I loved this place! They had a lot of wines by the glass at only $7.50 a piece. Follow that by homemade delicious pizza crust piled with fresh ingredients and I am in heaven! The other really nice thing was that everyone working there seemed happy to be doing their job. This is rare these days. In addition,they have gluten free options! Personal pizza to vegetable and rice noodles to give options for once to those avoiding wheat. I even saw a beautiful fish plate piled on grilled veggies for those watching the carbs. Out geocaching with bestie & bestie jr when hunger pains started setting in. We found this spot as it was close to our last geocache and closer still to Trader Joe's. We were seated quickly enough but the tables are set up so that some tables have chairs set so your back is directly in front of someone else's chair sideways. So, the diner sitting behind me stared at my back the entire time they were there. I just found this the most awkward of arrangements I've ever seen in a restaurant. I ordered a water & baked ziti with meatballs. When my lunch arrived I thought the meatballs looked dry but after tasting them, while they did look dry on the outside, they were moist and tasted delicious. The rest of the entree was a disappointment. I didn't feel as though there was enough sauce on the ziti, it tasted overcooked and the layers of cheese on top had baked too long. So long it was hard to break off and enjoy in one bite - ziti, meatball and cheese all in one taste. The toasted bread needed more butter as it was just dry toast to me. I had plenty of leftovers and tried to pawn them off on my husband for dinner. While he did eat it all he also made mention that even after heating it up in the microwave, the cheese was still hard to eat. Our server either had too many tables or just doesn't believe in refilling water. I had hopes that if my glass only had ice in it she would take that as a hint to refill it. It was not to be and I had to hunt down a drink soon as we left the restaurant. All in all, this isn't a place I would return to. Walked right in on a busy Friday afternoon and were sat immediately, which was great because we were starved! Our waitress was friendly and attentive and our food and drinks came out quickly. The menu had soooo many yummy sounding items that it was hard to make a choice but after seeing another patrons pizza came out, I knew I had to have a pizza. I'm a simple girl who loves a good cheese pizza so that's what I chose for my son and I. The cheese was gooey and the sauce was so flavorful it didn't require any additional seasonings. I thoroughly enjoyed the crust with its charcoaled bubbles, even though it was a little hard to tear for my son. He ended up eating most of his pizza which says a lot for a picky 8 year old lol. I only dropped 1 star because one of the bathrooms wasn't working due to a clog and I felt like since there are only 2 bathrooms in total that would have been a priority for management/staff. This was enough to split - which we did. It's served split from the kitchen. THANK YOU! Pastas were prepared as you would expect, gooey cheese, slightly sweet sauce, just-right pasta. Meatball and sausage were excellent - simmered for quite a while until tender and flavorful. The only disappointment was that there's no cannoli on the menu. My go-to dessert when eating Italian. So I came here to meet someone and well, that went nowhere. But I still tried to enjoy the restaurant. On MLK Day, it was very crowded, we actually had to wait 10 minutes to get our table. The open kitchen setting is pretty unique, you don't see many of those anymore. I ordered the Mediterranean Market salad with ham, salami, feta cheese, and pepperoncini on spinach, greens, salad veggies and green goddess dressing. Now I've always though GG dressing was...green, because of the abundance of fresh herbs. This one was more of a creamy dressing, it looked a little bit like ranch. So I got some Italian dressing and combined the two, so it became more of a creamy Italian. Very good and rather filling, but maybe a little bread on the side would have been a good addition. Food here was great. I had their lasagna with a side salad and both were great. Only knock I have is that while the lasagna had a great flavor when I got it the dish it was severed in was extremely hot but the middle of the lasagna was not so much. This is the reason for the 4 star instead of 5. The service and the overall interior of the restaurant were great. The exterior of the building needs some maintenance but I get it they aren't responsible for the building as it's in a strip mall still building. read more

We live in Tennessee but every time we visit family in Greenville we have dinner at a Tavola. The relaxed, welcoming environment, friendly staff and delicious food never disappoint. Three of us had an early dinner at 5pm on a Friday and were immediately seated in the main dining area, however seating is available in the bar area. Our server was friendly and attentive. When taking our order, she started out by asking if we had questions regarding the menu or if we had any dietary or allergy restrictions. We started out with wine, followed by our delicious meals and an amazing dessert. The environment at a Tavola is nice thanks to the smiling staff, upbeat music and colorful art displayed on the wall. On the dining side, there are two gender neutral/family restrooms. Thankful for another visit to Greenville and another lovely visit to a Tavola. read more

