We went and checked out San Paolo and relaxed, when we went back she had out table waiting. Right off the bat the service was impeccable. This was honestly one of the best meals we had in the city, I don't even want to sugar coat it, some reviews tell you some places are good and you go and you're always like what the hell were they thinking. So we were starving yep, tummies rumbling, hangry, ready to destroy. And I am telling you this food not only hit the spot but the flavours and care put into it was perfect. First we had a caprasse salad, I could knock the fact they only used grape tomatoes, and that the basil wasn't taken off the branches but then I would be nit picking, the cheese was so soft and fresh it blew my little mind. Next I had the Al la tolle pizza and I am not use to truffle oil, but it was delicious and again the Buffalo cheese was so soft and flavourful, the crust was thin and perfectly cooked, it was complex and yet heavenly. My girlfriend had some kind of black spaghetti with some fish in it, I tried a couple bites and it was equally as good. The squid ink pasta is good but not great. For who doesn't like pasta cooked the true Italian style (it would taste like it's not totally cooked thru) then this place offers a more neutral balance. A Le Tole was love at first sight. The restaurant really stands out from the typical Italian trattoria. It is modern, trendy and has a very stylish thing going on. Food was fantastic! I had a delicious Tre archi babypizza after years of a pizzafree diet and I have to admit it was worth every bite. However, I do bealive their specialty is pasta which not only tastes like heaven but is also beautifully presented. I recommend trying the Maltagliate con guancia di vitello e verdure croccanti, but really, you can´t make a wrong choice here. SERVICE: This almost cost them a star. Luckily the food was too good and I had to keep my rating at a solid 4. The service was not bad, but compared to other places and how nice Italians generally are, I gotta say there is some room for improvement on this front. Also there was no running water on the toilets, which is a very bummer in a city of so many tourists. However my biggest complaint is the bloody COPERTO, which is basically a per-person cover charge that most restaurants in Venice charge. LOCATION: Although it is very close to the very touristic San Marco area, you can find this amazing place hidden in one of the many narrow streets around the area. The restaurant itself is a constrast to the normal old, narrow, pinturesque streets and lanes. Probably the best meal I had in Venice, and a good way to spend our last night in Europe. My family and I wandered in at around 6:50pm without reservations and luckily the waiter still provided us a table. We were able to beat the 7pm dinner rush that soon followed, and had our meals delivered to us quickly. I ordered the fettuccine with duck and the duck ended up being very tender. One portion was definitely way too big for one person and we all ended up with leftovers to take home. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. I've been one of those misinformed Yelpers when traveling abroad and reading reviews on A Le Tole. I admit that I am a noodle connoisseur and I absolutely love noodles. Just reading about A Le Tole's fresh noodles made me salivate all over my cellphone. However, when it came to my experience at the restaurant, I couldn't help but annotate all the things that went wrong: 1. My boyfriend and I came on Sunday evening at 9:00pm to hopefully get a table without reservations. The chef/ owner kindly informed us that they were booked that evening, and that we could come back the next evening. We made reservations to ensure we had a table. Because we were starving, we found Osteria Ai Do Archi, next door, which gave us fantastic service and food. 2. Monday evening comes, and I'm super excited to finally try A Le Tole. We were led into the back of the restaurant where we had our table reserved for us. (Side note: It appears that people who made reservations that night had tables in the back of the restaurant. That means, you could not see any kitchen action at all. In my opinion, the reservation seating was like the worst table in the house. You're sitting next the bathroom and behind a wall that completely obliterates your view from the live performance and from the restaurant.) 3. Service was awful. It took us forever to get menus, then I had to wave down a few waiters to actually order dinner. Meanwhile this is all going on, the restaurant's credit card system wasn't working at all. Servers were running around as if their hair was on fire. Basically, we all had to pay in cash for our meals. 