Instead of focusing on running their store, they were busy ganging up on people in the parking lot. If you want to be screamed at and insulted by the owner and his companion, this is the place. What we ordered: 1) a create-your-own pastrami sandwich with mustard, pickles, and Swiss cheese, 2) their new pastrami cheesesteak. 3) a banana pudding (which I haven't tried yet) The standard pastrami hoagie good, but those kinds of pastrami sandwiches are pretty ubiquitous in SoCal-- pastrami, thinly sliced; maybe there's pickles, maybe there's mustard, maybe there's jus for a dip (their's is dry), on a French roll. I can get that kind of pastrami sandwich closer to me. On the other hand, a pastrami cheesesteak is NOT something you'd see around these parts. According to the menu, their cheesesteak has their signature pastrami, Cooper sharp cheddar, and onions on a hoagie roll. We preferred the pastrami cheesesteak over the standard, simply because of the novelty but also for the taste. The cheddar gave the cheesesteak a richness that a regular pastrami sandwich wouldn't have. Also, the melted cheddar had a binding effect on the pastrami; the meat stayed in the sandwich. You didn't end up with a third to half the pastrami ending up escaping the confines of the roll halves. The pastrami cheesesteak also included a 2oz serving cup of chipotle aioli which we really didn't need. The flavor on its own was enough for us. If I had a minor gripe on this cheesesteak, maybe a hit of acid would've been nice, but cheesesteaks usually lean toward rich and gooey so this sandwich's flavors and textures are par for the course. About the place itself: 1) the sandwich shop is on the corner of a major intersection, Lexington and Pacific 2) other than a driveway with a single space, it is ALL street parking. 3) there is NO parking on Pacific 4) the only dine-in option is a small porch with a couple of tables 5) be stage are all canned or bottled; there is no fountain The sandwiches are made to order. My order was given a wait time of 15 minutes but I'm pretty sure it was faster than that. I don't think I would drive all the way from the Rosemead area, but it's clearly a local's favorite. If we were in the area, we'd totally order the pastrami cheesesteak again, maybe with pepperonis. Their pastrami is no Langer's, but it's definitely a cut (no pun intended) over the standard Jim's 1/4 Lb or Rick's type joints. You can taste the care in its preparation. SMH ‍ TIP : Make them transfer your prescription to a pharmacy who has it in stock via their confirmation by call. You can get it filled faster and INSURE they call themselves, please don't let them redirect you, or gaslight you into thinking that it's your responsibility! This is literally the whole reason the pharmacy exists! ^^^Also, don't be afraid to ask for a MANAGER . Naturally some employees are nice and some are clueless it just depends! I was not only grateful to see that they're in business, but their selection and variety had me feeling like I was inside a Time Machine and was taken back in time. Everyone was kind and patient and answering my questions. I even had the pleasure of speaking with them over the phone, and my experience was equally pleasant. All the shelves and floors are immaculate, clean and spotless. The meat department was packed with all different kinds of cuts and there's enough cheese and olives in here to satisfy just about anyone. For anyone coming here for the first time I definitely recommend you get one or two items from each department. Try their produce and drinks that come from different places like Russia, Armenia and Iran. Don't forget to try their bakery and sandwiches. Grab you some coffee and tea as well. She has a repeated tendency to cut me off while I'm speaking. She can't be bothered to hear me out. It seems to me they need customer service training to be nice and not act bothered. They don't act like they like their job Or like they care about clients. Arleen tried to help, but in the end didn't really acknowledge the poor behavior. She should've been genuinely apologetic and told me it won't happen again. Not so, instead I got a ton of excuses as to why my prescription isn't ready yet. It's the annoyed tone that just wants clients not to bother them that is offsetting.
