957 The Spot is the trend in radio. More of what people want on their way to and from work. No garbage showbiz pranking etc. The station offer hits from the 70s 80s 90s and the early otts. No worthless morning yapping. You get about 30 minutes of music before a limited commercial break and back to the music. Artist include Prince, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Flock of Segals, Elton John, and some 70s dance. So I don't listen to the radio that often but whenever I'm tired of the songs on my iPod I flip on the radio to see what's new. This is the station I turn to for my HOT HITs. They are a fairly new station so they aren't saturated with ads yet. They a lot of requests and they actually play some variety of music. They tend to have a lot more dance type remixes on this station which I love!!! Just imagine 104 KRBE with less talk. read more

This review is only for the HOT Show, the morning radio show with PK, Sarah Pepper, and Ivan. I am a San Francisco transplant to Nashville, and I love listening to morning radio shows as podcasts. My favorites remain the San Francisco shows of Sarah and Vinnie (97.3FM) and Fernando and Greg (99.7FM). However, when I am assigned to jobs that allow me to listen to podcasts all day, I find myself out of things to listen to (and I am not a music fan). I tried Kevin and Bean from Los Angeles' KROQ station, but I listen to them out of desperation -- like when my main podcasts are on vacation / hiatus. I don't remember how I came across the HOT Show, but I am glad I did. The show is a mixture of entertainment news/gossip, weird news, and brief glimpses into the personal lives of the hosts. In between are the songs that play on the station, but they mostly do not show up during the podcasts (except by accident). I've only listened to several weeks' worth of podcasts, but they are already fast becoming a favorite. They have a "Whatcha Doin' at the Courthouse?" segment. They interview celebrities. They talk about the stuff that modern morning radio shows do (but not do the stunts from morning "zoos" of days gone by). They're easy to like -- and they can get annoying at times. PK is a strong personality on the show. At first I thought he was African American, but when I saw one of the UStreams, I was completely wrong. I notice that Sarah Pepper is often trying to say something, but PK's commentaries tend to mute her until she can get a word in. I don't know Ivan's role, except to add a "Latin" flavor to cater to the demographics of Houston. Although, both Ivan and Sarah like to point out that PK is the foreigner in the group, since he was born in Greece, whereas the other 2 were born in the States. When the group is on air, the vibe is very on point -- meaning, they don't speak in a relaxed tone that I am used to from my Bay Area shows. They are very broadcast-ish, is the best I can describe it. I can tell they have an agenda of things they want to discuss, and they tend to get to them in a timely manner. By contrast, my Sarah and Vinnie show almost never get to half of the items on their list, because they always go on tangents that delve into their personal lives (which makes the show very personable, in my opinion). Overall, I love the HOT Show, and it is already in my top 3 morning radio podcasts I look forward to listening to every weekday. read more

I've gone to two events sponsored by this station and they've both been horrific. I'll never give my money to anything with their name on it again. Earlier this summer, they sponsored a concert on a tour I wanted to go to. There were 4 bands on the tour, so imagine my shock when I arrive at the venue and find out the radio station added an extra 4 bands to the bill. My friends and I had gotten our tickets via a presale and won early entry, but the staff forgot about us for a long time while letting the people who had won tickets/entry via the station inside. When we finally got in, the station staff tried to make us leave because they didn't want us to watch sound check. One of the tour staffers told us that they were still soundchecking only because the 4 radio-sponsored bands showed up two hours late. This weekend I went to another show sponsored by them. I drove 3 hours and paid $20 to see Travie McCoy. There was almost no information about the show online, but eventually we found out the doors were at 9. First, they let people into the club for free despite charging $20 for tickets in advance online. Then the told us Travie would go on at 12 or 12:30. It was 1:15 before he actually performed, and they only let him do 5 songs before signaling for him to leave. Biggest rip off! On top of this, the radio personalities there were incredibly annoying. They kept bringing people on stage who had no business being up there, even when security tried to make them leave, and the dude in particular was being really sleazy and grinding up on all the girls on stage. read more

Previously a smooth jazz outlet as "95.7 The Wave", the station debuted its format on March 13, 2008, at 3:00 P.M.[1] The format will use an interactive approach and has positioned its Rhythmic hit-flavored direction in-between KBXX and KRBE. "We're very excited to have Booker & Sarah join the Hot team," said Hot/Houston PD Mark Adams. "I feel they're two of the most passionate, fun and entertaining morning show personalities out there, and I'm confident they'll do a great job here in Houston." On Thursday, March 26, 2009 the station started running format change promos by the Station Manager. Dave Morales put the Station Manager on-air (unknown to him) to ask why...and what was going on. The station manager just passed the buck and blamed CBS management and could not provide further information. When he found out he was on-air he slammed down the phone. The "changeover" was supposed to take place at 6:00am Central time on Monday, March 30, 2009. There were rumors that said it would be an Urban station, similar to KBXX (97.9 The Box) and the defunct KPTY Party 93.3, this was because there was an ad for an LA AMP 97.1 urban station on the bottom of the page. But many calls to the management or e-mails to the management were bilingual, hinting that they were pursuing a Latino format, however The Pussycat Dolls were scheduled to appear in studio on Monday, the day "the switch" would be taking place.[citation needed] The entire "change" for March 30, 2009 was apparently a marketing ploy. The station "changed" to BRIT 95.7 to coincide with Britney Spears/Pussycat Dolls concert at the Toyota Center the same evening. The station played nothing but Britney Spears Music, and some Pussycat Dolls Music all day. The format changed back to HOT 95-7 at midnight. KHJZ's former smooth jazz format is available at khjz.com. In mid-March, KHJZ announced that the smooth jazz format will be available on HD Radio (HD-2 Channel) in May 2008, but for some reason that claim disappeared on the KHJZ website. The smooth jazz music player is available on the KHJZ Website at khjz.com. (Currently, the format is available locally on KODA's 99.1-HD2 subchannel.) This station used to the best station in the Houston Metro area until they changed the music format. It was fine on 12/30, but was ruined when I tuned in on 12/31. Now I'm being forced to listen to 96.7 which in my opinion is a mediocre station. If I could rate this a ZERO STARS I would. read more

This station is not new, but is exercising a new format. After listening for a few days, I've decided that its primarily an 80's station that's trying to appeal to late GenX'ers(1970-1981), with songs from heavy metal to hip-hop. That generation is my generation. Generation X was aptly named because in the mathematical nomenclature "X" is unknown. That's an accurate description, because unlike the War generation, the Baby Boomers, and perhaps the Millenials, there was no consensus that defined us or drew a path to how we should live our lives. Gen X'ers are as likely to have kids as to not, likely to be veterans as not, and likely to be techies, or Luddites. Concerning this station, I can appreciate some of the songs, but I'm certainly not married to them like the Boomers were to the 60's and 70's. So, the question is can this format survive? Well, there's times I miss the 80's, but I wouldn't want to go back permanently. advertising is the mother's milk of radio. However, I cant see an enmasse uniform allegiance to this radio station. Nope, the Boomers ruined that when they decided to make us part of the first large statistic of single parent families. So, it is difficult to have devotion to concepts, let alone a product. We saw through a lot of the BS; consumerism, patriotism, and academia. As a character in one of the few Gen X oriented movies asked when facing problems twenty five years ago," Why cant things work out like on the Brady Bunch?" To which another GenX'er replied," Because Mr. Brady (Robert Reed) died of AIDS." Yep and "Family Ties'" Mrs. Keaton changed her sexual preference, and America's Dad, Mr. Huxtable was most likely not Mr. Fidelity. read more
