Wow! Previous voicemail was not returned, and when I called today I never even made it made to an appointment or very far in the conversation due to his rudeness over the phone. He hung up on me the first time, then when I called back thinking it must have been an error... he proceeded to question me in a rude manner about my phone number and location. Definitely won't be booking with this person. Update: oh my, I guess you're so rude to people so often you don't even recall the phone conversation. It's ok I'm sure you won't make that mistake going forward when you don't recognize an area code. If you'd not been so rude about it I'm sure I would have made the appointment, and hopefully would have had a good experience. Lesson learned hopefully. My only regret with Dr. Sterns was not having found him sooner! I'd been to 3 different vets before finding Dr. S. The vets I had gone to before meeting Dr. S would always try to up charge us, the visit was rushed, and there was no time or effort to learn about Rocky and his needs. My gosh the time and care that he takes with my pup Rocky is unbelievable! He's so great and patient with Rocky and I. He always takes time to answer all of my nervous dog mom questions and has even answered emails for us when Rocky's been sick. I will also add that my Rocky is a chi mix and he struggles with reactivity but he LOVES Dr. S! He makes house calls which is super convenient for us since Rocky is reactive - its best to avoid other dogs. Last year Dr. S did have to perform a minor procedure on Rocky and he was able to do this in his office. (This review covers our family's experiences during the pre-COVID-19 time.) Dr. Michael Sterns of 4Paws is the best vet we've had in a decade. He's a visiting vet who took great care of our chihuahua and two of our cats for several years until we moved out of his service area. Our little dog doesn't enjoy vaccinations but Dr. Sterns made her as comfortable as possible, and not everyone we've seen takes the time to do that. He also took the time to describe why X variant of medication was more effective than Y variant, and why it was better to do this routine care rather than a different routine care. I feel like Dr. Sterns truly cares about his animal patients and their families. I found his hours of service to be convenient, and in a multiple animal/species household, visiting veterinary service is a godsend. You can purchase animal medicines from him directly, or for a nominal fee, he will write a prescription to an online pharmacy of your choice. Everyday vet visits were super, but I particularly appreciate the way Dr. Sterns was there for us during a veterinary emergency. Housecall veterinary care isn't appropriate for every issue, and yet, when we had a sudden yet evolving situation during which we contacted Dr. S for advice, he supported us over the phone. We wondered if our cat was experiencing an adverse reaction to a vaccine, but Dr. S - without making us feel foolish for suggesting our hypothesis - accurately diagnosed what was actually happening, over the phone, which was confirmed when we arrived at the veterinary ER. I was at first impressed by Dr. Stern's personality and good reviews. Our dog has been on Simprica trio and she responded well to the drug. When we switched to Dr. Stern he insisted on changing to two new medications (heartguard and another drug i forgot the name ) for the same indications as Simprica Trio. Apparently, he has the supply of these two drugs from his mobile vet car at our first house visit. Our dog threw up right after taking the one of the new medications. We dared not to give her the second one right away. Dr. Stern did let us return the medication and give us a credit for three boxes returned. When our dog tried the second medication a few weeks later, she threw up again! I asked Dr. Stern to switch back to Simprica Trio to avoid more unnecessary torture to our poor fur baby. Guess what, he asked us to GO AWAY! He feels that we questioned his decisions and we are completely unscientific. He doesn't want us to be his customers any more, just because we asked him to switch to a drug that our dog won't suffer. I am not a vet but I have a masters degree in bioscience and a biochemical engineering undergrad. The very basic science is that not all animals / human respond to the same drug the same way. I suspect his reaction was based on the fact that he could no longer sell us the drugs in his inventory and enjoy the profits, as we have to order Simpreica Trio on Chewy.com. Life is too short to deal with unreasonable, unethical and illogical charlatans, who on the surface appears to be nice and cares about your pets. I am writing here to save you time and money to deal with these people and most importantly I refuse to let my pet suffer from people's unethical behaviors. read more

Dr. Stearns is a savior! WE rescued a little black dachshund on a highway 2 years back and didn't realize his teeth were so bad until after about a year, he was unkissable..BAD horrid breath... Instead of calling me back, this so called doctors texted me that he doesn't take "cat clients only!" What is this supposed to mean? Why did you not mention that on your website? So rude and bad business. The funny thing is, I just complained to whole bunch of dog people and one of them has 4 dogs! We required the veterinary care for our aging and very sick golden retriever almost eight months ago. Dr. Sterns has been a godsend for us. Last year we moved from Fremont to Palo Alto and needed a new vet. I was shocked to find there are only Animal Hospitals in the area but no Veterinary Clinics. Now, we have not 1, not 2 but 5 cats! Yes, 5! I know it is a lot and believe me it wasn't up to us. A local feral mom in Fremont decided "Oh, this lady takes great care of her 2 cats and then they adopted the cutest 3rd cat, I should drop my offspring to her." I asked him if there is anybody else he can refer us to and he said he would let me know. 5 min. later he called me and said I made him laugh (Being a crazy cat lady with 5 cats do that to you) and he will come and see us.
