To my vegetarian friends and friends from California, I recommend that you stop reading this review…read morenow. If you do decide to continue, the reason will soon become clear! Fitz Fine Foods is another of my favourite stalls at Borough Market, the foodie paradise of London. It's located in the Green Market where a lot of my favourite stalls seem to be located The reason this stall gets a whole-hearted 5 stars from me is that it's my supplier of fresh foie gras, which is sourced from France. Whole lobes of liver come vacuum packed and cost £27.50. An indulgent treat perhaps but once you've tasted it seared with a crispy shell encasing the richest and most unctuous melt-in-the-mouth delight, preferably offset with something sweet and perhaps a little sour, you know that it's worth every penny Foie gras is my favourite ingredient in the world and Noel Fitzjohn, the stall owner is only too happy to share his cooking tips with you. One invaluable tip that he gave me was that it freezes very well. If you have any leftover foie gras, he recommends that you slice it and he provides little individual freezer bags to put the slices in. These slices cook up brilliantly from frozen Foie gras is also available processed in tins but the fresh stuff is the best He also sells fresh pates and terrines as well as a line of flavoured mustards. When in season, you'll find fresh wild mushrooms and truffles Truly a shop for the gourmet!

The star ingredient is available for smelling in a large jar marked 'Smell me!' Although I've never done drugs, I don't think many smells can beat the umami hit from fresh truffle They also sell truffle products like truffle salt and truflle oil, both secret ingredients I use in my cooking. If you can't afford fresh truffle, truffle salt is a great alternative. I've not tasted the truffle honey they have for sale and can't quite reconcile in my mind a combination of honey and truffle flavours However, Tartufaia also have another very important string to their bow. In a little refrigerated display to the side of their stall, they have different flavoured foie gras parfaits and terrines available for purchase. Wonderful flavours and your friends will be stunned if you serve these at a dinner party. The foie gras parfaits are super rich and I just let a little piece melt in my mouth as an indulgence. The terrines pair well with chutneys at room temperature for a decadent starter Limited products at this stall but definitely a case of quality over quantity!

There are a lot of great stands to visit, selling the most amazing produce, ingredients and ready to eat food In amongst all the varied stands, Sow Gourmet may well be the most unique stall in the market. Thom Harvey, the owner, may well have caught the mood of current food trends. I had joked recently that despite my many cooking gadgets, I'm still missing a vital gadget which I've seen in many fine dining kitchens this year - a pair of tweezers to precisely place microherbs and edible flowers on dishes Sow Gourmet offers you the chance to grow your own microherbs at home. They sell little kits comprising all the components necessary to make a little mini greenhouse to sit on your windowsill. Wet the litlte growing pad and sprinkle on the seeds. Within 7-10 days, the microherbs will be ready to eat. Perfect for people with limited garden space or for foodies looking for something new to experiment with Thom has a variety of his herbs available for you to try and they really do pack a punch of flavour. My favourite, which I've used in dishes is mustard leaf frilly, which initially tastes like baked potato (yes, really!) and finishes with a strong peppery kick. Fortunately, my cooking obsession hasn't yet led to me buying a pair of tweezers! You can buy replacement growing pads and seeds on-line from their website. With whole growing kits (including your first packet of seeds) costing only £5, this would make a nice little stocking gift for any foodies that you know!

The modest booth displayed a variety of "micro-herbs" which are actually the very things you can find in your soups, salads and gourmet dishes in high end restaurants, but that you can grow yourself! This sparked our interested and we stuck around to find that it was extremely easy to grow your own mini gourmet garden. for a £5, you get a nice little container with a bedding sheet and a packet of seeds of your choice. You wet the bedding and spread the seeds around and in a few days you have micro herbs. It doesn't get simpler than that. You can even order seed packet refills online with free delivery! One particular variety I loved was a micro herb which tasted like potato chips, but ended with a bang of wasabi / mustard seed. I know this seems crazy, which I thought as well, but it's actually true! I tasted it at the booth and was able to try it again at home when I grew my packet. Amazing!

