I have been taking lessons with Davin for almost a year and a half. Davin is a talented and…read moreinspiring teacher who will help you grow and learn about who you are as a singer. He has a professional demeanor and a friendly ability to clearly communicate with each student on an individual level. He celebrates the strengths and achievements in your process, speaks to habits, and helps break down those walls that we so often put up (I know I do). After every lesson I step out feeling freer, happier, and more confident. There is a great difference in who I am now vocally and who I was when I walked into my first lesson with him over a year ago. Also...Missy is new to Davin Youngs Voice and she is fantastic as well! I have taken a lesson with her and she is personable and professional. She's also crazy-talented and understands why we do what we do and how to enhance our singing technique. She is a great addition!

I've been working with Davin for over a year. As an actor who has also attended an arts…read moreconservatory and has taken singing lessons over the years, he's one of the best vocal teachers I've worked with. Seeking to improve my talents as a vocalist, I've also taken group as well as private lessons at Old Town School of Music. I personally find private lessons to be of much more use than group lessons as it affords much more time to address the technical concerns(bad habits, posture, etc.) that are holding me back. A satisfying one on one dynamic with a private vocal coach can be much more difficult to find. I've had teachers where the lessons don't seem like they're building on anything; the "arc" of the lessons seems disconnected. As a private teacher, Davin is the best I've worked with. What I like about him is that he will keep on me about my bad habits and he's not afraid to be direct with his criticism(another peeve I have about some private coaches is that they are afraid to lose you as a client so they tend to sugarcoat things). Anyhoo, I heartily recommend him as a teacher. I joked with him once that as a starving artist, I have a budget: Rice, Beans and Singing Lessons. And it's true. Finding your voice as a singer is one of the most satisfying and amazing things you can do and with his help, I'm well on my way. Thanks, dude!

Somehow took me several years to get here to write a review; didn't even think he was on Yelp…read more Robert has been teaching me how to use my voice as an instrument. How to care for and train it, and how to play it. I went from shower singing to singing in public, performing in public within a year and my confidence and my ability grew along with my repertoire. He is a past master at analysis of strengths and weaknesses, reenforcing the former and transforming the latter. Whether you want to sing in public, need help in finding your voice in business meetings or just want to have fun, Robert is for you, the thinking person's singing teacher.

I have never sang in my…read moreentire life (well not in anyway that i thought sounded like singing)- and he has been incredibly confident, kind, and unbelievably knowledgeable in helping me understand where my blocks are (self confidence, sigh) and teaching me that - actually- I CAN sing. My singing lessons thus far have been 1 part knowledge about how the voice works, 1 part practicing technique (and we are starting at the step 1 that is for sure), and 1 part therapy. I am genuinely in awe watching and listening to him do his job. I feel very lucky that I found him as my voice teacher (incredibly enough he was the only voice teacher i found on yelp that actually called me back- it seems it was meant to be). What is particularly cool is that he records all our sessions and then sends them that week for me to practice with over the following weeks and months. Also he makes pretty incredible (albeit interesting) suggestions on how to move through certain blocks (ie go to a shooting range to open my root chakra - which i am fully planning on doing - even as i HATE guns). he just has the knowledge and experience it takes to really make this possible for me- which is really exciting. i couldn't recommend a voice teacher more.
