    Soulecito Waffle, coffee
    Conner W.

I got the soulecito and a medium roast coffee. I don't really get the point of having the eggs and bacon on top but I guess there's some things in life that just are. So yeah I poured syrup over all of it and then kinda pushed the eggs to the side. Bacon was nice and thick. Love that. Honestly I'm super hungover right now and this is repairing my broken. All my love, thanks 521. I'll be back. I'm recently single btw.

Not far from where I'm staying is 521. Good location to a lot of places. Walking in it seemed to be holding on to the hipster aesthetic from a few years ago. No line but good reviews. So I just went with it. I got a build your own biscuit with egg and the 75¢ up charge for the sausage. Came out to $9.75 before tip. Services was fast even with someone from the back of house leaving for a cigarette. Now, the egg is fine. And the sausage is ok. But I don't like the biscuit. It has the after taste of baking powder. And the texture isnt right, it has a chew like bread than a southern biscuit. Maybe the waffles are better. But I don't think I'll go again. 2.5 stars.

This place is great! No much else around, but you will see people constantly coming in and out! Tiny place, easily missed. I'm going to assume the owner? Is not very friendly, doesn't smile... but we did come back the next day and she smiled a little more so maybe it was an off day. Food comes out pretty fast, great variety of options. My kid loves places that are completely gluten free. She doesn't have to be cautious. Also the absolute joy of being able to order waffles at a restaurant! Everything was phenomenal! Biscuit bread was perfect softness, not too hard. Things were seasoned well. First day there were no scones, but the next day, they had 3 flavors! Obviously we got all 3. We will for sure be back, and we are more than willing to drive further out of our way just to come back here again.

Good vibes and good gluten free food. Service was great and food was freshly made. Would come back again.

This is a fantastic spot if you are looking for gluten-free options! Everything on the menu is gluten-free so you're guaranteed to have a safe meal if you have a gluten intolerance. The best part is these goodies are incredible for not having gluten. When you think of sweet treats without gluten you probably assume they're dry and cardboardy, these ones are so much better than that. The waffles here are fluffy and the biscuits are still buttery. As someone who does eat gluten, do know the chocolate chip waffle can be compared to a wheaty flavor and you can still tell there is a small difference, but it's not bad. I brought my friend who has a gluten intolerance here and she was so thrilled. We both left happy and without tummy aches. I got the chocolate chip waffle and was able to eat all of it (not something I can normally do with a gluten waffle). She enjoyed her biscuit. Back in 2020, my partner and I celebrated our anniversary at the time with takeout from 521 Biscuits & Waffles and also really liked the waffles we had. In 2024, they have a good amount of seating inside. They also have a gender neutral single stall bathroom in the back. I'd recommend this spot if you can't eat gluten! Be sure to order a waffle. They have great options.

Nice clean atmosphere. Fresh juice and nice coffee and tea bar. My brother enjoyed his waffle and my egg and cheese sandwich won't too bag. Friendly and quick service, we will be back.

    The Beaut sandwich

I have celiac and this was an absolute bucket list thing for me in Richmond. Got the Beaut biscuit sandwich and fresh OJ, was delicious. Space was nice and the staff were friendly.

Great food, friendly service, quick prep and walkable from our downtown hotel! We got the MonkeyDo waffle and the Biscuit with sausage, eggs, bacon and cheese - and a coffee. Prices weren't too bad for the area and the restaurant was clean.

    The Beaut (Byoot)

I'm gonna go 4 out 5 stars, the waffle is the star of this breakfast show. I wanted more out of the Beaut, more hot sauce or more egg taste...something to beat that waffle. The bacon in this sandwich is really tasty, but it could use an extra strip. My hopes is that biscuit would have some the flavor like the waffle has; Maybe I ordered wrong, it looks like the sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast biscuit sandwich looked tasty. Service is perfect, order and they bring your order to you. I truly enjoy big city dining experience, and 521 keeps it simple. A couple of tables outside, pictures on the wall, and some great speakers playing some great songs. I will certainly be back for a waffle and a coffee, and maybe try the sausage biscuit sandwich. ***Flight Attendant approved***

    Soulecito Waffle

Delicious waffle. Fluffy and crispy. Scrambled eggs were good. Bacon was a little overcooked for me, but that's my personal preference. All in all, if you're looking for a solid waffle and breakfast, this is the place. Yummy!

