He was here for about 15-20 minutes and told me I needed to upgraded my equipment and charged me $200. He said there was something unplugged, which there wasn't. After he left the Internet was still not working properly. I found Simply Wired on Yelp, and boy am I happy camper. He came out for a free consultation, sent me a quote within a few days and a list of equipment I needed to purchase (my old equipment was a few years old and I just wanted to start new anyways). After receiving all the items, Brian came out and set it all up. My 'wire closet' or whatever it's called was so messy and full of old wiring and equipment that we couldn't even close the door. Not only can we close it now, but it looks amazing. He also used some of my old equipment to help boost the signal in certain areas. After the install, I had a couple of questions, texted him and he immediately responded. Brian is professional, reasonably priced, has great communication and smart! Don't hesitate to hire him. I would like to extend kudos and thanks to Freddy Lamaire, who I understand works under your supervision. On Dec 22, the (unkeyed) front door latch of my house suddenly failed. Over the Xmas weekend, I tried various Locksmith services and hardware store, and was assured that the lock could not be repaired, nor could it be replaced without serious installation effort. It was "an antique." Having nothing to lose, I took the mechanism apart, and reassembled it after replacing a failed retaining ring. This was a rather painful experience....but I did not do it quite right. The latch worked, but not very smoothly, because I could not install one of the spring-and-cam systems properly. In despair, on the recommendation of Ace Hardware in Carlsbad, I came to your store at 4 pm on December 26. Freddy was manning the counter. He immediately asked what I had done to repair the latch and I told him my story. He agreed that this was an old design, but proceeded to give me a practical lesson in locksmithing, showing me how to figure out the way it functions, and how to put it back together correctly--even though he had never seen that model before. We took the mechanism apart and, between clients, he supervised and helped me understand how it works and what steps to take to reassemble it without so much difficulty. He stayed with me well after the end of his shift, and in the end, I was the proud owner of a working antique latch, which I could douse in WD-40. Freddy declined to charge me any money for his help and teaching. I thought this was a very nice holiday present, and my wife was very happy to have a fully functioning front door again. We stopped by a couple of days later to thank him. Even though I live in Encinitas, I will return to A-1 for my lock and safe needs in the future. Freddy's friendly, patient and courteous help have convinced me that this is the "go-to" store for such needs along the north coast! read more

This locksmith is OK, but could be better. The big guy at the shop cut some Schlagle keys for me, one of them worked if I jiggled it in the deadbolt, the other ones would not work at all. I brought the non-working ones back to the store, the same guy just looked at them and said there is nothing wrong. He never even checked that he cut them exactly like the original pattern key. I asked him why two of the keys had the "teeth" on the bottom and said "Smart key" on the part of the key you hold, he tried to grind them by hand with a needle-nose plier. He got real rude and defensive when I asked him why he cant recut them with the electric machine. He told me his first name (Mark) but said his last name is none of my business, he also threatened me by saying he's a sheriff officer, I think he was lying cause he had no gun or badge and refused to tell me who the shop manager or the owner is. While most of the keys he made eventually worked (while jiggling a little) the employee Mark could use some anger management when dealing with customers. Aside from their keys, A1 is a fully equipped store with lots of locks and safes compared with other locksmiths I've been to near Los Angeles or San Diego and they stay open later so you can get over there after you get out of work at 5. --Jorge read more

I lost my car key late evening in the heart of Vista where the walking dead come out at night. Needless to say it was in a very shady part of town. I was scared and in tears when I called A1 Locksmith. The man who answered my call was attentive, empathetic, and kind. He put my mind at ease. I explained that my car key has a computer chip it so it makes the process much more complicated. He was totally knowledgeable and said he could create a key for me with a chip and I had the choice to add remote capability. Then he informed me of the price and said he could meet me in twenty minutes. He did show up in twenty minutes punctual and friendly. He unlocked my car with ease and speediness (this takes great skill) and created my key. The entire process took about 30mn. I expected the price to be sky high but it was pretty reasonable considering how late it was. I will be going back their shop to get another key made....lesson learned! Not sure why anyone would write a bad review for Mark and Robert.. I drove in on a Monday, without an appointment, and thought I was going to have to come back in 2 days.. Not only did they fix my car on the spot (my key was stuck in the ignition) but they saved me hundreds of dollars over what a dealer would charge.. in fact, this is where the dealers send their work. so cut out the middle man, and give them a call. They truly are the best! I broke my Mitsubishi key last Thursday trying to open my trunk. I called a bunch of other places that were overcharging , so when I called A-1 Lock & Safe they gave me excellent advice & gave me honest options on how I could get my key fixed. Half of my car key was stuck inside of my trunk key hole, they came all they way from their office in Carlsbad & extracted the key for me & created a new key for me. They also didn't close ther office even though it was past their closing time & waited until I arrived which is really amazing & I'm thankful for because they didn't have to do that. Very Happy Customer!! I called A-1 Lock and Safe to get a quote to change my locks. They're prices are very competitive. Mark and Gary arrived to my doorstep within 20mins of my phone call to change the locks. They had notice that one of my doors wasn't very secure, Brought the issue to my attention and I told them to go ahead make it secure. It was a simple fix, lucky. Im grateful they caught it! Doesn't get better than this, while AAA and 10 other locksmith companies were dumbfounded on how to get into the locked trunk of my 2005 BMW, Mark used a simple strategy that got it done in less than 30mins, that could have been done easily by any of the locksmith companies if they had even half the intelligence and experience of Mark. As high of a recommendation as you can get, A-1 is a diamond in the rough in the mess that is the locksmithing business. He opened it and took the back of the door off to make a repair so i had him change the combination while he was at it. I stopped by today since I drive by this place every morning on my way to work. I switched out the circuit board in my old damaged transponder and put it into a new shell, but need a blank key cut onto the new casing. We received very good service when we needed our non responsive safe opened. The keypad quit working and we needed our plane tickets and cash for our Thanksgiving trip.
