Well I can't say that there is anything unique as far as how this place looks however I will give my honest feedback in regards to their pastries so when it comes down to their bread I will say that it's very good the flavors are not overpowering has a nice settled blend and a combination of whatever the description of the bread is , so I will say that is pretty good. This happens most of the time I go in to this location. I come in. People are busy. Several customers are waiting for an order or GrubHub is picking up too many orders. I stand at the counter, being the first one in line. Someone stands in line behind me. A worker is getting drinks. Doesn't look up to see she has customers. 2 people go in the kitchen. Another comes from the bread area and goes into the kitchen. I am still standing there. Not 1 employee looks up to say "we'll be with you shortly" to acknowledge our existence. Finally, someone walks in front of me again, without acknowledgement. I say "excuse me" nothing. I repeat it. Nothing. I repeat it and this time ask for the manager. The man says "I'm the manager." I say "all we want as customers is to be acknowledged that you will be with us shortly." He says "I did not see you." I commiserate s I had forgotten that I am invisible. Again, show some humanity and customer service. If not, the company can just make it a kiosk where people input their order and a machine spits it out. read more

A dear friend of mine brought me here during a trip to LA- She told me that usually the pastries weren't pre-packaged, which was surprising because the packaging was so cute and convenient that I would've never noticed it was a recent last minute change due to the global pandemic! As soon as we entered the cafe, an employee kindly handed us trays to pick out our sweets and asked if we had any questions. The first thing that anyone should know about me is that I'm a slut for anything with sweet red bean paste in it, so naturally I asked him to point me in the direction of the nearest red bean treat. I went in only expecting to purchase that, but everything was so inexpensive that I ended up picking out like 5 pastries! I'm so picky about sweets but everything was delicious, light and fluffy, not to mention not too sweet at all. I got treats with ube in them, as well as an egg pastry and a cream filled bun, and demolished them all by the end of the road trip. It's our first time tmgetting goodies from here although we have heard about this place so many times already. We just happened to be attending an event at the Alex Theatre and it was across the street. There were a lot of cakes and pastries we wanted to try but decided on the creme cheesecake and the tiramisu. This place was a wonderful addition to add to Glendale! After trying this place somewhere else a couple years before, I knew that they would be a good place to buy some snacks from if they were just a bit closer to where I lived. The multiple choices for desserts and snack portions are really enjoyable to eat while walking around the area. I love the taro and choco bun, especially when they're brought out fresh. Honestly, all of them are better fresh! So when they are yelling "Fresh bread!" on the tray and refilling the section for you to pick from the self-serve, just get that item, no matter what it is! The bacon and cheese bread, cheese dog, garlic cheese, ham and tuna sandwich, etc. are all must haves here. I love how every Monday here they have the deal for 85 cent coffees! I was going to give a lower review when they took it out because it was only for a limited time, but the fact that they added the deal back in showed how much they learned that it was a good deal to promote and keep permanently! Only negative is that the promotion was switched from the sea salt coffee to regular coffees. If you pass by and miss the deal, but still want to try the sea salt coffee, you should do so. It's tasty. I got a boba milk tea there also, and it was real thirst quencher for me, especially after trying out their foods. The establishment is pretty small, so lines will occasionally be long here, especially on Monday for the coffee deals. Love 85C! This location is on the smaller side but I haven't seen it get super busy, so I usually don't have to wait long. The bread section is on the right as you enter. Like at other 85Cs, you grab a tray and tongs and load up your tray with breads and pastries. If you want a drink or cake/other dessert from the refrigerated case, you order at the register when you pay for the self-serve pastries. Everything in the self-serve section is super fresh because it's baked throughout the day. My favorite drinks are the peach tea with lychee jelly or sea salt jasmine green tea. I've only had the drinks at this location but all were really good. I've had the Iced Grapefruit Green Tea, Iced Peach Green Tea, Iced Passion Fruit Green Tea, Pudding Milk Tea, and Rose Milk Tea. I'm more partial to the fruit teas if you couldn't tell... They're refreshing and not too sweet. The workers were very polite and friendly. Their Covid-19 procedures were implemented nicely. Customers are asked to wait outside for an employee to let you in and the door stays closed to limit the number of guests inside the bakery. There's a marker right in front of the entrance so they'll see you. The wait is pretty short and in case there is a line, they've placed little markers on the ground to the left of the entrance to make social distancing easier (and to avoid blocking the entrance to the restaurant next door). When you enter, there is a hand sanitizer station and they will ask you if you need a tray since they're not stacked out anymore. There's also an area inside (where the seating used to be) where you can wait for your drinks while spacing out. It's efficient and clear enough that I don't feel awkward going in! read more

I finally tried this place and it was an average bakery... nothing we tried was neither amazing nor terrible.

