Awful communication, very, very slow and vague response...although great field techs (reason for the second star). They may be great at helping you if you're locked out, but if you need anything else, I'd use a different company. I've been trying to replace our lockset for the door of our condo since July. Called this company and they sent someone out to look. The tech said it's an interconnected lockset so they needed to check if they had to order it. A week goes by - no communication on if they had it, so I contacted them. They said they were checking their stock (for a week). Another 10 days go by and nothing from them, so I contact them again. They say they need to order it and it'll be about 6 weeks. So over 2 weeks of no communication...and seems no action on their part. September 2 they finally come to install the lockset. The manufacturer sent the wrong parts so could not install. They tell me they'll check to see when they can get what we need. So that same day I sent a detailed message with what we needed and we need to just get this done...since I had no idea if the office knew what was going on and/or if they were doing anything. No response until 8 days later..."We are expecting to get the parts next week and will contact you as soon as we get the parts." Over two months wasted and had to chase these guys to get ANY information from them. I ended up ordering the parts needed myself and have a different company (which is responsive) lined up to install. read more

I had a problem with my rental car this weekend, even though was holding the key in my hand, it wouldn't open. I called a couple numbers from search on my phone, but they sounded like call centers. I remembered Yelp, and found A-Max. They have great reviews, and look like they can handle brand new 2021 rental cars. I talked to Bill, he was very patient, had me try a couple of things, they didn't work, so he sent out some help. Very pleasurable experience throughout with A-MAX. Bill was great for ease of scheduling and their pricing was upfront and clear for what I was asking for. I was looking to rekey my entire house and add some deadbolts so it was a larger residential job. I felt like I laid out what I wanted pretty clearly, and Bill was able to give me an accurate ballpark of the total instead of just quoting rates, which was great. Matt came out (on time) and had a great attitude. A true professional. Matt was extremely helpful and make you feel at ease with understanding what and why he's doing the things he's done. Has lots of handy gigs and techniques for making sure the job comes out perfect. He even corrected a few things that we wrong on the existing hardware. Was able to install the hardware that I had purchased previously at the hardware store. They also have some inventory on the truck (which we had to use because I missed counting a deadbolt in my basement), but there is a markup for the convenience. Part of this cost is that these are a grade higher than you can find in a hardware store, so your getting a superior product, but it may not be what you "need" for your situation, just a heads up. Overall the job went really smoothly. The extra tasks that I found I needed done were added onto my list easily, without a separate trip out. They were reflected on the final bill, and laid out clearly as to how these extra requests impacted the quote. read more

