Came here on our last night in Lisbon to enjoy a few last caipirinhas with a view, and this place did not disappoint. We were served pretty much immediately after taking a look at the extensive bar menu and picking our poison. I went with the black caipirinha, my partner stuck to the traditional one. We walked around the back to access the upstairs patio which was relatively empty when we first got there, but filled up considerably as the night went on. You can see the top of the castle lit up at night from the rooftop patio as well as lots of the city, which is really a sight to see. Our drinks were strong and well made. Definitely stop by at some point during your trip to Lisbon!

This place was down the street and had no reviews, but it was raining and we took a chance. And yeah, glad we did - as we came in, it was a small place and empty. We were told they only had pizza - but what pizza! Ultimately, the music was a cool kind of local upbeat ska, the pizzas were the best I've have anywhere in the world in a while, and the beer was lovely. Highly recommend!!

There was about a hundred people inside singing along, and another hundred outside watching from the window. At one point the power went out and everyone just continued singing without skipping a beat. It was seriously one of my favorite nights in Portugal, and I'm pretty sure it was just a Tuesday.

The other weird thing about the Crow Bar, a rock bar in Cascais and not in Bairro Alto, is that it's customer base doesn't appear to be long-haired metalheads. We first went in the summer of 2016 and we were very happy to go back (quite a few times) in September, 2018. Bruno is a good bartender and very friendly (in his own way). His colleague, a very pretty, tattooed lady, was a bit shy but nice. Where else can you get a caneca and a bottle of Heineken for a total of only €4.50? I'll tell you where - the bar across from the train station in Tunes (Silves) down in the south of Portugal! But you won't hear any rock and roll there! We presumed Principe Real is Lisbon's mellower gayborhood. Embedded in an affluent residential area, this is where we headed after a full day in Belem. Despite some navigational challenges, this bar was our first stop. If you happen to gravitate toward the bulkier, more hirsute members of your brethren, this is the low-key bar for you. Initially we were confused by the smattering of straight couples hanging in the front patio, but when we entered, the gay element was much more prominent. Groups of gregarious men in tanktops were at the various hi-top tables. Lonelier bears hung out at the smallish counter. It wasn't that crowded even though it was a balmy night. We managed to secure a table for ourselves and had a couple of refreshing 8,5€ Expresso Martinis (Photo 7). No thumping music, more '90's dance pop. It was quite chill. The entrees were on the pricier side, which is something we didn't realize until the end of the trip - when we've had better food, better experience for a more feasible price. The entrees were smaller and less flavorful than we expected. Our bill was also a big one cause of drinks. An experience that I was hoping to capture was unexpectedly shut down. Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, the rooftop was closed to the public. Still an order of cocktails were placed with the attentive server. Shortly thereafter, the tequila based cocktail and a chocolate cocktail were brought to the table. Both drinks were good with two different flavor profiles. The chocolate cocktail with a subtle hint of coffee reminded me of a dessert which could be ideal as a digestif. It also came with a chocolate twig which made the drink a little extra fun. As for the other cocktail, well I'm sure you know how it goes with tequila :) Both drinks cost about $27 USD which was a wee bit more than I anticipated to spend. However, if you could enjoy the views from the rooftop while sipping away a cocktail or two, it will be worth it. Finding this place was also a little tricky. I had to ask the locals to help locate this place. If you're having trouble getting here, be sure to ask the locals.
