Yesterday's SB 4 release was phenomenal, more than enough pairs to go around and a very fair and thought out system. I never leave reviews on shops but feel the need to do so here. Great business

Best skate shop with the dopest gear. I was even lucky enough to get some Nike SB dunks fresh off the floor! Board selection was awesome and the staff is really nice, especially the guy fingerboarding behind the counter was super helpful.

All the Guys were super nice to my little one. They hooked us up with a special birthday board. Did not try and over sell. Super honest.

I do not skateboard. I am not some hipster clothes freak. I am not a sneaker head. But this little place is so awesome.

What is a reasonable budget for a first skateboard?

$120 is good if you know what you're buying.

I went in to get my 10 year old daughter a skateboard and we both felt extremely welcomed and comfortable.

The new selection is bigger but still small enough to clear your way through entirely in about thirty minutes. Their rap section was bigger than most stores thrice BMS' size and, again, was very well curated. If you go to the store and come out without having seen anything you want to purchase, you probably need to reassess your musical taste. I wish we'd have dropped in earlier so I could have checked out the hoodie and clothes section. It looked rad.

This was a great find for us. My teenage son has been skateboarding more seriously for about a year…read morenow and was looking to improve his board setup based on what he learned through practicing. We had gone to a number of other skate shops around and none had all of the hardware that he was looking for. We drove up to the somewhat rundown house in which Black Market Skates is located and my son's first question was 'Are we in the right place?' Having not always lived in the suburbs, my first thought when seeing the Independent banner hanging in the window was that not only were we in the right place, but that this is the real deal (not some mall replica of a skate shop). I'm into other sports and hobbies that don't necessarily attract a mainstream customer base so I know that the best retail stores for these activities are often not particularly dressed up. But what these types of shops do have are staff that know all about what they are selling and equipment designed to perform better (instead of just looking good in a store). The staff at Black Market Skates definitely know what they are talking about and provided in-depth advice on considerations such as what firmness of wheels that would best suit the type of skating that my son wanted to do. I was also really impressed by how much equipment they keep in stock. They have hundreds of decks and wheels as well as a wide selection of trucks and bearings. This is definitely a store that focuses on what skaters need for skating versus the clothing and shoes that wanna-bes are looking for to look like a skater. Given the large number of decks in stock (including their own shop brand of decks at a great price) and all of the other components he wanted, my son walked out the door in 45 minutes with an expertly assembled skateboard that he wanted to ride outside the store. We'll definitely be back!

I've bought two sets…read moreof skis, two pairs of boots, and way too much outerwear and base layers here over the years, so I've spent a lot of time in the shop. The selection is huge, but it's really the people that keep me coming back. The shop team is awesome and they actually listen. If something isn't feeling right with your gear, they're super open to feedback and want to make it right. Matt, the shop manager, is the man. He's incredibly knowledgeable, responsive, and easy to work with. It makes a huge difference going into a season knowing your gear was handled by people who care. I also have to give a massive shoutout to Caesar, who helped me with a boot fit recently. I can't say enough good things about him. He sat there and listened to every single complaint I had about my old boots and didn't stop until we found the perfect pair. We tried on at least four different sets, and he was so patient through the whole process. What I appreciated most was how honest he was about the tradeoffs between different fits. He explained exactly what I should be looking for and how to adjust them on the fly. He moved me from a "beginner" comfort fit into a performance boot that feels worlds better on the snow. I really hope he's still there when I'm ready for my next pair, but honestly, with how good he is, he'll probably be running the company by then. Whether you're just starting out or you've been skiing for years, go to Evo. They have the perfect mix of being approachable but also knowing exactly what they're talking about.