Look elsewhere. I went to get keys programed for my vehicle. The locksmith ran into issues as my battery was weak. He put a charger on the vehicle, then preceded to help four customers before getting back to my vehicle. What should of taken an hour max ended up taking more than two hours. Now the locksmith was the only one in the shop but he should of readdressed my vehicle after helping a couple of customers not all four. After buying a house and finding out the previous owners not only lost their mailbox key and only used a keypad to get into the house, we scheduled A-MAX to replace the mailbox lock and re-key all the doors. Went to these guys this afternoon to get a key for the toolbox that came with my used truck. They pulled the key from the code on the lock, tested the key, and found the latching mechanism had been knocked out of whack at some point, not allowing the box to lock - so one of the guys spent 15min in the freezing cold fixing the latch so the lock would work, and wouldn't charge me. Very helpful with free advice. I've gotten several new cylinders here and they re-keyed them with matching keys. The parking lot is uber small, but the retail space is clean and well done. I have used AMAX and Bill for a few years now. Bill and his crew do a great job, show up, on time and are always helpful. They have done anything from opening a locked car door to reprogramming ECMs and keys. They really do it all, but one interaction with them put them at the top. It was a cold clear winter morning. We may have had hopes to reaching 60 degrees if it were not for that darn wind. It was a winter day that leaves you in hopes for summer, but we know that rain will come back. Bill was here to reprogram an ECM for me, but lo and behold the car was taken on a drive, making Bill wait 30 minutes for the car to return. I don't know about all you yelp heads out there, but I like to be paid for my time, but Bill understood mistakes happened. This is my second review since all I had done last trip was a proper key made after the job was botched at Bi Mart, I have come to the conclusion that there are a lot of jobs anyone can do.... if you don't mind if it's done wrong. And making a key that doesn't work is not a good deal even if it is 30% less. So this time I went in to have spare keys made for my other car AND to replace the remote control key fob. They have a huge selection in stock and can order many others. But in this case, Bill spent a lot of time trying to fix mine (I guess kind of an odd one which was not in stock). Long story short, he tried to save me money by repairing instead of replacing, but the internal circuit board was fried and unrepairable. But again I gotta give them 5 stars for the effort. Two days ago we were locked out. We just got back from Asia and it had been a long trip and my two boys (9 and 6 years old) have not slept in more than 24 hours and were really exhausted. Not enough good things to say about a max security. I spoke with Bill and he is very knowledgeable about cars keys and all other types of security. I had no concerns about him working on my car keys. I called around to roughly 10 different locations and all of them wanted me to buy a key in order to cut it or program it. I already owned a blank key for my car and they were able to cut it for $36.00. All of the other locations wanted between $100-$160. The dealership wanted $350 for a key and immobilizer chip programming. A-Max would have done it for $45 however Audi has disabled the ability for outside companies to program the immobilizer chips. All in all I am quite pleased with their speed and quality of work and would recommend them to anyone. read more

They may be okay for small, residential services but they are not adequate for business purposes. They were supposed to provide a quote for several locks, keys, etc. for a business (work would be thousands ) -- we had to ask them twice for the information after 2+ weeks of waiting...they didn't bother to call back or explain...just dropped the ball. They are clearly in over their heads in handling professional work -- avoid them, not worth the trouble. Also, Paul is snarky and Bill doesn't bother to call back....Matt is not too bad. read more

My front door jammed and wouldn't open/close anymore. I'm not helpless, so I worked on it to no avail. I even sat on hold with Kwikset who guided me as to what to do. Kwikset honored their warranty and sent me replacement parts, but nothing worked. Once Kwikset was satisfied that there was a genuine need for a locksmith, they extended the warranty to pay up to $100 of the smith bill. I looked for a locksmith. Using www.nextdoor.com, I saw that my neighbors consistently loved A-Max. I called and got service the very same day, no rush fee. Even luckier, Shane came out and did an amazing job. It took him all but 30 seconds to get the door unjammed, and another 3 minutes to install the new door handle. While there, Shane checked the remaining doors in the house for issues. Aside from this, he made my quirky dog comfortable, a feat in and of itself. Here's hoping you never need a locksmith, but if you do, Shane works quickly and smart! read more

Moved into a new house and called these guys to schedule a time to have the locks replaced. They had me e-mail them pictures of the locks to expedite the quoting process. I went in to have a basic duplicate of my Honda key made. They noticed that my current key (which was a duplicate made by the dealer) was not cut exactly right, and took the time to "measure" my locks to ensure that their duplicate was a perfect fit. This took a little bit longer (about 15 minutes), but I know I left with a superior key, and they didn't charge me any extra for their extra time. This business is an average locksmith that charges a lot of money for basic service. The first level of "customer service" they offer is a 65 dollar "we don't care if you are 4 blocks away" charge, to simply drive over to your house. That's during normal business hours. Imagine if your local pizza delivery charged that? Once here they supplied and keyed a lock that once installed had a loose turning mechanism. The customer "friendly" dynamo they have manning the front desk told me to bring it in. I thought, you sold me this thing, I'd like you to stand behind the product you sold me. Apparently their appreciation for your business makes that impossible for two weeks. If you want expensive, disinterested service. Then by all means help yourself. read more
