I felt like Goldilocks, one was just too big, too full of kids and not enough oversite; one was too small, and The Children in the Shoe in Olney... Well that one was just right. Within mins. of starting our tour, my sweet little girl was fast asleep in her carrier. We had found her home away from home. She began in the infant room and has been happy transitioning through her development phases. Now my daughter is in the 3's classroom and I am just as happy with the Shoe as I was during our tour. The teachers have been amazing, transparent, and loving. They communicate, are informative and best of all responsive. The directors to everyone who attends the front desk, each and every one of them are welcoming every single day, how is that humanly possible?! When you step inside, it's a small community. It is very common to find parents, teachers, children, and staff greeting each other, and having short quick conversations. During one of the many conversations that I had with my daughters 2's teachers, they mentioned that her speech was delayed. I loved that the teacher shared her concern and didn't hold it for a more formal parent / teacher conference. Since then, the teachers and staff have been extremely accommodating in welcoming her speech therapist into the classroom on a regular basis. It is home away from home! My little one has had her fair share of bumps and bruises, I know that with every bump, scrape and bruise she gets, she receives twice as many hugs and cuddles. At the end of day, during pick up the teachers make it a point to actually see the parents, talk to the parents and work daily to create a positive connection with the patents. If they are willing to do that after a day of teaching and loving their students - they must be super heroes. I know after a long at work, all I want to do is go home and relax.

I wanted to be a stay at home mom. Until I met Stephanie! she put me at ease from the get go and out with with all of my nerves from day one and with each classroom change until my daughter graduated. She was even there for me when my mother passed away. the shoe is a family that i am happy to be a part of and I hope it continues for years to come. I have two very happy well adjusted kids and their daycare plays a roll in that. Each teacher seems happy to be there and really loves each child and you can see that just by walking around. I wouldn't want my kids anywhere else. We love the shoe!

My son had some bad experiences at another daycare and it made him really scared to go to any daycare. On the first day he tried it out he didn't want to leave and it's been that way ever since. I have been with this daycare for 3 years and I'm very satisfied with my experience. The staff is wonderful, welcoming, understanding and very helpful. The director Danielle is amazing!! She's understanding and anything you have an issue with or anything you need you can talk to her. My son has many favorite teachers but Mrs. Adriana is the BEST! Shes an amazing teacher and care taker. This daycare also works with an app that allows the teachers to tell me how his day is going with pictures and I can see the schedule for the day. When my son was younger and still potty training I got updates when he used the potty as well! I also loved the safety they had. Every room has a camera so the director can see what's going on in each classroom. Both the door to enter the building and the door to go to the hallway to get to the kids have a code on it, double security so not anyone can just get in. You get a lovely tour of the place and on the holidays they do special crafts and parties. They do before school and after school care and pick up kids at school too. They also do class pictures and "school" portraits so you can purchase lovely photos of your child. Again I can not recommend this place enough! I would put that their district manager was great in finding a flexible rate for our unique shift work schedules. However a few things must be highlighted that were disturbing. Each child receives a box to put spare clothes, creams etc. I once picked up my child, with other kids dirty laundry in her box. When I asked the staff members whose it was, they responded to just leave it in the corner. They obviously changed the child to who the clothes belonged to. Yet they seemed to be very half hazard in their care of whose clothes, where it should go and overall positive control. Another incident occurred when I picked up my child and she smelled of cigarettes, albeit lightly. I in no way believe that someone was smoking with my child, but it was apparent that the staff member had a cigarette and when finished proceeded to hold my child, therefore causing the smell on her clothes. LASTLY AND MOST DISTURBING They use and application called "Precious Status" in which the faculty members update you child's naps, feedings, etc. We received five status updates of my child's routine one morning, yet our kid was NOT at school. The teachers select the child's name not the parents, so it is apparent that the staff member was repeatedly and deliberately choosing my child's name to update another baby. That lack of attention to detail in baby identification seems particularly disturbing .

All the teachers are amazing not just in instruction but they are truly kind and loving to the kids. The community of families that attend there become like family. The principal, Mr. Andy, is super personable and my kids love him. My older 3 still like to come visit their teachers at Epworth and are still top 3 on their favorite teacher list. Shout out to Mrs. Carroll, and Mrs. Shelley. This is our last year at Epworth as my last one is finishing up Trans K with Mrs. David. We will miss Epworth. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a place that cares not only about academic achievement but the child as a whole.
