This is a really nice little restaurant sitting in Knowle on the Wells Road. It used to be Boccacina (run by the people who also own The Boca Bar) but it's changed hands, though things don't seem to have altered that much. But then again, why change a good thing? They still sell delicious thin crust pizzas and salads in a simple, intimate, candle lit (though slightly quiet) setting. It's also a BYO (with £1 corkage per head and there's a really big Wine Rack next door) seven days a week which is never a bad thing. I love seeing little places like this pop up along Wells Road, giving the area a more vibrant and up-and-coming feel. It's a cosy little bring-your-own (BYO) Italian-style cafe and pizzeria where you can take your own beer or wine for just £1 per head corkage, to enjoy over supper. I'd been meaning to try this place for ages when I first popped in and tried a take away from the deli-like counter - which had Mediterreanean mezze-style foods to choose from. The take-away carton I chose, made up of cold mixed salads and mezze, was wonderful, so we went back there one evening to eat-in and try the pizza. With the lights dimmed and the candles lit, it was very sweet and homely - and the stonebaked Italian pizzas are wonderful (12" or 14"), with mozzarella sourced from Naples (the home of pizza!). I tried the 'C Minor' (Calzone vegetarian folded pizza) and not only was it lovely but it almost felt healthy to eat, too. The food is so good and reasonably priced, with a BYO policy, there's really no excuse not to come back here - and as a small, independent local business I'm keen to support it. read more

On this particular stretch of Well's road there isn't much in terms of a daytime restbite stop, Acapella and Greys probabley serve as the best two options for a guaranteed good food and service. As I am sure you have gathered from the previous two reviews the Pizza's have a very good reputation, and yes, I can also confirm... the Pizza's are awesome! I do, however, much prefer to pop in here for a simple coffee and some pastries of some sort, a little 30 minute stop to collect my thoughts. read more

The sign outside says 'the best breakfast in town 'and I agree with them . A very well presented English breakfast made using locally sourced ingredients which in my opinion is always much tastier . The price was reasonable £7.20 including a tea . The staff are very chatty and the place is also renowned for its pizza so I think I'll made a trip south of the river one evening to give it a go read more

This place is sensational. Tucked away on Wells Road, its light is definitely being hid under a proverbial bushel. I can't believe I'm the first person to review it! If you are a pizza lover, the pizzas served here are honestly amongst the finest I've ever tasted. Handmade and cooked to gourmet perfection, with a range of delicious toppings, you will be hard pushed to find pizza like this anywhere else. A friend and I visited Acappella for the first time last week, having heard about it from a mutual friend. As soon as we heard it was Bring Your Own (booze), we were sold. Armed with a bottle of wine each, we arrived to find a cosy little restaurant, beautifully decorated with brightly coloured paintings, and dimly lit by candles. Staff were warm and inviting, and the atmosphere was bright and chirpy. I opted for the Glissando, a vegetarian pizza topped with mozzarella, caramelised red onions, capers, spinach and sundried tomatoes, (£9.45) and never looked back - utterly divine. My friend had a Presto, which comprised of mozzarella, home made basil and rocket pesto, artichokes, black olives and red onion (£11.45)- she was also blown away. During the day, Accapella is a café, selling a variety of fair trade coffees and other beverages, not forgetting a mouth watering selection of cakes. So get on you're bike - quick! read more

I visited A cappella for the second time this week, after a really pleasant coffee visit there a few days ago. On my first visit I was so impressed that I gladly left a 50% tip, and as soon as I could I visited again. As is my habit, I placed my order by saying "Could I have xyz." It was served to me, and I then realised I'd like something else as well. I asked the waitress "could I have some ABC" as well." She indicated the item I'd asked for and said "You want some of that." "Yes", I replied, looking puzzled. And BAM, she knocks me over with a retort I would never have expected and that means I will never return to the place. She said "You're not one for saying please, are you!!?" No, I'm not. It's true that I don't tend to specifically say please when I order food. I don't feel the need to. But I say thank you, I'm courteous, grateful and polite - and I would never expect and have never had such a thing said to me by anyone serving or selling goods or services to the public. read more

