I don't like to leave negative reviews. Therefore, I'll keep it short and simple. There's no reason for me to return to this store. They lacked customer service, cleanliness and what's more disappointing , no price tags . I noticed many of the items that had price tags were incorrect. The lines are always terrible here and the employees love to grab someone standing in the very back of the line when they are opening a register. Today I wanted for ten minutes while a cashier stopped in the middle of checking someone out to have a long drawn out conversation about scheduling a cashier. I saw that the express lane light was on (meaning open) so moved to that line. The express lane cashier said rudely, sorry I'm CLOSED. Then why was the light on? I had to move to the THIRD line and start all over. Then as I was leaving I walked by the same express lane and saw that the cashier who said she was closed was OPEN and waiting on a bunch of male customers. So 99 cent store is not only disorganized they are SEXIST and discriminate against women customers. Get your act together 99 cent store! And don't go here! Family dollar employees are so much nicer and the prices are much better! read more

My husband went to this store and he finally found some hand sanitizer. It was priced at $3.99 and it was normally $1 for that particular size. This is 3 times the normal amount. This is a perfect example of price gouging. read more

Yesterday I was told to wait in line by a manager so I did. Thinking cool #2 in line. Another line started to form on the opposite side. Been in line 10 minutes, 15-20 people had already exited the store. A young female Who relieved the manager, points in our direction and says to go in but stops me when I tried to enter. She says I need to wait in line. My response, I've been in line this whole time before that other line started. She told the other lady to go inside who was standing on the opposite line. I couldn't believe it, I was told to wait again. The female employee says to me, no the lady has been in line before you. Of course I got upset. She basically calling me a liar. I felt discriminated and embarrassed. There were no structures, bad communications and the employee I dealt with had no customer service skills. I was arguing with this employee at the entrance in front 30 other people. Obviously feeling disrespected and angry I walk away before things got worse. I'm not the type to judge people work ethics but when it involves me there's a problem. I see a bunch of young kids who work there who doesn't know how to greet their customers or talk appropriately around customers. They can speed up more if they stop gossiping so much as cashiers and pay attention more. Not all are bad but majority can clean up their acts. read more

If I Could give a negative rating I would !!!!! The incident occured May 6 , 2014 around 7 PM Aisle Four in front of the lady with the pink hair. I was in line waiting patiently when a older couple in front of us was getting ringed up. First of all the cashier tossed their items as if she didn't have a care in the world. Then she asked the older lady where she got the conditioner and the older lady didn't know what aisle . She had a rude attitude and said nevermind I'll look it up myself !! And she turned around to the other cashier and gave her a irritated look. The older couple had a lot of items and was still putting their bags into the cart . When the rude cashier rang up the next customer and just threw the bag at the customer. The older man was having a hard time reaching the last bag by the registar and the cashier just ignored the fact they were still there . Honestly your POOR customer service skills should be enough to get you fired. No one deserves to be treated like that read more

this is a great alternative to the BIG grocery store across the street they do have about 5 or so aisles of food products - have found some interesting and good buys there they have a refridged/frozen section as well - just be careful when they put out new items in the cases - I have seen shark feeding frenzies that were calmer they get veggies that are sometimes not quite pretty but if you use them within a day or two they are good just make sure that you check experation date labels on some products read more

I was at the 99cent store when I had to go to the restroom and OMG!!! The restrooms are horrible! They are so dirty, no toilet paper and no seat covers.. I had to wait til I go to another store to use the restroom.. doesn't the manager come and see the restrooms. They need to seriously remodel their restrooms.. worse than the gas stations ones.. so disgusting read more

I love it here. Cheap cheap cheap. The only thing wrong is the fruit usually goes bad quickly but that's why they sell it so cheap. So I just don't buy fruit there anymore. The cashier today was really nice and friendly. Great place to shop. read more

