I did not catch the name of the man who was our hero today, but he was incredibly kind. We were from out of town and locked ourselves out of our car. He arrived within ten minutes and unlocked our car. We were feeling a little uneasy at the gas station we had locked ourselves out of our car at, and he made us feel safe and was very capable. While this man replaced my key fob and made me a second one, he was unfriendly, acted like we were bothering him, and never called us with an update because he hadn't done it even though he had it for several days. Then he said that he'd have it done in an hour when we called and we showed up a few minutes early and he got really mad.. if he's your only option, I'd say go to him, but if you have another option, I'd say stay away. read more

I don't know that this is a fair review but note this is a mobile business. Tried coming up to get a key cut Saturday afternoon, checked the hours only to find out there was nobody around. Call first to schedule if you need a key made. I drove up from Carolina beach on a Saturday for nothing. That sucked. I recently purchased my new home and at closing, I was surprised to get my key. That's right, "key" -- they only had one key for the entire house, which only worked on ONE LOCK that was for an added on keypad deadbolt lock. Frustrated, I called A-1 coastal and a technician named Eric came out to my rescue. Not only did he re-key all the locks so everything matches, he also changed out a knob that was not in working order and made 4 original keys RIGHT THERE IN MY DRIVEWAY! I appreciated the reasonable fees along with his patience while my 4 year old nephew was running around trying to 'help.' I have a Ford F150 Lariat King Cab and of course I lost the key and I looked and looked and looked and I just did not know what to do because the keys you just cannot have them made they have pre-programmed and everyone I called wanted so much money and they couldn't even tell me a time that they could come out there it's not like they could come right out then after you hung up there telling me maybe tomorrow or the next day Meanwhile my business truck sitting still and I'm stressed out and then I called Eric anyways very nice on the phone made me feel very comfortable and assured me that he could be out there within a couple hours program me a key Henry make me a key so I could get back on the road with my business. needed rekeying so called twice on a saturday and sent e-mail. website shows that they are open. As of 11:00 am monday no call back or response to e-mail. So...called again and got the same voice mail as on saturday which advised to leave info and they would get back to me. in spite of good reviews, it appears that these people have more business than they can handle and are not interested in hiring a receptionist or otherwise making call backs. I can handle too busy so I know to call someone else but the phone deal with "we'll get back to you" is not acceptable. Also...they need to make it clear that they are not open on the weekend. If I was locked out of my car, it would be a chilly ordeal waiting for a call back. I have scheduled my business with another company. Am curious if I will ever get a call back. read more

I called to have a replacement key made for my 2003 Toyota Echo. After insisting that my key has an electronic chip (it doesn't, I tried telling him that and the rude gentleman over the phone argued with me), I was quoted almost $200. I called another locksmith who was extremely helpful, and confirmed that I do not have electronics in my key, and he quoted me $15. I can't help but feel as though Coastal Lock and Key is scamming people who are in need. After reading other reviews, I'm sure these guys do quality work, but I'm not confident that they are informed or honest. read more

I called to find agent to service my job was sick, but they did not bother to call for reschedule. I missed 1/2 day towork for their mistake.
