizzeria....and I know how hard the industry is.....I thanked them! I am a pizziolo and have been making pizzas since 1969 at The Tower Restaurant on Williston Rd, South Burlington. This was a very good pizza! The food was good although they did forget the pickled onions on our roast beef sandwich. It just took a very long and unexceptable time to get our food. We had 2 sandwiches and it took 1/2 an hour to get them. No one seemed in a hurry to be of service or seemed to think there was even anything wrong. I would not recommend going there unless you have a very very long time to sit and wait. For the prices they charge, I expected a lot more. read more

Checked these guys out for lunch on our first visit to explore Vergennes. What a gem! Great specials, cool vibe all around. We really enjoyed to casual community style to dining area. We didnt find a whole lot to do in town but 3 Squares will be a reason to come back and keep looking. read more