4. The final verdict was obviously my food. The waitress enthusiastically recommended the black spaghetti with seafood. Meanwhile, my boyfriend ordered the fungi pizza. We both got our dinner at different times - which sucked. While he tried his pizza first, he admitted that it was really soggy compared to all the pizzas he's been having in Italy. I tried a bite, and I agreed. Then comes my spaghetti, and the first bite was so uncomfortable. You know when you chew pasta and you know it is still so hard? I just kept on eating because I was so embarrassed that I hyped up this restaurant to my boyfriend, but the food was so bad. I told him to take a bite - he just ended up spitting it out and said "I'm not eating that. I'm going to get a stomach ache because the food isn't even cooked." After he made that comment, I completely stopped eating it, too. 5. Trying to pay for the bill was almost close to impossible. Again, I waved at the waiters like a crazy person to signal and mouth the word, "conto!" One of them finally brought a little box out so we can put our cash in. We did, and we waited... waited... and waited... forever for them to take the box and give us change. Because we waited for so long, we decided to give them the exact change instead and leave. We only had so much time left in Venice that night, and I did not want to spend it waiting for these inept servers to get back to me. 6. On my way out, I felt this sudden need to tell the waiters about my terrible experience. I kindly said something along the lines that my pasta wasn't good at all. The noodles were really hard, and quite inedible. To my shock, one of them defended the noodles saying that it was always prepared that way! I said that it was not normal to eat pasta that hard. He continued to defend these godforsaken noodles, meanwhile I stood there embarrassed, tongue-tied (because I can't speak Italian), and just nodded my head... and walked away. 7. I would have walked away not writing this review but it wouldn't serve any justice to future patrons (future noodle lovers). I do have to admit that my review is very negative due to all the circumstances regarding our experience before, during, and after the restaurant. Nevertheless, I do think people should still give this restaurant a try by AVOIDING eating the black spaghetti and pizza. Stopped in for a late lunch during a day trip to Venice. Not sure if we were supposed to seat ourselves, we waited by the door for quite some time (even though the staff clearly saw us there). A gentleman came by with a smile and a hello, and seated us with a very friendly manner. We were left to peruse the menu for a good while. When a young man came over to take our drink order (a bottle of water (naturale) and a beer) we were ready to place our meal order as well. We both decided on pizza and they were brought out quickly, hot from the oven. The pizzas here are quite large, and come without being cut into slices. The sauce is thick and seasoned. There was lots of good cheese on top and the crust thin. I like pizza crust a bit more 'well done', but in my limited experience with pizza in Italy, it was perfectly cooked! The inside of this restaurant is very nice, bright and simply decorated. It was not very busy at the time we arrived and plenty of wait staff were on hand. Someone stopped by once to see if we needed anything, and there was usually someone around we could flag down. We ordered a second beer and a different one than the original order was delivered to the table. So note to self, be specific when ordering a second. The rest rooms are to the back, behind a pocket door. Once inside the door, women on the right, men on the left with a shared sink between. This would be a nice place for both a small group or a table for two. They have beer and wine, pasta and pizza and desserts. Amazing pizza and fresh pasta! The place is packed with guest as we arrive for our dinner reservation Friday night. After we were given our menus, the table next to us gets their food, and my boyfriend take a quick look at the plate served to our neighbors and decided to have what he's having, the lobster spaghetti. I went for the ravioli dish, because ravioli has never disappointed me in the past. The pasta is cooked to perfection! It actually tastes so good that we want to try the pizza as well. So for dessert, we shared a pizza with mozzarella, smoked ricotta and bacon. The staff might think that pizza is a normal dessert in Norway! We were so full after our meals that there was no room for a more traditional dessert this evening. Our first night in Venice we made a quick decision to eat at the closest restaurant that had a decent menu. We regret our decision and were nervous for dinner on our second because of the quality and price from the first night did not sit well with us. On our second day we passed by 6342 pizzeria which had a window from the street of their very clean kitchen. The chefs were making homemade spaghetti which caught our attention. As we looked at the menu the prices seemed extremely fair for Venice and the menu had a great selection of pizza and homemade spaghetti. Since it was only lunch time we told ourselves we would be back for dinner. At 10h30 we finally found the restaurant once again and walked in the door. The dinning room was full of what seemed to be very happy clients. As I asked the gentleman at the reception area for a table for two he responded with it will be 30-40 minutes before a table would be available. I said no problem we do not mind to wait! As we waited outside reviewing the menu and watching the chefs our excitement was escalating. The gentleman that checked us in noticed that we decided to wait out the 30-40 minutes and poured us a glass of sparkling Burt wine! How awesome! Once we sat down we ordered a bottle of the sparkling wine (Classer Spumante Brut) the black spaghetti with scallops and red chicory and the schiacciata 6342 pizza (bufala