We were blown away by their presentation. We had interviewed a couple other DJ groups and were unimpressed by their lack of enthusiasm about working on our wedding. As soon as we walked in the door at Windy City we felt welcomed and that we had found what we were looking for. They have a demonstration set up so you can actually see what the lights will look like on your wedding day so you're not picking randomly through a package you can only visualize through description. They are also willing to crank up their sound system and show you their computers just to help you understand how it all works. He also said we could request any song and as long as it was available on iTunes, he would have it for us, with no additional charge. My (then fiance) husband was SOLD. I was contacted by the DJ we were going to be working with about two weeks before our wedding. He asked me if I had any specific requests. I did. About a week before the wedding I emailed him a specific list of songs I needed played during dinner and then a couple requests (as well as a couple of "if you play these songs, I'll shoot you" songs) for dancing. On the day of, I didn't even need to talk to the DJ once. While some people would think that is a bad thing, I thought it was excellent. The last thing you need on your wedding day is to have to worry about details and our DJ was set up and ready to go as soon as we needed him. If I ever need a DJ, I'll be using Windy City again!

They have a MASSIVE library of music from the 1920's until Today. Big Band, Jazz, Country (classic and pop), Top 40, R&B, Rap, Soul, Classic Rock, Glam Rock, Roots... you name it, they've got it. What's even better is that if (miraculously) they don't have something, they'll get it at no cost to you!! They have a few packages to choose including simple setups for just music to large setups including various light machines and other fun things. They have an on line area where you can setup play lists of specific songs or just genre's. Or you can simply just tell them what NOT to play. You can customize any part of the experience including how involved the DJ will be with your event. Anything from "just play the music" to "get the party started!!" They'll do whatever it takes to make sure that you and, more importantly, your guests have a great time. We hired them for our wedding this past June at Brookfield Zoo. They arrived on time and setup without any interference from us. They stuck to our play list and took some requests from our guests while being respectful of our "no play" list. The DJ took care of all announcements and was articulate and friendly. To be honest, I don't remember seeing the DJ that much even though we were dancing a good part of the night. That is the sign of a good DJ. You only remember the bad ones, right? Big or small... these are the guys you want spinning at your party. They are ultimate professionals and know their stuff. Both Curt and Shawn are very professional and very quick to respond to any questions. When you call them, an actual person answers (it was always either Curt or Shawn when I called). I bought the 4 Star Wedding package and added an additional performance hour and a set of uplights. Their pricing on the uplights is extremely reasonable, because instead of paying for a separate lighting company and their delivery/setup charge, it was wrapped into the cost of the Stax setup, and they were already coming. Music-wise, you can fill in requests and special songs online ahead of time, and they play them. But they stay on top of current music trends, mixing up old and new songs, and switching between slow and dance stuff. With these guys in charge, there was never any need to force people out to the dance floor. Everyone had an amazing time and kept telling me the DJs were great. Also, they posted some great photos and a video montage on facebook - I wasn't expecting that. A couple important things to know - they do charge an extra fee to come into Chicago (they are in Cary after all) and if there's a hard setup location (lots of stairs, etc). And they only accept cashiers checks, certified checks, or cash for payment. Can't say enough good things about this group!

When it came time for my own wedding, I HAD to call Stax O Wax to see if they would come out here to the boondocks (Sterling...2+ hours from where they are based in Cary). Shawn answered my email almost immediately and sent me their pricelist, which shows the different packages they offer. He was very upbeat and professional the couple of times that I spoke to him, assuring me that it was no problem for them to travel for a wedding or other event. Unfortunately, their asking price was more than we had budgeted for our DJ, so I had to tell him thanks but no thanks but if money had been no object, I would have hired them in a second, including paying the extra money they needed for traveling this far - they are THAT good.
