My dad and I did a road trip and wanted to try shooting. I only shot a BB gun before. The clerk was very nice and patient as I asked a bunch of newbie questions. Showed us the the basics and was happy to help when one of the rounds was stuck. I have nothing to compare it to but the price seemed fair. I think we paid about $60/50? for the 2 of us, with a shared lane & gun rental, targets, and ear/eyes protection and 100 rounds. Would love to go back but that is a bit too far. read more

Decent pistol range even if the staff was more wary than friendly... My wife and I have recently gotten into guns, shooting and spending time together. We've only been to a few ranges back home, and this one is very nice to some of the ones we've been too, but the folks here were less than friendly. Prices were about what we are used to if not a tad cheaper, the facility is clean and there is plenty of stock if you're looking for a gun or accessories. What surprised me was their unwillingness to let us use our own targets. Again, back in our area of FL, we have no problem using our own. Here was another story. The actual range is somewhat small but clean and the staff comes in ever-so-often to wipe up the spent casings. There was a slight problem I noted with the placement of the A/C vents - when the air was running it caused our purchased-from-them target to literally flap in the wind. It was certainly irritating to say the least. This is probably a four-star facility, overall, but the customer service put me off a bit. read more

The staff here is very friendly and helpful. Seems like all the other reviews are spot on. Everyone couldn't have been more welcoming. The best thing they do is turn the light off on your lane when your time is up. The previous range that I went to (farther north of Pittsburgh) made you stand in line to check out so there were always extra overtime charged to you. This is my new home for shooting. read more

My mother and I went here after decided we needed to seize the day and try shooting a gun. We had talked about it forever, but have never gone. Well it was our first time, and it was awesome. The young man behind the counter gave us free pointers, told us the rules, and helped pick us out the proper guns. We had an absolute blast, literally. My boyfriend took me there this week and I have never been shooting. The guys who worked that day treated us with a ton of respect even though we were from out of town. I thought we were going to spend a ton of money since we were renting everything from the gun to eye wear but after an hour session and 200 rounds we didn't even break $50. I enrolled in and attended A & S's January 2013 NRA Basic Pistol course. I did so because I wanted to know more about gun safety and gun operation before I committed to buying a pistol. It was a very pleasant experience: the instructors were pleasant, dispelling fears and common myths about guns. I was very impressed with the focus on safety first, and how when we did proceed to the shooting range we started by practicing the safety procedures we'd learned. Political grandstanding was kept to a minimum, which was also nice. Wanting to give A & S more business, after the course was complete I wanted to buy a handgun from them -- except given the current political climate in Washington, DC, it seems like everyone is in the market for a gun. This isn't A & S's fault, really, but their stock of guns is pretty depleted at this point in time. And this *really* isn't A & S's fault, but PICS checks take forever these days. My only real complaint about this place is that it's an hour away from where I live. I've unfortunately had some very bad experiences at gun ranges closer to me (e.g. Anthony Arms), and I'm happy to report that in contrast, A & S is wonderful. I just wish it were closer so I could go more than once in a blue moon ... read more

I haven't been to this range in years. It's sort of a hike coming out from Pittsburgh but I loved this place. I started coming to this range when I was barely 18 with a few of my friends. I'm not sure what they even offer anymore...but this is a great place to go (affordable, clean, safe, helpful, etc.). When I turned 21, I bought my very first handgun here: a Kel-Tec P11 which I still own and I love even more than the day I bought it. My brother also purchased a great Mossberg 500 shotgun here. It's a family owned and operated business with amazing staff. This is the place I learned a lot of firearm basics, so feel comfortable going here as a beginner! ***Edit*** Word on the street is that the original owners are selling the place...what a shame. read more

I love A&S. My boyfriend and his father taught me how to shoot here two years back and I have been frequently coming here since. I enjoy it because it's indoor so it's something you can do year round and you don't have to make an appointment to come here. Although if you go on the weekends there normally is a wait. They have numerous guns you can rent as well. It's a pistol range but you can shoot rifles here too. Also this is a clean facility which is a plus. Definitely worth checking out if your in the area and are into shooting. They also have a shop next to the range where you can purchase guns and accessories. read more

