The selection of beer and food is limited, bit what they do well they do very well. The Gueze will be served almost warm, but that is the way this was intended. If you want a similar beer that is not as sour go with the Faro. read more

Feels like a very classic, old-school Belgian experience. No music, bar looks and feels like it's out of 1954. Really long beer list of course. Apertifs but no liquor. I'm sure it's very touristy in general but on a Sunday in March there was plenty of room. read more

I'm usually not a beer person but man. Mort Subite, you have me on my knees. Belgium, thus far has granted me the best beer of my life. (Let's see how Ireland's like) I've tried peach, cherry and raspberry. Peach is definitely my favorite. I love the atmosphere here. I came for drinks after dinner and it was really nice. The interior feels grand. Servers are relatively quick. They don't have much patience for you so if you haven't decided yet, let them know cause they don't like to wait on you. Just a stroll away from Galeries Royales St-Hubert, the Lambic White Beer Morte Subite is everything that Shock Top wishes it could be. Fantastic beer and a pretty good sampling of charcuterie. read more

Nothing special despite it's history and classic vibe. Service was so slow, we never even got around to ordering a second round of drinks or even asking if there were dice available to play 4-2-1 as seen on Three Sheets. Even though it's filled with tourists, it remains a classic (unlike most of downtown Brussels). I thought it was a great place to grab a beer, since it extrudes an old-school, untouched feel right when you walk in. Their beer is tasty, but I can't vouch for the food. read more

Not pretty, great beers, ok niblets. The Scandic Hotel is within crawling distance, so if you stay there, it's safe to go to this place and get sloshed on powerful Trappiste beers. read more

It is a real tourist trap and drink is expensive but I still think it's worth a visit even just for one beer. I don't know how the waiters know whats going years of experience in suppose. Great place to get a feel for the life of the city. Good beers in a traditional atmosphere. The name means 'Sudden Death' in English and refers to a game the patrons used to play, not the quality of the food. Still, we can't imagine eating here. read more

This place is known for it's Gueze (spontaneously fermented beer) which is a bit sour and served room temperature. It's not for everyone. Their lambics are also popular. I think this place is very popular with the locals so it can get busy at Happy Hour time. Good place to stop for one drink while on a beer trail or for a breather during sightseeing. read more

Classic bar in Brussles and a perfect place to have my first ever Belgium Gueuze beer. I didn't think I would like it but it was perfectly sour if that's even possible. We stopped here per the recommendation from our tour guide. It's a traditional Belgian beer hall and we loved it. The wait staff does not speak a ton of English, but it kind of makes it more fun. It was filled with Belgians enjoying their night. The atmosphere was cozy. The prices were a touch expensive but sonsidering the size and percentage of the beer we thought it was reasonable! I showed up at 11am local time. It was hard to tell if anyone was working or interested in my business. This was my first stop on a visit to Belgium,... and I'll admit it has been several years since my last non-North American travel. If you're not used to the crappy service and feel, then ratings can be harsh. Unfortunately pathetic service is the norm around here. That aside.. if you're a beer hunter like me and like simple traditional food, then you're in business! The listings are great and extensive. Incredibly unfriendly waiters. We went in, had a look at the menu, and in the few minutes we were there were treated in such an unpleasant manner by multiple staff members, that we decided we did not want to stay at such a place. Having not visited Brussels since the early 80's, I was very gratified that Brasserie Vossen (a la Mort Subite) was essentially unchanged in a city that has been significantly developed. On a wet December evening, the clients were locals on their way back from shopping or visiting the Christmas market, students (huddled next to the stove as we did back in the day) and a single tourist couple. Great holiday beer selection which paired nicely with a simple omlette. At some point I imagine the brasserie will become too old and decrepit and need some restoration, but until then, a pretty authentic slice of of Belgian life read more

Service is such an integral part of an experience that I cannot separate it wholly from a review. I can say that this review is based on service, beer, and price. Nothing else. The prices were a bit high compared to what you can get elsewhere in Brussels. The house brew was underwhelming. The selection was unimpressive. The service was terrible. We waited 20 minutes at our table (the place was mostly empty) watching the waitress clean tables and scowl at us from afar. When my brother went to ask her when we might be able to order, stating politely and in french that we had been waiting for quite some time now, she snapped back "NO. IMPOSSIBLE." It took her another 5 or 10 minutes to come out to us. The table next to us experienced the same thing, and we commiserated. Perhaps the food is good, but I wouldn't know. Brussels has plenty of spots with good beer. Skip this one if you want to avoid being treated like scum. read more

It's cool. But not that cool. I dunno. Mort Subite is a cool room. Tall ceilings, mirrors, nouveau vibe and all. Certainly gives you that Brussels bar vibe your looking for. But something is missing. It just doesn't really have energy. Still, it's a hell of a lot cooler than 99.9% of bars on the planet so I'm certainly not saying forget it. In fact, I'd recommend stopping in for a couple brews, although there selection is poor for Brussels. We did have a ham sandwich here and it was pretty blah. I know it's just a ham sandwich but, if you've ever been to Paris you know what a revelation a ham sandwich--even from a street vendor--can be and, considering how remarkably other places in this town elevate humble food to ambrosia, it's worth mentioning. So, enjoy the atmosphere so you can stay you went there, for a beer or two. Move on to a cooler atmosphere, better beer and better food. read more

The best bar in the touristic area of Brussels. if you like sour Lambic beers, this is the place to go. They even have their own brand sold all over Belgium. The bar is famous for it's history and if you are not interested in the history, but rather the experience of the place maybe then it's not the best place. read more