I love new lunch places, and when I saw a photo of the beautiful lunch here on my coworker's…read moreInstagram, I knew I had to check it out. The restaurant is very much in ramp up phase, offering a free lunch worth £8 to anyone who signs up to their website with a promo code. I was even given a handful of flyers to take back to my team to distribute and spread the word. The restaurant is located just a few steps away from St. Paul's Cathedral in a small alley, and very sharp looking with iPads, an open plan kitchen, and fresh produce as decorations. There isn't much seating for now, with just a few seats along the wall. They seem to have a partnership with Allpress, the fresh juice place that also has a location near the St Paul's tube station, and sell mini bottles of their juices but not much else. This is hands down the healthiest lunch place I have ever seen. I would rather eat this every day rather than a salad. I had the roast chicken served with sweet potato mash, chickpeas and a kale salad, but there are 5 other options featuring salmon, beef, turkey, a vegetarian option with egg, and a vegan option with avocado. You are able to adjust the portion sizes so you can upsize, downsize, or eliminate options to your liking. Online it will show you the difference in price and calorie count as you customize. I wasn't a big fan of the kale, so I'd probably eliminate that going forward. It also seems possible to add other side dishes that are not on the standard pairing. I could see this happily working out for a low carb diet, as long as you avoid the wild rice, but even that is quite healthy. When you order online, you are able to select a delivery slot for which to pick up your order. I arrived a few minutes before mine, but it wasn't ready before that exact time so that is an important thing to keep in mind. When you order on site via the iPad, I was told that it usually only takes about 3 minutes before it is ready, so I wouldn't say there is a large advantage to ordering online, especially when you consider that if you time the pickup wrong, then your food would be cold! But it would be quite a pain if there is a queue for the iPads to order when this place starts to get more popular. I hope it is very successful, because it's so nice to actually have a novel concept in the area!

It also tells you the calories and fat in the meal so you know what you're eating. It's on the expensive side with approx £7 to get a filling meal but it's not cheap to eat healthy and it's better than spending that on a fatty meal. I'd definitely be going back and you get a free meal on your fifth order which is pretty quick!

A former tannery, this winter season it has been transformed into London's foremost Scottish pop up restaurant. For several years now the lads at Dram & Smoke have appeared on a seasonal basis in various locations around the city providing some delicious Scottish inspired dishes. This winters menu is something pretty special: - welcome whisky cocktail in the form of a warm hot toddy - duck donut with irn bru chilli jam - Gin punch bowl - potted mushrooms and dunsyre blue cheese - lobster broth - roast rack of pork, chargrilled plums, black pudding, chestnuts and a BUCKET OF CRACKLING!!! - whisky bread 7 butter pudding So having come here as a 2 we were on a table of 10 so lots of new people to meet, fear not by the end of the night it was as if we were all old friends, contact details were exchanged and further nights out planned. The hot toddy on arrival was a welcomed thing, coming in from a cold wet night, naked grouse with honey and lemon. A tried and tested classic. Duck donut.....irn bru chilli jam. Genius. A proper savoury donut with a sugar coating filled with confit duck meat. The irn bru chilli jam carried the flavour of the famous Scottish soft drink with a really nice heat. Surprising and delicious way to start the meal. mushrooms and blue cheese, again a tried and tested match, with the lovely crisp bread it was an unremarkable but delicious course. Lobster broth, every day 10 large Scottish lobsters are sacrificed to make this delicious soup. Well sized as apart of a five course meal it was a joy to eat and served in an innovative way. The cream top really cut through it and yeah it was gooood. NOW, when the menu say rack of pork expectations as to what is going to be delivered are pretty high, they were surpassed. This giant piece of meat arrived at the table on a massive block with carving knife and fork. Alongside a plate of veg + black pudding and a BUCKET OF CRACKLING. I mean I know I keep typing this in capitals but it feels deserved because I mean crackling...by the bucket. This forever should now be the measuring unit for crackling. The meat was succulent and tasty, so well cooked. The veg lovely, the black pudding and plums and great match and the crackling just topped it all off. A large jug of good gravy also passed around made for a satisfying main course. Desert, the British classis that is bread & butter pudding, again does as a large table serving we then split between the table. It was plentiful, it was whiskyful it was delicious! On our table happened to be a whisky journalist who managed to secure the table each a rob roy and then a bottle of the lovely naked grouse which added to our erm merriment. If you manage to grab a ticket for this go and be happy! If you miss out make sure you don't next time! For £40 it is incredible value! I mena crazy good value!!
