I took my wedding dress here to have it hemmed and sleeves added on. I thought it would be a safe choice considering this place has been here a long time. How WRONG I was.
I supplied a shawl that came with the dress that she said was plenty of material to make the sleeves out of. When I got the call that the dress was ready I tried it on and the sleeves were to tight and nowhere near the same length. Upon the second try they were about the same length but way to short coming above my wrists. Finally the last time I tried it on the sleeves were a bit to long and I noticed the fabric felt thicker than before, however I was tired after work and I was ready for this to be done after driving here several times so I dismissed it thinking "I'm just tired" not to mention the lighting in the main room is deceiving, so I did not notice that the sleeves were also now a different color. A couple of days later I pulled the dress out and took a better and more careful look at it. Indeed the sleeves were now white instead of light ivory like the dress. Also the sleeves were a different type of fabric. Not to mention on one of the sleeves there was a blemish. To make it even worse the sleeves were not even sewn on all the way! There were several big holes! To top it all off the dress still had the pink marking dye on the bottom where it was hemmed. The stitching was so poor I could have done a way better job myself (and I am a true amateur).
I decided to call her to let her know I was displeased and disappointed. When she answered I kindly started to tell her of the issues at hand one by one letting her plead her case. She said "I don't know how the fabric could be thicker, huh that's interesting, I don't know" then when I mentioned it also was not the same color or material as the dress and the shawl I supplied, not to mention I informed her that one of the original sleeves made from the shawl was still in the bag with my dress (she unintentionally left it in there thinking she threw them away I'm sure) she backpedaled and scrambled. Finally, after she was done lying to me she confessed that she had messed up and ran out of the shawl so she had to use something different.... first she stated that she went to 2 different fabric stores, then it changed to 3 different fabric stores and that was the closest she could find. None of that I believe. I think she just pulled out some scraps she had left over and figured it was close enough. She offered to take the sleeves off but I didn't want to chance it and have her do more damage. I told her I wanted a full refund which I did receive (of course I had to drive all the way back in there to pick up my check). Luckily my mother was able to take the sleeves off. When I mentioned the pink dye on the bottom of the dress she acted surprised and stated that she thought she had gotten it all off but maybe missed a spot or two... spot or two? It did not appear that she made any attempt to remove the marking dye. She told me it comes off with water. (I was aware of that but that wasn't the point) So all in all it was a terrible experience I want to save others from making the same mistake I did.
