My mother was placed here for rehabilitation but the staff gave up on her pretty quickly, seemingly intent to let her lay in bed in a soiled diaper all day instead of encouraging physical therapy so she could go home. The head of physical therapy was adamant in giving up on her, doctors orders went unheeded by staff, and staff made excuse after excuse to deny providing a shower. No one should have to sit in soiled diapers to the point they develop rashes and blisters. No one should be allowed to develop urinary tract infections because they are left dirty. No should should be given up on. If you're looking for rehabilitation, stay away from Katzman Family Living.

The first place I called was the visiting nurses assisted living and within days, they had a beautiful apartment ready for her to move in right from the hospital. This was a hard move for her since she was fiercely independent and self-sufficient all her life. The VNA staff bent over backwards to make her feel at home and got her involved in the exercise programs and even had a physical therapist come in to help her get her confidence and strength back. She was doing great until the bombshell hit.....she had terminal liver cancer. True to form though, she was determined to take control and handle it HER way! She did not want treatment. She wanted to live her final days (which turned into months!) with the same grace and dignity she lived her life. I cannot say enough about how wonderful, kind and thoughtful each and every staff member was. They even brought in a sleeper couch at their expense so that my brother and I could take turns staying over, and they made sure we knew what to expect as she passed away peacefully. Aunt Marie was like a second mom to me and I will be eternally grateful to the VNA for taking such good care of her.

Zelma Lacey House still does not accept his entire Mass Health benefit as payment for his rent. They still say that he needs to be in a special room for that. They still have not put him in that room (and the idea that he would need to move for that is unfair anyway). So they are still charging full rent minus a discount for getting his full Mass Health benefit, and asking his family to cover the very substantial difference. Shameful. The reason this is two stars instead of zero is that he's still happy there. He likes the staff, the residents, the food and the activities, and I have no complaints about the care he gets, only about the financial situation.

When they finally admitted that they would not take her back-- mainly because, I think, they found someone else who wanted her space--- they told me I had to pay to have her belongings removed. I went there to do it in person and they refused to even help me carry trash to the dumpster. It's a lovely looking facility but the staff is heartless. Find another place if you can.

We have worked with Always here since early 2020 to assist my 101 yr old mum. She gets around well for her age, she has become quite forgetful and needs more and more assistance. While he initially came across as caring, I got the same vibe that I have gotten while car shopping: - "we have a low income program that would work well for your aunt, but I only have 1 bed left at that rate. You can sign up today with no obligation" - "if she can't afford the program, there are other assistance programs, such as PACE, that can make up the difference between the cost of our program and her SS income"......TAKES OUT HIS PHONE, STARTS CALCULATOR, ASKS ABOUT HER INCOME...says "she definitely qualifies for our low income program, VLIT. You can apply for PACE, but in the interim, she will have to arrange for private payment of the difference". - he gave us the phone number of the local PACE Administrator. When we called, we were told that Atria does not participate in PACE. So, what was Adam talking about ? Well, when I called to tell him that we were told that Atria didn't take PACE, he said "oh, I was just trying to help you find a place that does take PACE. I"m sorry if you misunderstood", yet both my fiancee and I came away with the exact understanding (that they could sign her aunt up for 'VLIT', and that whatever her SS income didn't cover would have to be "private pay" until she got on PACE"). While the facility itself was nice, the sales process was less than transparent or honest, in my opinion.