The menu has so many tempting options that it was hard to choose, but we both landed on the Hot Chicken Sandwich with cayenne butter--and we're glad we did. It had the perfect amount of heat: enough to bring some spice without overpowering the flavor. On the side, I ordered the green beans after our bartender/server highly recommended them. Normally, green beans wouldn't be my first choice, but they were seasoned perfectly and ended up being one of the biggest surprises of the meal. My partner chose the mac and cheese, which was the superior side (although both were excellent). The service was friendly, attentive, and genuine throughout the evening. Despite arriving on a Friday night without a reservation, we had no trouble getting a table. They only accept reservations for parties of 5-8, so I'm glad we decided to take our chances. One of my favorite parts of the evening was chatting with another guest at the bar. He and his wife shared several entrées with their young son, and they couldn't stop raving about the short ribs--which their son happily claimed for himself by the end of the meal! They also highly recommended the salmon, so we've already got ideas for our next visit. The only real downside has nothing to do with the restaurant itself: parking in Scott's Addition can be a challenge. I'd recommend allowing yourself some extra time to find a spot or, even better, taking a rideshare so you can start enjoying your evening right away. Lunch. Supper! has earned its reputation as a longtime Richmond favorite. Great food, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere make this an easy five-star recommendation. We'll definitely be back.

I've had reservations in major cities around the world and have never been ID'd for a table--especially not at a casual spot like this. From there, they automatically tacked on a 20% service fee for essentially a DIY dining experience. Once the server dropped off our food, she disappeared completely, leaving us to fetch our own drink refills and making the automatic markup feel entirely unearned. The food was just as low-effort. My bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich was basic and came with no hot sauce options. My daughter's kid's spaghetti had a watery sauce that slid right off the noodles. The pear and prosciutto pizza was basically a lackluster flatbread, and it even arrived with a torn piece of a Piancone wrapper sitting right on top that the server completely missed. To finish it off, we had to switch tables immediately because our picnic table was filthy underneath, complete with bugs crawling up through the wood planks. Between the weird host interrogation, poor hygiene, lazy food, and unjustified fees, I'd highly recommend spending your money elsewhere.

The ambiance was great, the portions were incredibly generous, and the staff was friendly, attentive, and completely on top of their game. Drinks arrived fast, and the entire meal flowed beautifully without a single hitch. But let's get to the real highlight of the night: the Tsingtao beer-battered mushrooms. Oh my goodness, they were out of this world! The entryway is interesting and provides some shelter from the rain, allowing you to manage your umbrella before entering. We were seated within seconds, and our server, Liza, came by very promptly with some water for our table. I felt slightly anxious at first, being that we were in a cozy two-top amongst the fray, but it subsided quickly because everyone was respectful and reasonably quiet. We ordered the veggie spring rolls to start, and I had the Chinatown Ramen, and my partner had the Chicken Fried Noodles. The appetizer was hot, savory, and spicy with the duck sauce and hot mustard mixture. If you like milder sauce, do not mix it. The entrees came out within five or so minutes of the appetizers, which seemed quick for a busy night. The ramen was spicy, hot, and filling. I was only able to finish about half. We will be enjoying those leftovers tonight. My partner said that her noodles and chicken were well-seasoned and delicious, too. Looking around the restaurant, it is clear that they support the local LGBTQ+ community, and it is even labeled as a Safe Space on the beautifully manicured, makeshift chalkboard/menu/posting board. The clientele and staff alike seemed warm and kind, based solely on limited interactions and observation on my part. If you are looking for a traditional American-Chinese food restaurant (think buffet-style items), this is likely not the place for you. There were no mishaps or snafus with our orders. Liza performed her duties well, and I can surely recommend this restaurant to anyone who doesn't mind a mix of Japanese and Chinese cuisine.