With Porto's a few spots down the road, one has to wonder what compelled 85 to open in this location. However, long term fans of the Asian bakery are well-aware that comparing the two behemoths is akin to comparing apples to oranges. Asian bakeries are far more different than the Cuban offerings. For one, the Asian baked goods tend to be less sweet and consist of oddly satisfying flavor combinations like hot dogs with syrup and green onions or orange chicken buns. I have no idea who makes this stuff up, but I imagine they smoked a bowl then went about baking. I have had damn near every item that 85 sells, but I'll focus on the ones I enjoy: Brioche is fluffy, sweet but not sugary, and light. Reminds me of a less sweetened Hawaiian bread loaf. Cheese dog is a space ship to flavor town; a savory treat served in a light cheesy bun. Hawaiian chicken tastes like Hawaiian pizza turned in to a bun. Milk pudding is sweet and airy. My big tip is to not go towards closing as the selection dwindles a couple hours before they close up shop, and they stop making a majority of items at that time. I also personally avoid the refrigerated goods which I find to be generally lacking in flavor. The drinks are good, but I mainly stick with the cold, sweetened stuff. Everything is pretty cheap at $3-5 an item. Plus they donate all the extra bread to the homeless, so you have to give them credit for that. read more

So we decided to go here for breakfast and it was a great choice. It was very clean inside and smelled of fresh bread! And everytime a new, fresh tray of bread came out, everyone would say "Fresh bread!" I thought that was pretty cute. I came an hour to an hour and a half before closing on a week night and more than half of the cases were empty. I'm not sure if that's normal for this location or what was going on, but usually I expect more than 8-10 choices of bread when visiting an 85 Degrees. Since none of the breads I usually get were available (i.e. milk swirl, marble taro, cheese hot dog *note, not official name*), I decided to take the road less traveled and get the squid ink corn, cheese and chicken bread and caramel danish--mostly because they were both half off. Both were all right, but I probably wouldn't get them again in the future. I did get the coconut cubes and they were delicious though! Also on sale, I believe. Service was good overall, I can't speak to the sitting space since I took mine to go. You walk in, grab a tray (DON'T FORGET THE LINER) and some tongs and just go to town on whatever you want in the pastry section. Once you're done picking, you fall in line to pay. They also have a lot of pastries, my daughter really liked the brownie I brought her. There is metered street parking and free 90 minutes in the lot behind the businesses off of Orange. They are finally open! Today was the soft opening of 85°C Bakery Cafe in Glendale, between Brand & Wilson. The space they have taken up is inside the old Woolworth Building, next to Halal Guys. This 85°C is not as spacious as the Pasadena location but it's clean and inviting. There's adequate seating and restrooms are available towards the back of the cafe. Plenty of pastries were available as were their cakes and a limited menu of drinks. Staff informed me that they will have the rest of their baked goods available on March 10th. I love 85 degrees! They have such a good option of delicious and cheap baked goods. I love their choco bun, cranberry cream cheese bun, and cheese roll. They also have boba drinks and coffee available, but I have never tried them. Each baked good is under $2, and they are pretty good portioned! If you are looking for some good snacks to go, stop by and get some. When you walk in, you pick up a tray and are given a pair of tongs. From there, just go and select each goodie from it's box. In short, this place is a slightly above average type of bakery, has efficient but stressed out workers, lacks certain basic cleanliness practices (like making sure to wear gloves when touching the cake especially after touching the money at the cash register), and does not write on cakes if the cake writer is gone for the day. Here are the details. I've been going to 85c on and off for about a decade (mostly in Orange County). So I am very familiar with their food, service and quality. For this location, appearance-wise the entire bakery gets a B- because it was a little dark and not cheery in atmosphere like other locations. They had a bunch of light bulbs that were not turned on or were burned out. Moreover, i was concerned about their workers because they looked stressed out and rush. The "traditional tiramisu" cake I bought tasted great, but was not spectacular. The tiramisu down the street at portos tastes a little better and looks more beautiful because it actually has lady fingers on the side and this nice wavey chocolate fondant-like covering on top if you buy the round shaped one. Another thing i did not like about this place is that they could not hand write a simple happy birthday message because their cake writer was out for the day (even though it was 2pm on a busy Friday afternoon, lol). At Portos, most of the workers can write on the cake the whole time they are open. What the lady did instead was take a pre-made one inch by one inch plastic sheet that said happy birthday and placed it on top of the cake. By the way, she did not use gloves and she was previously touching money at the cash register before touching the sheet which touched the cake. Lastly, they have very pedestrian candles. They are just the most simple and average looking red short candles that you can buy t a 99cent store. I wish they had like 10 different options, like the ones that sparkle, have different flame colours or would light-up again after blowing them. But to be fair, most cakeshops do not have these things, which is odd, because blowing out a cake is part of the fun of having a birthday cake, right? Lol! read more
