This was easily one of the worst barber shop experiences I've had. Don't expect the posted business hours to mean anything. The shop seems to open and close whenever it's convenient, so there's a good chance you'll waste your time driving there only to find it closed. If it is open, be prepared to wait. Service is extremely slow, and everything feels disorganized. It doesn't seem like customers' time is respected. The atmosphere is completely unprofessional. The shop smelled like weed during my visit, there was a child constantly making noise and running around, and the owner's dog actually tried to bite me. That alone was enough to make me never want to come back. I shouldn't have to worry about being bitten while getting a haircut. The owner also came across as rude and dismissive. Asking basic questions felt like I was bothering her, and the overall attitude made an already frustrating experience even worse. The haircut itself was disappointing, especially for someone with longer hair. It was uneven, poorly blended, and nowhere near worth the price. For what she charges, I expected much better quality and attention to detail. Between the unreliable hours, excessive wait times, unprofessional environment, aggressive dog, poor customer service, and overpriced haircut, I can't recommend this place. A-1 Barbershop is the best barber shop in town to get a straight razor fade, at a reasonable price. I've been to at least 10 different Barbershops in Rapid City and most won't even do a straight razor. So, if you are military or a Veteran, check A-1 Barbershop out and get a close cut and a good fade. read more

I would give it a 10 if I could. I wound up with a patch in my hair due to some unfortunate events and came up here to see if Tyce could work his magic on the mishap. I had my hair at a 1/16 and he STILL blended with excellence, showing true craftsmanship. Typically, black customers tend to go to Chevy, but, Tyce is just as gifted with the clippers (dare I say better?) as well as Sunday/Tuesday/Wednesday (I forget her name m, but, she's good as well). So this is a place you go to get a straight razor fade and more...i.e beard trim, hot towel, and more. With that being said the owner/operator is a real people person who will go out of her way to get to know you. It feels like you been going there forever. She will take her time to give you what you want. Closed mouths dont get fed. Speak up and tell her what you want and she will knock it out of the park. Prices are feasible. Haircut is $11 and Shaves are $12. Came here after other locations closed at 12pm on Saturdays. I had 2 people ahead of me when I walked in. Place has tinted windows and ac that helps keep you cool. One 1 person working at the time I showed up. 5 waiting chairs, a TV and 2'sitting chairs to cut your hair. read more

I went to this place because it had all but one good review but I wish I would have read more carefully. Only 1 is from in SD, which I know can be for various reasons but if the place is so good it should have some in town reviews by now. I came in and she said the wait was 45 min and I could come back. I had somewhere to be @ 1 and she closed at 1 but she told me to call her after I was done. I called her about 1:40ish and she said come on down and that she was "just finishing up" someone in the chair. So I get in and she is giving the man a shave. She spends more time talking to me than working on his cut/shave and takes over an hour to even sit me down. Then she asks how I want it done and I tell her that I am fine with the length on top so just a trim there and a LOW FADE. We talk some more about the top and she asks how I want the sides which I found strange since we just talked about it but I said again A LOW FADE. To me a low fade is around ear level but I get to others it could be higher, I have a high and tight fade right now. I THINK she messed up when she started but instead of coming clean she just gave me a higher fade The fade was a decent fade but my lord did she not blend the rest in. It is a bit ironic that I have to leave this review because we got to talking about reviews and I said people are quick to leave bad ones. I very much appreciated that she was willing to take me in after closing hours but if my end result was from her working too long that day, as she mentioned she was tired from the night before, then she shouldn't take people in. Also the owner, I forget your name though I am not sure I ever got it, I told you I liked the hair cut because I didn't want to be there anymore as I already saw the fade was too high and could see that I hated how the rest looked and just wanted out. You didn't show me you could cut my hair the first time so I wasn't going to let you attempt to fix it. MAYBE if you came out and told me "Hey I messed up let me fix this" then I might have thought about it. I am not trying to be two-faced but that is the truth. If you care for your craft you KNOW the haircut I got was not up to par. Just how high the fade was alone meant the hair cut was wrong from the get-go. Luckily Great Clips on Main was able to fix it up and do it on the house so I didn't have to pay for 2 cuts. read more

I'm from out of town and I have to say I was pleased with the service I got from the owner. I walked in and the wait was probably 20 minutes. I asked for a certain type of fade, (razor) and I was very happy with the haircut. I'm sure everyone is selective about someone cutting their hair, and I was actually a little skeptical at first but the overall experience was very pleasant. She was very friendly and we had great a great conversation. I'm possibly moving to this area and I would definitely feel comfortable returning to this shop for a haircut and good conversation. read more
