I went to this art fair with my hubby, sister and brother-in-law during a recent visit to Chicago. This is a very small art fair, but for its size, it's pretty ok. It's hard to evaluate this art fair fairly because I've been to so many great art fairs in Kansas City and this one wasn't nearly as good or as big as the Plaza Art Fair or the Brookside Art Fair, but it was still a pleasant experience.
There were a number of vendors selling jewelry, ceramics, wall art and textiles. There was a lot of variability in the quality of the pieces from artist to artist, but I did manage to make a small purchase here of some beautiful earrings and a bracelet. There was an artist who was selling stunning silk ties and scarves as well. My brother-in-law decided to avail himself of a stunning new tie and I found myself fighting the urge to buy a silk scarf.
The facilities for this art fair are not what I'm used to. There were no port-a-potties but instead, the facilities were available in a nearby school. The school's bathroom was truly pretty bad and no better than a port-a-potty. If you didn't already know that there were bathrooms that could be used inside the school, there is no way anyone could have figured it out on their own as there were no signs. There were some food vendors in the parking lot of the school, but none of the eats they were selling looked terribly appealing. This is where I feel that I might be spoiled, because I'm used to having some gourmet food options available when I go to art fairs, but there were none at this one. Fortunately, I'd had a lovely brunch already, so I didn't feel the need to purchase any of the not-so-appealing food.
All in all, it was an enjoyable time, but I wouldn't put it at the top of my list for activities to do in Chicago in the future. read more