cheese, tomatoes, rocket salad and raw ham) and waited for our meal to arrive. The black spaghetti was delicious and exceeded our expectations! The schiacciata 6342 pizza was unbelievably amazing! We followed our meal with tiramisu which was just as fantastic. The staff was helpful, friendly and you can tell the passion they put into this place. I look forward to coming back to this restaurant one our next trip to Venice. This was PACKED at lunchtime! The window watching gets you hooked. We happened to find this spot on our way to a pizzeria which was closed and we were lucky enough to get a table immediately when it looked like a full house. Saffron and shrimp with tagliatelle was so flavorful, you can taste the quality olive oil. We also ordered 2 pizzas, prosciutto & marinara, which arrived promptly which were charred underneath, thin, and hot. It's a modern setting with a combination of locals who visit and were seated immediately at their favorite tables. Their dishes came out like clockwork without even being offered a menu. I noticed the locals getting pastas with loads of seafood. Bathroom door in the back is kitchey cool. I would have rated them 5 stars, but the one woman who was there seemed very stressed out. She never cracked a smile and evoked a feeling of being understaffed. It was only two of them covering all the tables which was overwhelming. However, the male server who frequented our table was very friendly and attentive. Quick tips: 1. OK service but prompt 2. Quality on both pasta & pizza 3. House white was only .50 € more than the water and it was delicious. 4. Glassware is phenomenal - Murano water glasses & artisan local wine glasses. 5. We came based on Yelp reviews, and we were not disappointed! On a Saturday night, the restaurant was pretty packed and we managed to get in by making a last minute reservation. We sat near the front there was live music, a singer with an electric guitar playing lots of classic smooth rock love ballads...very romantic. We ordered a caprese salad, the cheese was out of this world smooth and fresh with nice basil and small and sweet cherry tomatoes very deep red in colour. We then ordered the al le tole pizza with smoked ricotta and buffalo salami and ham. The crust was super thin, tomato sauce was on the lighter side I think as to not overpower the other complex flavour and it was subtly finished with a truffle oil. Then we had the black ink spaghetti with scallops and white fish. It was very sharp in flavour, strong, bold but the AL denté pasta soaked up all that delicious flavour and rounded it off quite nicely. The pasta on display outside was what drew us in! We walked in and was glad they were able to accommodate us even though we didn't make reservations. I ordered a pizza with mushrooms, arugula and brie while my friend ordered a squid ink pasta. The pizza came out and i was instantly confused. One third of the pizza was folded up and I just didn't understand why. Like did they accidentally not cook it correctly? Anyway after i started eating that was when I realized that the pizza was folded because it held the brie and mushrooms! So essentially it was as if i got half a pizza with arugula and a calzone! I thought the pizza was good although it was super heavy and very large. I wouldn't have finished without the help of my friend. The pasta my friend got was somewhat intimidating. It was completely black in color and we both thought it was okay. I didn't really like the texture of the sauce since it was somewhat grainy. But it wasn't terrible. Definitely worth a try. I was surprised by the service though. One of the tables around us had shatter glass all around and under the table since a bottle of water broke. Guests were still ushered and asked to sit when the pieces of glass were still on the floor. It looked very dangerous and I felt should have been cleaned immediately. My wife ordered the pasta with lobster. One of my daughters order the pasta with duck. My other two daughters split a plate of macaroni with meat sauce. We got the chef's choice and black berry cheesecake for dessert. Waiters and waitress provided top notch service. Live music was outstanding. Eating in the little garden put this place over the top. A polite gentleman immediately seated me and was friendly throughout the entire meal. I ordered a cappuccino and glass of the house Cabernet Sauvignon. The red was on the dryer side, and I've had better wine in Venice, but both were adequate. The bread was average, but ask for some olive oil to give it some flavor. The balsamic that accompanied was tasty and light. Debating between two dishes, I asked the waiter for his recommendation. "If you like the frutti di mare (fruit of the sea), I think this one is better". Wow wow wow, was he right. The "Maccheroncini alla moda 6342 style" was easily the best pasta that I've had in Venice. The house pasta tasted like it'd been made seconds before. It was slightly softer than Al Dente and perfectly chewy. The sauce was absolutely incredible. It was peppery, salty, and savory, filled with flavorful Italian herbs. I'd say it was literally "the bomb", as it exploded with flavor in my mouth (let's keep things PG y'all). If I could cook this sauce I would never leave home again. The portion size was enormous, with plenty of pasta and an ocean's