A fun place for families. Food was delicious. My husband had the Steak & Fries I had the caramelized onion Burger, which I believe the cook brought right out to us. The fries were nice and hot. The steak was cooked perfectly my burger could have been cooked a bit longer to prevent so much of the meat juices from dripping. The waitstaff could be more inviting when you come into the restaurant. The first attempt to eat here the waitress apologized and said it would be a 40 minute wait as a trove of people arrived between 5 - 5:30 pm when we arrived. We told her we'd come back another time. Two days later we arrived around 4:30 ish, and the young lady from way behind the counter, without saying hello or welcome, pointed us to a table. Our assigned waitress was pleasant but we had to flag her down twice for more beverages, it wasn't really busy yet and three wait staff were talking amongst each other. In any case if you don't mind this type behavior this place will suit you, but if you're a large group it may be somewhat challenging to be waited on with a professional attitude. We stayed a week in lovely Brighton and the restaurant was across the street but we didn't bother trying this place for a third time.

Also, I was a little dubious about the mixed Yelp reviews it's had over the last few years. I thought I'd be a fairy Yelp mother for the night and celebrate Valentine's day with my husband at the same time. We were welcomed by friendly staff. A bit sad we were ushered to our seats sandwiched in between a big group and a loud couple. Nevermind, that didn't dampen our experience as I was really looking forward to some good food. I had a bottle of Peroni and Mark had a bottle of IPA. We both ordered steak and ribs with chips. I like my steak well done and Mark like his medium rare. Both came in good time. However, I soon found out my steak was still mooing and Mark's was well done so had to switch plates when he's already smothered the steak with damn pepper sauce! I dare not said anything and just scraped it off. I had garlic butter with my steak and it was really nice. The rack of ribs were delicious. The meal really busted my belly and I was left impressed. My husband's input is he was impressed with the speedy bill upon request. It's nice to finish off our drinks in our own time and not spending much time making eye contact with waiting staff for the bill. I'd come back on a special occassion definitely.

The first rack of ribs that we all ordered was alright, but as the racks progressed, the quality became worse. I'm not quite sure how this happened, because The Old Bank used to be quite a reputable establishment that offered high quality food and service. Now, I find myself never wanting to go back, which is a real shame.

My friends and I drank quite a bit of tea, and definitely ate pretty much all of the food. The building/ house is really pretty both on the outside and the inside. It's also cool because it is within Stanmer Park. It is fairly secluded, in a good way, but not too far from things at all. The best thing about this place is that it's so pretty and peaceful.

It's a quintessential English country house, built in a restrained classical style, and set in 5,000 acres of parkland - also landscaped in the classical English style. The House itself incorporated part of the house of the previous owners of the estate, the Michelborne family, who were connected with the manor (then called Audwick) as early as 1594. The new house was in the restrained Classical style so popular for English country houses, with little adornment. A later extension to the right wing has spoiled the symmetry somewhat, but the ensemble is still handsome enough. Although most of the contents were dispersed when the House was sold to the Council, the ground floor interiors of this Grade 1 listed building are reasonably well preserved and tastefully decorated, and worth a look - the main function rooms of the house are open to visitors for free when not in use. Among other things, they contain a midly diverting collection of old photographs, but most of the original contents have long since gone - however, the modern furnishings fit in well enough in a 'Country House Hotel' sort of way. The grounds are now owned by Brighton City Council as Stanmer Park (see separate entry), but the house has been retained as a conference and events venue, and specialises in special dinners, weddings and similar events. The venue is licensed for Civil Ceremonies. I have only visited the house as a tourist so can't comment first hand on service etc. or as a conference or event venue. But it has a good reputation locally, albeit at a price: wedding packages here start around £140 per guest (up to 140 with a marquee), but it'd be a pretty memorable!
