We literally just arrived in Souris PEI ready to enjoy some laid back time on the beach. While we were stopped in traffic, my car made a funny noise and lights that nobody ever wants to see on their dashboard, lit up. We happened to be right in front of carquest Auto parts so I hopped out and approached the owner of the place, Brody, and asked if he knew any mechanics in the area. The guy jumped in his car and drove down the road to see if his guy was around. A few minutes later he returned and told me the mechanic was gone for the day but he made another call while I had my head under the hood trying to figure out where the noise was coming from. He got another guy on the phone and got me directions to his shop which was a 3 minute drive away and I was off. The mechanic saw that the water pump had failed. This is the same water pump that I had installed 2 weeks prior as a precaution because I knew we'd be taking a long trip and I didn't want to risk the original one breaking on me. Good news, he knew what the problem was. Bad news, I'd have no car for a day, on vacation, and we haven't even unloaded our stuff. The mechanic Darrell had to call Brody for the new part and I asked him if he knew any car rental places locally and he said I was out of luck because we were in the boonies, and yes, Souris PEI is the boonies. My heart sank because we were maybe 7 miles from our Airbnb rental. I had two kids, a wife, lots of luggage and no options. Then, in a moment that will go down in history in the Sam H family, Brody told me that he had an extra delivery car lying around and I could hold onto it until my car was fixed. He literally saved the day. He swung by shortly and took me to get the loaner. His kindness salvaged the first day of our visit in PEI and we will be forever grateful.
