Either way, I entered this petite shop and found numerous well clad Spanish citizens donning stylish hats appropriate for the chilly winter day. I initially wanted to purchase a male's wool newsboy cap, but this brown Italian-made hat jumped off the shelf onto my head. The force of the hat was too strong. So I purchased it and left with a new hat on my head. The hats vary in prices and style, anywhere from 5€ for a souvenir hat to 100+€ for special hats. Even though this shop is in the heart of a touristy zone, this shop does not seem touristy. They cater to hat loving clientele. This shop harkens back to a different era, with beautifully stacked hat boxes. I highly recommend this shop.

Surprisingly, despite the location, it was also rather reasonably priced. Even here, I was happy to find the Elosegui brand of headwear, which was founded in 1858 in Tolosa, in the Basque Country (northeastern Spain). Various Basque headwear is pretty hard to find anywhere, especially of good quality (this was made out of wool to keep your head warm in the winter), so I was pleased to find it in Casa Yustas and was able to buy a particular one that is typical of the Basque country's Pyrenees region for myself (boina pirineos, yes, that specific!) - both as a souvenir and as something I can wear often! Customer service was a bit worn because of the gamut of tourists outside the doors, but also friendly once they see you're interested in actually buying something. I would peruse through the selection here again if I do come back to the area.

The shop itself is small, very low-key, and quiet. You definitely feel you're in the Old World. There are also tons of eateries around as well, and they tend to be lower priced than those on the Plaza. I went by looking for flat caps. They have a very nice selection, although not as large as you'll find at Casa Yustas on the Plaza Mayor. The caps tend to be more expensive than those at Casa Yustas, but I think the workmanship is better. Visit both shops and make your own decision. The two ladies working there were polite and friendly. I'm not sure if they spoke English, however.

Their selection is understated and with that understatement, distinctive. Cashmere/wool blend hats, chestnut brown bluchers, wooden sunglasses, WeWood watches (I already own one), and there's more downstairs. Keep your eyes peeled. Although I didn't make a purchase I am sure a lot of people are buying if they are able to maintain such a large location in the heart of Barcelona.
