There are lots of places to get ice cream. I kept hearing how good 2 Profs was. It was "better" ice cream. Let's go find out. It was easily 100 degrees outside, so something cold made perfect sense. At least 20 flavors, maybe 30. I was trying to decide when there it was. KEY LIME ice cream! I'm addicted to key lime pie, so you can imagine how my taste buds were tingling! I ordered one scoop in a cup. Their scoops are huge! It was thicker and more creamy than regular ice cream. Absolutely delicious! A very smooth lime taste that I will definitely get again. But I also like chocolate, so next time will have to be a triple scoop variety. We all scream for ice cream! read more

Each of us got something different and all of it was insanely good. My son chose the dairy free sour apple ice cream and loved it. It's like sherbet but icier. My daughter got a scoop in a waffle cone...a scoop doesn't even begin to measure it; it was HUGE and filled up the waffle cone. I got a chocolate shake and it is rich, thick, and creamy deliciousness. We're going for the ice cream nachos next time. My kids actually said it was better than BlueBell, but that's ridiculous bc nothings better than BlueBell, but it was awesome. read more

Okay so I got a milkshake and my friend T got a 1 scoop and the ice cream was pretty good, however; the device WAS TRASH. Little Miss blonde employee with the glasses who worked the closing shift tonight was so rude. Talked to me like I was stupid and was so unprofessional. Being extremely bossy and had a terrible tone. I try my best to be kind to people who work in the food industry but this woman was downright unbearable. Would not recommend. I would fire her ASAP. read more

The north location that we went to is cute, very simple and clean. The choices are amazing from fruity to creamy chocolates. I had their white chocolate raspberry I believe and it was heaven on the taste buds. They do get busy so patience is good because they do their best to make sure everyone is happy. read more

In my attempt to find every old movie theater in Texas during the quarantine, I have been as far north, south, west, and east as you can get in the Lone Star State. Road food is my friend. I actually love a convenience store burrito as a valid entree choice. But sometimes I want something extra...a sit-down meal or a home-baked cookie. On this particular day, I was craving ice cream. Usually, that would send me to the closest DQ for a Blizzard, but I wanted something new. Baskin-Robbins, Cold Stone...meh, didn't appeal to me. But I read about 2 Profs and how it was founded by a father-son duo of college professors and decided that sounded worthy of a try. I didn't want to mask up, so I did the drive-thru. The building is a former KFC, but that didn't bother me. After looking at the available flavors, I asked for a scoop of White Chocolate Almond. It came in a tall styrofoam cup like a soft drink would come in, but once again, that doesn't affect my experience. The ice cream was incredibly rich, with a very slick mouthfeel that indicates a high butterfat content. It would cling to my spoon and was almost a challenge to pull out a spoonful. The flavor was wonderful: big chunks of white chocolate and crunchy almonds in a decadent cream base. It was so good that, two days later, I passed back through Abilene and made a beeline to 2 Profs. This time I went inside and enjoyed TWO scoops, one of my original choice and one of Caramel Crunch. Can't rate it any higher than five stars, but this ice cream is a real winner. read more

Ok ice cream. Eerie feeling inside. No music no talking because only 1 employee ( teenage girl) working (which I find extremely dangerous). She got a rush of people in the lobby and in the drive through. She was doing her best but she is only one person. This is on the owner/ manager. If they can't find help they should be there. read more

Only 6 flavors, and rude employees. I had a coupon any purchase, and upon giving it to the girl, she said she couldn't redeem the coupon because she already put the cash in the register. She had the cash IN HER HAND. She could have cancelled the purchase and started a new one with the discount, or she could have given me cash back for my discount. But she refused to redeem the coupon even though my payment was in her hands. The cone for the ice cream also broke very easily and the ice cream spilled everywhere. Thoroughly pleasing treat! We are in town visiting friends who made it a priority to bring us here. The coffee mixed with chocolate shake was great! The seating area outside is nice and shaded to enjoy your ice cream on a hot day. They were out of a lot of flavors, but I liked the Salted Caramel, Butterfinger, and Mocha Chip. The Mocha Chip could have used a bit more coffee flavor in it. Then again, I love coffee and the more coffee flavor, the better. My husband had a chocolate milkshake, and he said it was okay. The prices are comparable to Baskin Robbins. The girl serving us was friendly. We may come back and bring the kids. read more

Established in 2017.