Very nice place and very friendly staff. I went on a tues afternoon and it was surprisingly busy, however I had no wait at all for a lane. The staff was as helpful as you wanted them to be, but not pushy, and they did not seem to rush you or get annoyed if your gun knowledge didn't exceed Rambo's. The range fee and rental prices were very fair, and while you do have to use their ammo (which I'm guessing is legal or insurance thing), they don't try to gouge you. People just accept that a bottle of water at Disney world is gonna be 6 dollars, but then get pissed when a business charges a nominal percentage over normal for the their ammo. The right price is what the customer will pay, but the guys don't try to screw you with ammo prices. You can't have some jackass coming in with a reloaded 9mm shell pushing a billion grains, it becomes a liability. I rented more than a few guns, for a reasonable price, and I couldn't be more pleased. As far as things to improve, umm this is more of a wishlist but I would love for them to have a .50ae, and .500 s and w, and more suppressors to rent. None of those are exactly cheap or would probably be big sellers, but a guy can dream. read more

My boyfriend and I took a private lesson from Bill at A&S this past weekend. It was tremendous. Bill was kind, courteous and incredibly patient. He emphasized safety and showed us the proper technique using a fake gun before taking us to the range. The other staff were very helpful as well. Overall it was a fantastic experience. I can't say enough good things about this place. I took the NRA Basic Pistol class here and had a great time. The instructor (Todd) was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and just good to work with. The class was excellent too. Great for a total novice and we got the chance to shoot several different guns. They take safety really really seriously as well. There's a horror story in the reviews for Anthony Arms that would never happen here. After the class I bought my first gun and that was a good experience too. They were helpful with picking one out, had several used guns as well, and I got all the accessories I needed (case, cleaning kit) but they didn't try and sell me a bunch of crap I don't need. Plus they give you an hour of range time when you buy a gun so I was able to walk right over and try it out after. read more

Today was my first time at a shooting range. I was there to try out the gun I had purchased. I called to make sure that it was ok if my family was there with me and could watch. They were very friendly and helpful. The place was very nice as well. Great rates too. I have used this range and store over a period of several years and I can only state they ae excellent. I am a difficult person to please and seldom give a 5 star review but, in this case, I would give 6 if possible. That being said they barely smile when I claim their targets are faulty (my eyes are no longer what they were and my hands are not as steady I guess I have overused that joke though. I moved to the Pittsburgh area about a year ago and In trying to find a decent range, I've decided to come to AS. In as far as the range I think the five stars it has is more than deserving. I've now shot there on four occasions (not very frequent since they're are over an hour away from my home) and the experience has been at worst decent. They have signs outside as well as inside that weapons need to be holstered in one way or another. One time I was there on a Saturday and it was packed (expect long wait times during weekends). As I sat waiting my turn I saw people coming and going with their weapons out. Now my issue with that was that one guy had just come out of the range area, stood about four feet from me, then as he was making an adjustment (remember this is en the waiting area) on his rifle, he ends up pointing his weapon right at me. So I'm not sure why the need for the "holstered weapon rule" if it's not to be enforced. Besides that the attitude behind the counter has always been friendly and informative when needed. Decent selection of range ammo for my needs. Now the store area left something to be desired. After my last visit to the range to break in a new gun, I stopped into the store to buy defensive rounds. As I walked in it was the counter guy talking to what I naturally assumed was a customer so I of course was waiting my turn. As I waited I was admiring the ar's on the wall when I finally realized that both men were just looking at me. Let me reiterate the guy behind the counter, there to wait on customers was just looking at me. I walked up asked which would be a better option as far as the rounds went, bought a box, and left. It seems that the guy that was there maybe was a friend of the counter guy and just chatting it up. Of course I have no real gripe with that, but I do take issue with being just looked at as if to wonder what I'm doing there. If you guys read your reviews I want to say I get it. You're in a small town, you know the locals, you want to chat it up. Great. Just remember that the range is bringing in people like myself who are willing to drive the extra distance to have a good experience. I'd suggest you guys in the store, or perhaps it was just that one dude, follow the great example set by the range guys. Three solid stars for the range.