I didn't really know this area too well but recently met a friend for dinner here. I'm quite a fan of pizzas, so my expectations are always high, but I wasn't disappointed - rustic style and tasty. More expensive than you're average pizzeria, but only by a smidge and it's worth the extra pound or so. Large portions, and a wide selection, and the best news - they deliver too! Most of the time I do find it hard to differentiate between pizzerias and the pizzas they have to offer. Unless they truly are terrible with limp soggy bases and thin unimaginative toppings (sort of pizzas you get from a supermarket). What makes A Cappella stand out from the crowd is it's bring your own policy. This is the added special ingredient or the extra topping that I'm looking for when choosing where to eat out. Mostly because I'm a cheapskate. Another plus point A Cappella has in its favour is its atmosphere. I love A Capella. It has some of the tastiest pizza in town, the salads are great as is the garlic bread, everything is so good I end up overordering, however the friendly staff will happily wrap left overs for you to bring home. As well as the great food, it has a really cosy atmoshphere, it feels more like a cafe than a restaurant, it has paintings by local artists on the walls and fairy lights twinkling in the window invite you in. I've never had to book (weekday evenings) though it does get quite busy. A Cappella is bring your own booze joint, which means you can get a tasty bottle of wine without paying 5 times the supermarket price. There is a shop a couple of doors up where you can buy booze from if its an impromtu visit to A Cappella. read more

In my opinion this is a great little traditional Italian restaurant which serves authentic Italian food, and their pizzas are brilliant! The prices are also affordable, making it a good place to pop to lunch or dinner with a friend - but the atmosphere is also great for family meals alike, and can kind of suit any party! The seating area isn't particularly large, and you might want to book at weekends to make sure you get a seat because it can get fairly busy! Also, definitely give their desserts a go if you have room - I have eaten here twice and had their crumble and orange cinnamon cake, both literally amazing! Fantastic food. The pizzas are what I think are the best in Bristol! The coffee and openining hours (closed Sunday and Monday) are unfortunately what lets the place down and the amount of screaming kids that fill the small space. Food is good, but be aware at least a third of the seating is close enough to the door to have you subjected to an icy blast every time someone comes in or out when it is cold. The fact that there is a sign on the door urging patrons to close the door is a sign that the proprietors know it is an issue - but clearly they don't care enough to fit a door closer. Given that at least half of eating out is about the experience I have to say this was a let down. read more

It is easy to walk or drive past this and think 'hmmmm looks nice' but not go in. Well, you should try it. Very tasty Fry up with the best ingredients and a nice variety of drinks. Great style to the place and the people are very friendly. Great Pizza aswell, as you never know with some places whether the pizza is just something not done right, NOT IN THIS CASE, its very tasty. To me there is something about where you eat and what is around you that adds to the feeling of great flavour and this is one of those places for me. read more

A cappella is owned by Paul and Jennifer (husband-and-wife). This charming cafe is located in Totterdown and definitely worth to visit. The pleasant surrounding, local art displays, relaxed atmosphere, good music and friendly staff create an enjoyable meeting place. You'll find here locally roasted coffee that goes perfectly with one of the delicious cakes. In case you're a bit more peckish there's also really good homecooked food. In the evenings (from 5pm) you can chill out in a very tempting-romantic atmosphere (candles and dim lights definitely work the magic). Try tapas or one of the handmade gourmet pizzas and you won't be disappointed. It's good to book a table in the evenings because A cappella fills up quite quickly. Brilliant place that goes this extra mile to deliver high standard quality. Quality food is reasonably priced and available whenever and wherever you need it. Try their local delivery service. Menu is available online with some more organic goodies. If you need some milk, eggs or butter don't worry they can deliver even that! There's also disabled access and Wi-Fi available. A cappella is worth seeking out so just give it a try and enjoy! read more
