312 Beef & Sausage was such a comfy atmosphere. The food tastes homemade. Located off S West Ave., near Mobile Gas Station and across from Midwest Community Bank. My family ate some wonderful hot meals. We ordered, Chicago Dog (2x), Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Brisket Dog, Italian Beef, Crinkle Cut Fries, Cheese Curds and Fresh Cut Fries. We had a great time here. We met the owner, Phil, and talked to him for a little bit. The owner radiates such enthusiasm for each customer that's contagious and is no wonder why this place is so popular and has over 4-Star glowing reviews. He was so kind to us that he made us, from scratch, complimentary two hot Pretzels and Onion Rings. If you've ever had hot Pretzels before... You've never tried these homemade Pretzels. As we were dividing each pretzel apart, it was so soft to the touch and the steam was coming out. Almost something out of professional commercial, in slow motion. The food, the atmosphere and the entire staff was genuinely amazing to serve us and other guests in the restaurant. The menu selection is large, so be sure to bring your hungry belly. First here. Don't live in the area. Food was ok. Gyro was over cooked a bit but edible.

We were in town, and decided to stop in for dinner. There are entrances from the road / parking behind the business, and off the main drag in front. My suggestion is park in the back. The restaurant was clean. That was the first impression. I spotted two big flat screen TVs in the dining room, and more in the bar, all tuned into the same Final Four NCAA game. There isn't a lot of art on the walls. The bathrooms were also clean and smelled clean The table was wood and was clean when we were seated. We were asked to order drinks, so my wife had their 3 Twelve Punch, and I had a Stella. After tasting her 3 Twelve Punch, I wish I had ordered that. The Stella wasn't warm, but it wasn't as cold as it should have been. A quick look at the placemat (that isn't used as a placemat) sized menu, and we decided to grab their Smoked Gouda Bites appetizer. The good thing about Gouda is that it melts well, so the bits had a nice fried coating, and were soft and gooey inside. Yum! From there, it was on to dinner. I saw the Olive Burger which was noted as having a tapenade on the burger, so I went for that with fries. My wife had their Bacon Bourbon Burger. The burgers were 1/4 lb, and were "smash" burgers, meaning you don't get the perfectly round patty you get at fast food restaurants, which scrape them off a frozen pile of burgers with some exceptions. No temperature was requested - the burgers were served well done - not incinerated, but no pink in the burger. I'll start with the Bacon Bourbon Burger - my wife liked it, it had a good sauce and good taste. The olive burger - well, I know what a tapenade is, it's olives, capers, and anchovies, unless you want it vegetarian, in which case you omit the anchovies. Add in a little olive oil and lemon, and you have tapenade. This wasn't a tapenade - it was diced green olives. Not a major thing, but if you say tapenade, it should be tapenade, not diced olives. The fries were steak-style, thicker in width and depth. They were tasty. We closed out with a slice of their cherry crunch cheesecake. It was good. This place is worth a try. read more

Absolutely the real deal, everything was dead on. The tastes I've missed since leaving Chicago. If I could have I'd have also ordered the Italian Beef and Italian Sausage. It's very disheartening that in my opinion this restaurant has slipped. I ordered dinner last night, my ultimate cheeseburger was pretty tasteless other than the pickle, I added bacon and asked for a side of mayonnaise but did not receive either if those items. There was not mozzarella on the Italian beef plus the beef was a little more tough than I remembered. So very sad.! I'm not one to complain about my food however, it seems the prices in general have gone up and quality has gone down. I know I ordered to have food ready by 915 pm but due to the time I gave them a tip, but didn't get what I wanted fully. read more

Having moved to Freeport 8 months ago one of the things I really wanted was a good Gyro, or itallian beef. I had stumbled across 312 Beef when they were at the corner of N. Galena and W. Douglas. However, they closed and moved to their current location on S. West Ave. After the move I waited a coupe of months for them to settle in before trying them out. One night the urge for a Gyro hit me... my son and I went off to 312 Beef to try it out... Unfortunately, they did not live up to the hype. The Gyro was okay. Nothing special. I've had better Gyros at a fast-food chain down the road. The Tzatsiki sauce was bland, to me it was as if they used generic sour cream. Their meat was lackluster, an almost bland flavor and none of that rotisserie cooked feel to it. The fries were also unimpressive. They were cooked, but still managed to be limp and soggy. We ordered our food, then drove the 6 minutes to our house to eat it once it was received. Nothing held up. I plan on going back to try their Italian beef, but I'm concerned after the lackluster performance of a standard Gyro. Will I eat it? Yes... Am I going to grave a 312 Beef Gyro... no. read more

I get a lot of visitors from the West Coast wanting to experience Chicago dogs And Italian beef... 312 can definitely hold its own against any Chicagoland establishment and is now a must do any time friends and family visit. I tried the Italian beef, the gyro, and a Chicago dog on my first visit (don't judge, they just kept getting better!) and all three were top notch! Very clean and unique building w/ a great space in the back for larger gatherings and although I don't gamble, their gaming section was the cleanest and the nicest I've seen around, with free snacks and drinks! I grew up on Portillo's and 312 is a close second. In Freeport, 312 is now my go to place for a good hotdog.

My hubby and I were in Freeport for thanksgiving and his dad told us 312 is worth trying. We ended up staying at the Hampton inn and suites so it was literally walking distance. My husband and I reluctantly checked yelp... knowing Freeporters don't really yelp... but we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of reviews and pictures. Of course I start with pics.... and when I saw the Bacon Avocado dog (Dog of the week), my heart melted... 2 of my favorite ingredients!!! Bacon and Avocado!! I immediately called and asked if they still had this dog of the week.. or if they had the ingredients to make it... they said "no." To make my heart hurt more, they didn't have a dog of the day at all this week due to the short week So we went anyways... I ordered the BLT... without sauce (I don't like anything mayo based) and fries My hubby ordered the Chicago style and the spicy Italian and fries My BLT... was a BLT.. kinda basic... My husbands Chicago style was OMG!!! And his Spicy Italian was OMG.... Good Lord!! Amazing!!!! Amazing!!! Probably one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth! And the fries????.... We tried this place on a whim since we both are from Chicago area. I was pleasantly surprised that the hot dogs were fantastic. They use Vienna Beef hot dogs. My wife had the combination (beef & sausage) and she loved it. We also had the hand cut fries and they too were awesome. This is a pickup only business as they have nowhere to sit.