worth of clams and mussels. Make sure to save some of the bread to sop up the rest of that wonderful sauce. Overall, this is a place to come if delicious pasta is your priority. I rate places based on their type, so I would not compare a pizzeria to a Michelin 3 star. So this place easily earns FIVE stars as a pizza and pasta place. It is clean, the service excellent and the food could easily justify twice what they charge. After a long day in a very crowded Venice walking by awful looking "tourist" food stands, this place was a breath of fresh air. We had a reservation (suggested) and we were at once. The host took our drink orders and made sure we were comfortable. We started with a couple pizzas to share, then each ordered a pasta. The pizza is thin crust, the way I like it. The sauce was tasty, the cheese and the toppings high quality. Not too much of anything, balanced perfect and cooked crispy on the bottom, but still chewy. All of their pastas are house made and fresh, no dried pasta. The macaroni (not elbow tubes) were great, only to be outdone by the gnoochi, which were among the best I've had. The house made sauces were all good, especially the cheese sauce, somehow it had a roasted quality to it. While it's a bit out of the way, it's worth the short walk and out of the way location. She says it was so good she'll be talking about it and craving it for years. I ordered the pizza with bacon, onions, and peppers. I had to let it sit to firm up because it came fresh out of the oven. We ordered a bottle of moscato on recommendation from our great waiter, who spoke perfect English. We like sweet wines and this was a great suggestion. It's more like 3.5 stars. The place was packed by the time we stopped by after 8:30 and were asked to come back in about 15 minutes. It's very long and narrow with max seating optimization. For example, to get to the restroom, you may need to cross a hall way that's about the width of a person that servers may occupy to present into to the customers. They have a singer at the front who also plays music instrument while he sings in Italian and English. It's very soothing and wonderful to listen to. I would say this and the monkfish were the highlight of the restaurant. Since the place is packed, I didn't expect to have fast or prompt service and enjoyed our time selecting our meal. We ended up being stingy and forgone the water charge of 3.50 Euro, which was the highest fee for water I've seen in Italy so far. We got the ink pasta with seafood, and the monkfish wrapped in bacon. The monkfish and bacon were such a delicious combo and with excellent presentation too! I wish the portions are larger tho. We opted for the chef's choice for dessert and it ended up being an assortment of little different portions of cakes. It was good but not too memorable. The ambiance was really nice too. It's casual and yet almost romantic chic. The servers were nice and considerate. Oh the bathroom is roomy too and very modern. I think the entire place has this modern feel to it that seems out of sync with the rest of the buildings near by. I think it's a good place to stop for something casual and relaxing. It's an experience to have live music playing and singing in the background. But the price is a little steep for a $$ as I've already been to several others at a better price point and with more flavorful food. read more

Absolutely outstanding pizza and pasta! A bit further from the main tourist drag but worth the walk

It's been 4 months since we were in Italy and I am still having sticky wet fantasies about this place. We happened to be staying around the corner so we stumbled in after a long flight hoping they would have something gluten free. We accidentally discovered the single best gluten free pizza in the universe. I had to ask twice to make sure it was GF. It was the best pizza I have had in my entire life. Not only was the crust so reminiscent of the wheat filled pizza of my dreams, but the toppings were super fresh and the sauce was perfection. We went back 3 more times. We even went back when we were staying all the way across the water on the Lido. My husband doesn't have a gluten allergy so he got to try their delicious homemade pastas. We both agreed it was the best Italian food we have ever had. No matter where you're staying in Venice, this is worth the trek across town. read more

We came here without a reservation at a time when it was already busy. Seeing the number of people, we didn't expect to be seated for a while. But the workers were extremely accommodating and shifted the tables around to somehow fit 5 of us in an already tight restaurant! I had meant to order spaghetti with marinara sauce, but in Italy, ordering this means Spaghetti Carbonara. When the Spaghetti Carbonara came out, I was confused, but it became one of the best mistakes I've ever made because this dish was absolutely amazing! I traveled to other places in Italy and tried to find a Spaghetti Carbonara that matched up to this restaurant, but couldn't find one. I truly wish I had been able to come here again before we had left so that I could order the Carbonara one more time. The people I was eating with ordered a Calzone, which they were raving about! But if I find myself in Venice again, I will be making it my mission to come back again! read more