Let me start by saying I shop at this store regularly. It has some great deals, and does carry brand names at greatly reduced prices, in addition to the usual generic, never-saw-or-heard-of-this-brand-before items (soups, sodas, canned fruits/vegetables, cereals, etc.). It's a very large store, one of the biggest 99-Cent stores I've ever been in (it used to be a Montgomery Ward department store). The selection of items is excellent, the aisles are wide, and the service--for the most part--is pretty good. However, there are three glaring exceptions: 1) Shopping carts. There are NEVER enough shopping carts near the front doors--sometimes there aren't any at all, and you have to go hunting all over the (VERY big) parking lot to find one. They need to send employees out more often to gather the loose carts and line them up near the front doors. 2) Checkout lines: The checkout lines are almost ALWAYS understaffed. I don't know how many times I, or other customers, had to tell a cashier to get the manager and tell him to open more checkout lines because there were so many customers waiting (once I counted 14 people waiting in one line, 12 people waiting in the next line and 10 in the line next to that, when there were three other registers that were closed; people were so angry they were getting ready to riot). And when you finally do get ahold of the manager, he looks at you like you were bothering him. Not cool. 3) Rest rooms. There were times when the men's room smelled so bad when I walked in that I immediately walked out again. That's not an isolated incident. Many times there are used paper towels on the floor, the sinks are filthy, the stalls are often out of toilet paper or the toilets themselves are plugged up or overflowing. Again, when you tell the manager about it, you're usually met with a stony glare, followed by, "Yeah, all right, I'll take care of it as soon as I can", and you'll go back a half-hour or so later and nothing has been done (I know the same thing happens in the womens' bathrooms, too). They've got to do a better job--a MUCH better job--of keeping the restrooms clean. As I said, I shop there regularly and in general I'm very satisfied with the store. It just needs a lot of work in those three areas I mentioned to make it better. UPDATE, 11/14/17: It's been more than a month since I wrote this review, and two things have changed. (1) The restroom situation has gotten better. Apparently I wasn't the only one to complain about it, because the last few times I've been there and used the men's room, it was much cleaner and smelled much better. (2) The checkout line situation has gotten worse, and tonight was one of the worst ones I've experienced in quite some time. At 5:00 pm, when many people are stopping by after work to pick up items before they go home, there were three checkout lines open, but one of them closed down just as I walked in the door. I counted more than 30 people standing in line in the two checkout lines that were open, and most of them were definitely NOT happy campers. There was a lot of grumbling, along the lines of "What the hell's wrong with them, shutting down a register when there's so many people waiting? They do this all the time!", and other comments that aren't exactly printable. I had about 10 small items in my cart, but after standing around for 10 minutes or so, and with the line hardly moving at all, I got fed up, walked out and drove to WalMart, a mile or so down Henderson. I wound up spending about $50 there, on items that I could have gotten at the 99-Cent store if they knew how to run the place right. As I was pulling out of their parking lot I saw an older couple that had been standing in back of me on line coming out the front door, also empty-handed, so the store lost another sale, and I'm sure we weren't the only ones who left like that. If anyone from the 99-Cent Store is reading this, you need to do something about this checkout line situation or you're going to lose more customers to WalMart, the Dollar Tree in the mall across the street or the Dollar General on Olive. If I see more lines like that the next time I go to your store, with most of the registers closed, you'll lose me as a customer. Permanently. And I won't be the only one. UPDATE, 4/17/18: The men's room problem hasn't recurred, it's much better than it was. Unfortunately, the checkout line problem HAS recurred. Tonight it was as bad as I've seen it. Only 2 registers open, 15 or 16 people in line, several with what looked like dozens of items in their carts, others with only 2 or 3, and the lines moving like molasses. People complained to the cashier about it, one guy said he just wanted a calling card and had already waited 20 minutes. Other people just left their carts and walked away, which is what I also did--AGAIN. No more, though. You had your chances to get your act together, and you couldn't be bothered. The Woman's restroom was disgusting. So dirty, no toilet paper, the sink and the faucets were dirty and corroding, the waste receptacle was full and spilling onto the floor. I don't know how they can get away with this being that that sell fresh food and produce. Nasty. read more