Father-Son founders, Carley and Matthew Dodd transformed their love of ice cream into a living dream and founded 2 Profs Gourmet Ice Cream. They began in 2017 with a cozy ice cream shop in Sweetwater, TX and quickly expanded to Abilene, TX. As former professors, their dedication to quality bursts through each spoonful of their premium ice cream. They both come out of higher education where they were both professors with over 65 years of combined teaching/administrative experience. The love of teaching runs in the family, and so does their love of ice cream. They have a foundational love for family that comes from deeply-rooted faith. Their desire is that every time you eat their ice cream, it is not just an action, but an experience. They believe that ice cream is better as a shared experience, because the memories you make don’t melt. We ordered two waffle cones, which were advertised as $3.75 each. However, when we got our total, it came out to $10.70. Confused, we asked about the discrepancy, and the staff casually said, "Oh, that's just tax." But after doing the math (8.25% combined state and city tax), that just didn't add up-it should've been $0.61 in tax, not nearly $3 more. We went back in to get clarification, only to be told that the cone prices had recently increased by $1 each. Even with that adjustment, the math still didn't work. It feels like they're just making up numbers and overcharging customers, which is incredibly frustrating. It's a shame because we're in town all week and had planned to come back nightly, but after this experience, we won't be returning at all. I hate to say it, but it feels like they're stealing money from people. Proceed with caution if you decide to stop by!

It's a shame because we're in town all week and had planned to come back nightly, but after this experience, we won't be returning at all. We were immediately greeted by the server and seated just as quickly. The place was pretty busy, as one would expect on a Saturday at 6 pm, so it was great to be seated right away. The table was already set with two water cups, two plates, two sets of silverware, and two napkins, so we didn't have to set the area ourselves. Our server came shortly after with a large glass bottle of water and took our drink orders. My girlfriend got a bottled Dr. Pepper while I stuck to water. I also noticed they serve plenty of wines as well as a good selection of craft beers. They have ten different specialty pizzas, and we settled on their most expensive: the Carnivore. I say most expensive, but it was $20 for a pizza that fed two. It took about 10-15 minutes before the pizza came out, which is impressively fast. All pizzas are about 12 inches and are sliced into sixes. If you're hungry, consider an appetizer or a dessert, but to us, it was a perfect size with plenty of meat. The crust is thin and crispy, as one would expect from a wood-fire pizza. It was really excellent. For dessert, my girlfriend and I ordered their Saturday Morning Cartoons, which is a panna cotta with Fruity Pebbles that I enjoyed but she adored (I let her eat most of it). All in all, the meal was around $30 plus the tip I added. We were in and out in under 40 minutes, which was quite impressive for a sit-down pizza restaurant. I highly recommend this to anyone living in or visiting Abilene. P.S. My girlfriend wanted my Yelp review to note that their women's bathroom has hair ties, bobby pins, a Tide pen, and other items that you never know you'll need until you do, which gives Vagabond extra brownie points for going above and beyond. RIYL: An affordable meal for two.

A friend and I just happened upon this shop because we were in the shopping plaza going to H&H Beverages (ABC liquor store). The pie shop itself happened to be closed but we discovered a self serve pie and goodie vending machine right outside the shop front entrance and wandered over to check it out. Pretty darn cool concept! The vending machine takes credit card payments and there were a lot of different pie options to choose from - so kudos to them for keeping a well stocked machine after hours. There are various pie slice flavors, 6" small whole pies and also what they call "pie-faits" (get it? a play on the word "parfait") - little dessert cups (basically deconstructed pies in a jar with a lid). I posted a bunch of pics and a couple vids so check them out. We ended up ordering 2 pie slices - Key Lime and Milk and Cookies. Prices for slices were a tad high but we figured what the heck, we'll splurge for fresh homemade pie. We liked the Key Lime pie slice - very tart, tangy and creamy. But we didn't like so much the Milk and Cookies pie slice - when we dug into it, it was mostly all pie crust and pie topping and not much actual pie filling - also was way too sweet (probably due to the slice being all crust and topping) - disappointing especially for how much we paid for the slice WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE MILK AND COOKIES PIE. We peered through the front window into the shop - it looked quaint and basic - a tiny little place - an ordering counter, pie display case and a couple of tables and chairs. That was about it. Not really the kind of ambience that would cause me to stay, sit and eat there honestly. The shopping center was old and tired and seemed a bit run down with vacant shops and not much going on. From the main road (Rebecca Ln) you can't even see the shop signage so unless you knew about this place, you would never know it was here driving by (not even with their truck parked near the street) - which is unfortunate for them. In the end, bottom line, I don't think it's a place I would go out of my way to seek out or frequent. It was a cool novelty stop-in-and-try-once kind of place (and only because it caught our eye when we were at the liquor store) but given the high cost of a slice and not being absolutely blown away by what we ordered, not really worth a second look imo. :(
