We were seated after about an hour wait after our 1st check in. After 10 minutes our server - who explained she was training and it was her 1st day came to the table without the server training her. Needless to say, she didn't know the menu and needed to come back again to get details on our meal (this is not her fault, and who made the decision to have a trainee work her 1st day on a holiday without supervision). We did receive our food, but couldn't get a refill on my iced tea because our server never check in on us. I didn't see our actual server until I had completed my meal. I asked to see the manager. I explained all of this to the manager and she had zero empathy for our situation. Instead, she defended the ladies at the front and said the training server was one of her better servers. All she offered was a faint, half-hearted apology. I've worked as a server and can understand when someone is in the weeds. In this case, it was just horrible service, and a manager who didn't appear to understand what quality service is. The food was fine ... not sure if it is worth the hassle.

The cold brew itself was really good--smooth and not overly sweet, which I appreciated. The cold foam was just okay; I thought it was a little weak in both flavor and texture and would've loved it to be fluffier and more flavorful. Still, I enjoyed the drink overall. Service was incredibly quick, especially considering how busy they were. Our coffee and food came out almost immediately. Luckily we are usually able to find street parking within walking distance. Inside is quite spacious with lots of seating. There is a good list of food options usually ranging from sandwiches to wraps, bowls and pastries. They even have ube coconut loaf which was also sweet and satisfying! we tried their sammys and chicken caesar wrap and they are delicious. The coffees are made well too with great seasonal flavors. Their peanut butter mocha is yummy! Another bonus for me is their family-friendly atmosphere with a baby-changing area in their restroom and the fact that there is a playground right across! I had to wait almost 10 minutes to order because initially there was only one older woman working and she didn't acknowledge me the whole time. There was one other small group there waiting to order as well. Finally another worker arrived to take orders, a large guy with long hair. I got my coffee 10 min later, and also ordered a few more things for my husband and kids. My daughter asked the man working for an ice water and he started giving her a hard time saying she has to order something. My husband signaled to him, showing him our stuff at the table saying we ordered. So the worker reluctantly gave her an ice water. We stayed for about 20 min then left. Less than 5 min after leaving at 7:13, I realized I had to use the bathroom before we drove home and I walked back in and asked for the bathroom code. They wouldn't give me the code to the bathroom! I know they remembered me, because the place was empty. I reminded them we had purchased several items and we JUST left. None of us had used the restroom while we were there either. They said "if you leave the store and come back it's a 'new occurrence' and you have to purchase something else"... this is absolutely bat$!t crazy. They proceeded to tell me this is "Starbucks policy". I will say it again: I have been a Starbucks customer for MANY years. I've been to various Starbucks, in various cities and states, and have NEVER had this happen. I would never give this location another dime. Disgusting treatment of PAYING customers!

I also ordered their frittata sandwich on rosemary focaccia. This is definitely something you wouldn't expect to find in your average cafe! The sandwich was hot and definitely made that day. The frittata had chopped up bits of bacon and cheddar throughout and paired well with the rosemary focaccia. They definitely thought out of the box with that one. What sets this place apart from the others is that they serve you with a smile. From the moment you order to the when your food is handed of the customer service here is top notch. I can see it being cramped during rush hours in the morning... luckily I came by on a weekday afternoon and was the only one there. Rook prides itself on having a small and simple menu. They only sell hot pour-over single origin coffee and cold brew. They picked a few things to perfect and do really well. So for espresso lovers, you're out of luck. BUT don't let that steer you away because their drinks are phenomenal. They use high quality, premium beans. The employee was extremely helpful with guiding me through the menu and giving me recommendations. I love that milks and sweeteners are available at no additional charge! They also have decaf and half caf options. I ordered a Vanilla Cold Brew (regular size $5.50) with milk and sugar. And let me tell you... it was love at first sip! It was probably the best cold brew I've ever had. Super smooth, rich, and creamy. The vanilla flavor wasn't overpowering and added just the right amount of sweetness. I definitely understand why so many people love their coffee. I wish there were more locations closer to North Jersey because I can see myself becoming a regular.
