After watching many businesses fail due to a lack of customers or being forced to close for extended periods of time, I want to support local businesses now more than ever. That being said, I came across The Total Look Salon in Presque Isle. I am working locally for a few months and needed to get in to freshen up my look a bit. Specifically, root touch-up and a trim. Anticipating not being able to get in for weeks, I was pleasantly surprised to hear they had a cancellation, enabling me to go in the same afternoon. My stylist was Myka, and sweet as could be. Having my fair share of horror stories when it comes to my hair, I am always a little nervous when going to someone new. She quickly set my mind at ease, as it was evident she knew her way around her craft. The shampoo and conditioner are not to be missed, as it was the most thorough and exhilarating scalp massage I can recall. It was wonderful. I am seriously considering scheduling weekly appointments just to have my hair washed and my scalp massaged. Myka trimmed my hair just enough without leaving me looking like I'd cut my own hair. The final touch was a beautiful braid as it was an incredibly windy afternoon. The environment of the salon was like a made for tv movie combined with Cheers. The ladies and other stylists were chatting together and even offered to help me find other services since I was new in town. They made sure I didn't leave without having the information I needed. It's been a long time since I have experienced that laid-back, comfortable feeling at a salon. Thank you, Myka. You matched my color perfectly.

It's fantastic to see her rocking her own business, and managing to stay afloat even through COVID restrictions. When I saw Lindsay recently, it had been close to a year since my last trim (thanks, COVID). She made it a thoroughly enjoyable experience, still taking the time to do a full head massage while washing my hair, and then applying a hot, steaming towel to set in the conditioning treatment - I've never had that done before! I was extremely happy with my haircut - she chopped off exactly 6" in exactly the way I asked, and made me feel like a glam queen. I can always count on Lindsay to aptly decipher my hair needs and give me precisely what I hope for going in. I didn't even have to show her a photo of a similar hairstyle - she just knew. She's super flexible with booking appointments, even getting you in sooner if something opens up. I hear from Lindsay that she's very busy these days, and I can understand why! The salon is very conveniently located in central downtown on Queen Street, upstairs away from the bustle of the sidewalk below. Everyone is masked up, the bathroom is the first thing you see when you walk in the door and hand sanitizer is also right inside. There are a nice selection of unique products as well, including locally made beard oils, etc. but never any pressure to purchase anything extra.