Always trying out new places to eat. This is one that I would return to. Hunter, my server, was awesome. He really made me feel like I was one of his regulars. I asked for a cup of the chicken and corn chowder and it was delicious. Full of chunks of chicken and roasted whole kernel corn. For the main course I had the Chesapeake chicken and shrimp. It was a little heavy on the celery seed for my taste but overall wonderful flavor. As always, I ordered more than I could eat so I will be enjoying this food for lunch tomorrow. So glad I got here when I did because the place was almost full by the time I finished eating. read more

I really tried to work this out with the restaurant, but given a lack of response, I am posting this in the hopes that the owner of Atavola or someone who knows the owner will see this and that they will speak with their employees about customer service. I will preface this post by saying that I love Atavola, it has been one of my favorite restaurants in town since I moved here 7 years ago and I have never had a bad meal there. I have eaten there dozens of times, had birthday celebrations there, taken family and friends there, etc. And I had never had a bad experience until this past week when I invited one of my friends to go there because she had never been, only to have the worst customer experience I have had at a restaurant here in Greenville. We got there at 6pm because we both work 80 hr weeks and wanted to eat early and go home. We were seated, the waitress takes our order, and then we wait for over 30 minutes, at which point the waitress comes over and states that she forgot to put in our order because she had taken her medications late. She proceeds to put in the order and then someone who I was informed was the manager brought our food. I had originally asked for no cheese on my wrap, and when it was delivered with cheese, I pointed this out to her. She stated that there was no cheese, and I pointed it out to her (was she assuming I was lying or stupid?) She proceeded to take the plate and walked away. I eventually received my meal and it was fantastic food. But then we proceeded to wait for another 15 minutes before anyone came over. The manager comes and my friend asks for a to-go order to bring back to her husband. This was acknowledged, and then we proceeded to continue waiting. And we waited for another 15 minutes until our original waitress came over, knew nothing about the to-go order (I am guessing the manager and the waitress didnt communicate about it), went to talk to the manager about it, and then we were told it would only take 10 minutes. 20 minutes later the order arrives and we are given the checks. My friend asked the manager what had happened tonight, to which the manager replied with a significant attitude, "what do you mean?" My friend replied that we had been here almost 45 minutes before our food came out and then throughout the time at the restaurant, our food was either incorrect or forgotten. The manager stated "well I don't think its been 45 minutes," at which time I stated that it was now 7:30pm and we had gotten there at 6pm. The manager then again responds with hostility "what, do you want me to take half-off your bill?" to which my friend replied, "well it would be helpful but also its a little bit concerning that no one offered to help or provide an apology." The manager proceeds to take the checks and returns them. We pay and ask our original waitress if there is another manager we could talk to about this, and she states no. As we are leaving we stopped to speak to another waitress about the situation, and after explaining to her what happened, she seemed surprised and stated we could speak to the owner. She goes off to find him and returns stating that the owner is drinking (alcohol) with his wife and "isnt here" (providing air quotes). She offers to take my number and assured me that he would call me the next day. She then goes on to defend the manager, stating that "she is one of my best friends and she just had a major surgery, and I am mad at her for even being here, but that could be why she is acting strangely." We did not respond to that comment and left. The next day I received no call, so the day after I call at 2:30pm and was told that the owner didn't get in until 3pm. I then called again at 4:30pm, and was told that the owner wasn't there. I asked where he was and was informed that he was "in and out" and that they really never knew when he would be there, but on the 3rd attempt at calling, the girl on the phone stated that he did have my number and that he would call me the next day. I again wait for a call, did not receive one, and this time I waited to call the restaurant until well after 3pm, at which time I was informed that he was not there and didn't take personal calls and stated it would be unlikely he would call me. When asked how I could get in touch with him, she replied with "your best bet is to come in." So now 5 days later I have received no call. And I am quite angry because I really just wanted to speak with him about how it is inappropriate to treat customers like that and also provide the feedback that sharing personal medical information and that of others to strangers should be discussed, as this could lead to a larger issue. However, at this point I am not even sure he knows to contact me. With the way that the waitresses/manager have handled things, I am very frustrated and though I would like to think the best in people, I also question whether they even gave him my information. If he has it, I hope things improve. read more

This restaurant used to be great. It has gone downhill. We had a waitress that's she stated has been working here 10 years. She started out nice and then serves us undercooked, partially raw and cold food. We explained to her what was wrong with the food and then she gets a very nasty attitude and starts being rude. She took the food away and had lots of excuses of why it was like that. She then brought us a replacement and it was just as bad and when we told her that she got even nastier. This is not our fault that they cannot cook food. We did not deserve this treatment and will not be going there anymore. We also will not be recommending this restaurant. read more

My go to for Italian in the area. Bartender is on point with good drinks that are not too strong or weak. Food is consistently good. My wife always gets the eggplant parm which is always excellent. Food .. I would not order the Red Banks Seafood bake again, there were not all the seafood in the dish as listed on the menu. The sauce had a thin consistency I did not enjoy.
